Ukrainian actress Natalia Doroshenko. Early 1900s. X
One of the biggest lies Russians feed to people in Luhansk, Donetsk, and Crimea is:
"Ukraine abandoned you. Ukrainians hate you. Ukrainians see you as separatists."
In 2014, they came without insignia, spread rumors that Ukrainian tanks were supposedly coming to "kill Russian-speaking people"(and other ugly rumors), then they looted, seized control, civilians were kidnapped and disappeared by Russians, and after all that Russians act like:
"Hmmβ¦ we're separatists and people call us separatistsβ¦ wait, what if we project that onto the local people and claim Ukrainians are calling THEM separatists instead? π€ Perfect!"
I sympathize with everyone who lives and fights with this information vacuum created by the Russians.

Ukrainian Cossack on a 1913 postcard. X
for @wanderer-on-the-steppe, @theophan-o
Thank you @dauntlesssentinelcipher! This postcard is amazing!
But also, fucking whiplash. Made it through the chapter, looked into the news...
Wow. Fucking. Lukyanivka, KSE, Zavertaylo and the Chornobyl Museum in one night. And that's just the places I have personal links to in my home city.
For fuck's sake.
This was the Chornobyl Museum, btw.
UPD: Okay, wow. Hinaus, Zhitniy market, the Shevchenko Literature Institute, the National Art Museum, the Kyiv Small Opera too, holy hell. I suppose our enemies think all of our thinking and military planning is done in cultural institutions. Motherfuckers.
(Also hm, I can see the tower at the museum's still standing, so this is an interesting angle for a shot, I think? Or I am shit at recognizing my own city from above; that's also an option.)
