i love love potions ONLY IF used as a horror concept or with negative connotations
because the idea of such a concoction is horrific.
creating such a thing to feed someone else to entirely remove their autonomy and ability to consent just so they become "yours" or whatever the fuck
imagine being on the recieving end; the one drinking this love potion, being overflown with artificial feelings of "love" that doesnt feel right, but you cant do anything to stop it.
With a love potion, they have you wrapped around their finger. They can make you do so many things out of "love" for them- no matter how much you want to do it or how much you hate doing it or how much youd rather die than do it- no matter how much you actually like or HATE about that person-...
Love potions are terrifying. It ignores consent entirely. It's a prison in which only those emotionally strong enough can break. Only in this context is how I find them interesting.
(treating love potions as morally okay or even a good thing is really bad imo bc gang we cannot be so for real WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU THINK FORCING SOMEONE TO FALL IN LOVE WITH SOMEONE AGAINST THEIR WILL IS SUPPOSED TO BE A "GOOD THING" NO IT FUCKING ISN'T THATS VILE.)
And especially when it comes to feeding a love potion to an aromantic person, ESPECIALLY those who are repulsed by romance. Because youre just putting them in a living nightmare. You're forcing someone to feel something thats alien to them, a feeling they have no control over, a feeling they may even disgust them so much theyd rather die than experience it (depending on where on the aro spectrum they're on) and pretending it's okay. Worst part is that them arophobic folks are prolly gonna be like "oh you probably just found that person *wink wink nudge nudge smiley face*" when you ask for help, when you try to tell people you're under the effects of this love potion and need to find a way to be free of it. And the idea no one would believe you when you cry for help just makes this even more terrifying, because now you're all alone, suffering. (as i said, the love potion gives the creator so much control over the recipient its inhumane atp) One might even start to question if those people are right, if they have "found that person," and question their aromanticism thanks to the ARTIFICIAL LOVE from the fucking love potion. And if they succumb to that, they're trapped in this prison of lost autonomy forever. As I said, a living nightmare.
