i totally agree with patricia taxxon's post about how having eclectic taste is the most important thing for making good music. and i would like to add that all of the true visionary musicians i know all have at least one record that is almost universally considered to be garbage that they will ride or die for

i dont mean like "oh nickelback is good actually" i mean like. late-career album by some band that alienated all their old fans and gained them zero new ones.
