Just watched the backrooms. Idk how to feel yet.
Don't get me wrong the cinematography was AMAZING. I LOVE the set, the audio design, the camera shots, the use of VHS and just the liminal feel. That's how it should be yknow? You're supposed to get that weird feel when watching.
Story wise ehhhhhhhhhhh I didn't really like.
The intro where they show the audios and stuff was good. You got that retro feel. And the worker running and documenting the stuff was SO COOOL. It was like watching the OG found footage on yt again. Absolute cinema. Fire start and I loveee the employees. (I mean ik they're only just people in a hazmat suit but im thinking of the games n stuff. Gives it that legit feel y'know?)
However after the 1st hour or 1st part (after the therapist lady gets kidnapped) and the "dinner" scene happens it was just so GROSS THERE WAS JO NEED FOR HIM TO JUST RIP THE DUDES STOMACH IG I GET IT BUT EWWWWWW THAF AINT MY DAWG
I was excited for the backrooms. I was happy to have the rest of the movie take place there. But I didn't want this dawg like wtf
(I forgot the mc's and therapist's name) I dont really get the theme or message they were trying to convey with the two. New paths and stuff? I mean ik it's emotional but I watched this with my parents and younger sister. Kinda hard to think of that when evil captain feathersword hits a Mike Tyson and bites off his og dude's shoulder
Also another thing I didn't like is how people hesitated looking backwhile RUNNING FOR THEIR LIFE. take therapist lady for example. When evil captain fs was chasing her she looked at the couches and was like nah at first. GIRL IF THAT WAS ME I WOULD BE SPEED CRAWLING OVER THOSE. WATCH ME BECOME A PARKOUR MASTER IN 2 SECONDS FLAT
Also when she like breaks her leg on a couch or smtg and crawls through the doggy door or whatever she somehow gets healed and stands up????? Then she takes her sweet time to go up the stairs. Ik it's high up but KEEP RUNNING YOU'RE SO SLOW DO YOU NOT VALUE YPUR LIFE CRAWL GIRL CRAWL.
Characters where kinda poopoo. Except for Bobby and Kat I actually liked those guys
Right after we walked out my parents said they're never trusting us again with movie picks. Brother I wanted to watch the TADC finale but didn't cuz I KNOW for a fact they would never trust me or my sister with ANY movie or show if we watched that.
Since they give us that weird dog backrooms example for the movie I'll give something similar to it to rate it.
It's like wanting a bowl of soup but the chef decided to add gourmet and rare ingredients that you've never tasted or heard of before. Sure it might taste or sound pretty good at first but it later (or soon) try it and has this weird flavor. You could have honestly done without it but you can't do anything since it's already made and now you're left looking at your bowl of soup feeling numb.
I got more things to say but I dont like typing that much.
