The real Brahms:

Margaret Heelshire sat in the headmaster’s office at her son’s school. She was furious to hear that her perfect little Brahms was to be expelled from school for tormenting the other children and threatening teachers. She dragged Brahms through the halls tightening her grip as he tried to get away. At the car he calmly looked up at her , “They deserved it. They weren’t behaving.” “We don’t hurt others.” Margaret raised her hand and Brahms pulled furiously away as it flew back toward him.

Newspaper clipping:

At least one has been confirmed dead in the fire at the Heelshire mansion. A distraught Margaret Heelshire was pulled from the flames and firefighters continued to search for her 8-year-old son, Brahms. The Heelshire boy is believed to be dead, but remains are yet to be found. No other details have been released at this time.

After the fire:

Days after the fire a large crate arrived at the door. Inside was a porcelain doll, in the likeness of her precious boy Brahms. Margaret looked at it and felt that familiar tightness. Fear. She gingerly lifted the doll’s limp body out of the crate and sat back with him in her lap. She coaxed his head up onto her shoulder, the porcelain from the doll’s face was cool against hers.

Greta:

They had tried to hire nannies in the past to care for Brahms. The Brahms that came after the fire. Half a dozen at least had come and gone. Some didn’t take it seriously, others were frightened and left claiming there was something off about the house, about him. It didn’t matter. None were acceptable to Brahms. Greta was the first, and he chose her.

The rules:

If Greta was to be safe she needed to understand what taking care of Brahms meant. What it required. Mr. and Mrs. Heelshire sat and carefully crafted a list for her. No Guests. Play Music Loud. Read A Bedtime Story. Never Leave Brahms Alone. There was much more to keeping safe in this house, but she would find that out soon.

The real story:

The Boy is a frightening thrill ride directed by William Brent Bell (The Devil Inside) starring Lauren Cohan (“The Walking Dead”).
