"Yes. Things have settled down as far as I am aware. I mean, 100% record in the qualifiers for the World Cup." He told him. Xander nodded. "Would be odd to say I didn't considering he is who brought me here, to Bayern." He told him. "Its more, when you get used to someone being around for almost 8 years. Technically 11 years for me when it comes England Under21s too. Someone who believed in me to make me captain. And then, thats it. Its taking some getting used to."
"Then I'd definitely say things have settled down, they seem to be going well." He wishes he could say the same, but they at least got their team together to do what was necessary in the end. Both of them were going to be there for the World Cup and maybe play one another. "Well, I'd say he believes in you since he did bring you here. He didn't like me, we have very differing experiences when it comes to that manager. The one good thing I will say he did for us was bringing you here."
"It certainly has." Xander replied. He did wonder if they would end up playing against each other. It could happen. They would just have to see how things went for their teams at the World Cup. Listening, he knew that not everyone had the same experiences with him. It was true he had brought Xander here. Right now, Xander was in two minds about him. The manager was doing well with England. Xander could see that. But the other part of his mind was missing their previous one and he had been close to him. He looked at him. "And I am glad that happened." He said. "I remember the talk that was going on back then."
There's a nod, a knowing one at the feeling of a manager and the struggles that can bring either being new or one that grows sour over time. He was all too aware. "Well, if things have settled down then that must be good, right? You like the new manager?" Jo asks genuinely, wanting to know how his friend and teammate was actually doing when not around them.
He listens, hands on his hips as he does and nodding along to show he was still listening and understanding. Maybe it wasn't something he could entirely relate to but he knew that the fans of Germany were angry with them at times but so was the team. They were angry at themselves too. No doubt it was a shared feeling all over the country. What he could relate to was the fact the atmosphere changed with a new manager. "Amazing what a new manager can do, huh? And then you stepping up as a captain like that, I'm not shocked you helped everything get back on track too."
"It is." Xander said. "I mean, now we have a different manager from that one...that was when the wobbles popped up." He told him. There was a look on his face. A look as if he was getting on with it, but still getting used to having a new face around when doing international duty. Even if it had been 18 months or so since it all changed.
Jo couldn't say what it was like on other teams, his experience was with Bayern and the German national team. Beyond that? It mainly came from stories from new transfers or whenever the players reunited for international duty. And he was lucky that he hadn't had too much of a problem with fellow teammates, coaches were another story but it was never his fault at least. "Ah...I see." Jo nods in understanding. "Glad to hear that's changed. Doesn't sound like much of a team if it had stayed separate like that."
"There used to be quite a disconnect between the team and the fans." Xander told him. "I guess you could say when I was first called up for England I kind of experienced that." He said. "But when the manager changed, things started to change for the better and thats how it has been in the years since then. I think there was a bit of a wobble this time last year when some players were dropping out from international duty and I said something about it. Seems to be back on track now though."

