Why did Leyla even keep allowing people to talk her into nights out? She didnât even like nights out. She liked bars in the afternoon when it was empty and she could drink in peace, not after nightfall when they were crowded with people. Still, after some vehement protest from her colleagues and more than a few jabs at her less than stellar social life, she had decided to agree.
Which was a mistake, as it turned out. Shocker. She was just on her way to the bathroom, passing by a strange woman holding something in her hand that Leyla was all too familiar with. Because this would not be Riverdale if she actually got one night off from all the drug drama and gang wars.
âNo, thank you. But Iâm afraid Iâll still have to ask you to come with me.â Reaching into her pocket, she pulled out her badge and flashed it for the other woman to see, as usual, acting strictly to protocol. âOfficer Munro, Riverdale P.D. You are under arrest for illegal possession of drugs. You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defense if you do not mention when questioned something which you later rely on in court. Anything you do say may be given in evidence.â Shoving the badge back into her pocket, her hand now rested on the zip-tie handcuffs in the other one, hoping she wouldnât need them. âDo you understand?â God, she hoped she understood. Making her arrest someone on her one night off was bad enough, the least she could do was play along.
Okay, so maybe in hindsight offering drugs to anyone around her wasnât one of Skylarâs best ideas. Those usually came when she was already under the influence of something, or so she thought. They came with the best stories, at least, no one could deny her that. She had just twirled the sticks between her fingers, about to shrug the other woman off when she went on her spiel.Â
âYou have to be fucking kidding me,â she muttered, leaning her head back against the wall as she shut her eyes for a moment. Not that this would mark the first time that Skylar would be in trouble with the law -- far from it. Her name would most likely bring up a long list of misdemeanors, ranging from underage drinking to possession of illegal substances, ones different than what she was holding in her hands at the moment. Letting out a deep breath she looked at the (slightly intimidating) woman across from her, tuning out the rambling she could probably recite herself at this point.
âYeah, sure, I understand. Are you sure youâre not just fucking with me?â It was a last minute plea, wishing she had her Serpents jacket to wear as her armor in that moment. This is what Skylar got for going without it, even if the reality was that it may have caused more trouble if she had been identified as part of the gang. She held out her hand palm up, offering the sticks to Officer...what did she say her name was again?
âCanât you just confiscate the drugs and let me go? Itâd make it way easier on both of us, you have to admit.â
