I caught a potential Freeze-Frame Bonus in âSatellite Mysteries/Secretos Satelitalesâ, one thatâs more subtle than the rest.
Goldheart naturally looks at the reporter during the interview, except for the very last frame before the TV fully shuts off.
When he looks directly at the camera.
Or, perhaps, directly at the one turning off the TV?
We donât know what Goldheartâs powers are yet; all we have to work from is Flugâs dream in âThe Dreadful Dawn/El Atroz Amanencerâ, which we canât take 100% literally because itâs a dream.
Flight and super strength are common in superhero stories, so Goldheart probably does have those, though I doubt heâs as strong as dream!Goldheartâs exaggerated physique suggests.
Goldheart might literally glow, or dream!Goldheartâs glowing may just be symbolic of how Flug feels âoutshinedâ by him. The simplified colors and generic pose make him look like a 2D paper cutout- perhaps Flug thinks Goldheartâs motivations for becoming a hero are âflatâ or âshallowâ. After all, the eyes are the windows to the soul, and dream!Goldheartâs eyes are blank.
A hero lights the way- to goodness, to order, to peace. But light thatâs too bright can be blinding. What can Flug see about Goldheart that others are blind to? What is this hero of light hiding?
Flug already knew Goldheart was planning something. What shocked him at the beginning of âThe Heedeous Heart/El CorazĂłn Cruelâ was that Cecilia was working with/for Goldheart.
Flugâs concern for her isnât just because they were friends; he knows Goldheartâs plan is bad news and is worried for her because sheâs gotten mixed up in it.
If the pile of hair and crumpled flower in Flugâs dream are anything to go by, heâs worried Goldheartâs plan to âend villainy foreverâ will kill not only his villainous friend coworker, but also his innocent son. He may worry Goldheart will target Cecilia too, even though she canât do any further harm from prison. But how will Goldheart do it?
Perhaps Goldheart has another power- something he can keep hidden because itâs not as obvious as flight or strength or glowing. Something that doesnât seem heroic, something that could put his angelic reputation into question if others found out about it.
(Look at this fucker. Two profile pictures with halo imagery? He couldnât be any more suspicious if he went around with a megaphone yelling âI AM GOOD AND PERFECT AND DEFINITELY NOT PLANNING ANYTHING UNDERHANDED. I AM A HERO. TRUST ME.â)
Light can also mean knowledge, information, revealing that which is secret. Goldheartâs hidden power is telepathy- he can look into someoneâs âheartâ and see their desire to help or harm, to be good or evil. And that he keeps it secret means he doesnât get permission from his targets before poking around their psyche for nasty thoughts and impulses.
This is a kidâs show so Goldheart wonât kill those he deems too evil (on purposeâŚ), but he might further refine Flugâs research into emotional manipulation to keep them perpetually docile, robbing them of their free will in a more subtle way than Cecilia did.
Perhaps due to their bond, heâs been able to slowly worm his way into Flugâs head over a distance. I wonder how angry Black Hat would be with Flug if he handed over the rest of his research just because Goldheart âasked nicelyââŚ
Goldheartâs plan is destined to fail, as he is severely missing the point. Good and evil arenât just desires, they are choices people make! A retail worker isnât a bad person if they want to jam a potato peeler in the eye of the 83rd irritating customer theyâve had to deal with today, theyâre only a bad person if they actually act on it. And just as bad desires donât necessarily make a bad person, good desires donât necessarily make a good person. Goldheartâs desire to end villainy is admirable, but doing it like this is not.
Hopefully the plan will fail because heâll realize the error of his ways and decide to stop, but itâs also possible heâll devote himself to the plan at the cost of his own wellbeing, overexerting his telepathy and permanently disabling it.
Ceciliaâs plan backfired on her too, after allâŚ