One could be a good commentor, making observations high above, but it was different when on the pitch. There was a reason they were out there playing the game they loved while others paid to see them. And Jo loved their fans, it was others who didn't appreciate what they did or belittled their effort that had his ire. But everyone had each other's backs, knew the hard work that went with it all. That was never a concern. Brows furrow at the other's words, though it wouldn't surprise him. Jo, however, was used to having a team that was close like that. "Really? When you weren't here, I imagine."
That is what he would have told people if they started explaining what they should do like they were the coach. He would tell them that there is already people here to do that and the fans don't have all the information when it comes to decisions. Xander noticed the look on his face when he said that. "I don't really mean when I have been in the teams I have been in." He said. "It is more...before I was in the England senior team. There was I guess you could say that there was always separate groups that would hang out and some who didn't want to be there. That has changed now. "
"Usually how it goes, yeah?" He chuckles with a small shake of his head. It was amazing how much people thought they knew more when all they did was watch them. They were fans, sometimes they knew what they were talking about but it was rare and unless they had experience in football at this level? Jo usually ignored them. Though it was also nice knowing the other had his back. Not that it surprised the blond, it was usually how teammates were for one another. "I appreciate that. It was never worry on my end that you didn't, bruder."
"Yeah, it usually is." Xander said. It did annoy him when people thought they knew better than him or any of his team mates. They may watch football but Xander and the others were the ones in the middle of it all. All the stuff behind the scenes that the fans didn't see. "I am glad to hear that." He said. Xander thought for a moment. "There probably was a time when some players thought others didn't." He added, thinking about how his national team had changed over the years.
"right, so you're just moping for no reason?" sofia had left something in her locker at training the day prior and needed to come in for it on her day off. finding xander alone on the pitch wasn't something she had expected to find while she was there. she would have felt bad leaving without checking on him though. "you don't have to tell me. i'll leave if you like, but i'm happy to listen or try and problem solve. whatever it is that you need." she waited expectantly for him to invite her to sit or dismiss her.
REPLY to @skipperxander / xander kane *
Xander raised an eyebrow. "I am not moping." He said. Or at least he didn't think he was. To be fair, he was the only one there. Everyone else had headed home but he had stayed behind to train a bit longer. It is how he always had been practicing his penalties. Then he had got thinking about things and ended up sitting here where Sofia found him. Xander sighed and tapped the space beside him for her to sit down. "Its just...international things."
“I’m just trying to help you.” (from sofia)
Xander was sat at the side of the pitch. He was bothered about a few things. Not so much here, more when it came to the international camp. He looked up as he heard Sofia and sighed. "I don't need any help." He told her, acting like everything was fine.
He's heard it over and over, how he was small or playing in the wrong position. Everyone suddenly becoming a trainer, thinking they knew better than those who actually trained him. All he could do was ignore and he knew the other had similar experiences. "No they could, but everyone has an opinion and everyone thinks their's is right." He shrugs. "And that's what matters. I know you have my back and I have your's."
Xander nodded as he listened to what Joshua said. "Yes, they always think they are right and that they can never be wrong." He laughed. "I have heard that plenty of times." He said. Xander smiled at him. "I am glad to hear that and yes, you will always have mine and I will always have yours." He added. Xander glanced around at where they were before looking back at him.

“I know your work is important, but you’re going to end up in hospital if you go on like this!” from Illya to a football player (a spy going undercover as a phys trainer perhaps?) via @menacesfromuncle
Xander looked up at him as he heard what he was saying. "This is my career. I have to make sure I am fit enough to play." He told him. "What makes you think that I am going to end up in hospital?" Xander asked. He didn't think he was pushing himself that hard for that to happen.

[ … / / L . G ] he always brought so much comfort to her. and it was insane how important he had became in her life in just a year. she looked up at him and smiled softly. ❝ you don't get nervous the night before a game ? ❞ the winger asked, tilting her head. maybe he was different in that aspect compared to her. and if so, she envied him a bit for it.
Xander sat down by her and looked at her as she asked him this. "Funnily enough, its not the night before the game. Its just before a game." He told her. "But I just get those nerves and fully focus on what I need to do." Xander said. "So I get nervous but just before the game rather than the night before."
@skipperxander sent : ❛ can’t sleep? ❜ for Lena from Xander
[ … / / L . G ] another sleepless night and she couldn't help but sit outside on the balcony of her apartment , hot cup of tea in hand and wrapped up in a blanket. just enjoying the night air when he emerged from her bedroom. lena instantly smiled. a whole year. and she still felt so many butterflies when it came to the men's team shining star. ❝ something like that. I think it's just nerves. ❞
Xander had woken up and she wasn't there. He was a bit confused for a moment but then got out of the bed and had made his way to the door. When he opened the door, he noticed her sitting outside on the balcony. Xander couldn't help but smile back at her as the smile appeared on her face. He ran a hand through his hair before making his way out to where she was. "Why are you nervous?" He asked.
"Exactly." Jo nods. It was always better to have teammates to back one's self up when the media tried to tear them down. Something he wished he had more of in the past but he was getting it now, better late than never he supposed. "Oh I know, they don't even know what they're talking about and nothing but perfection is the best for them." But he was glad to hear the other understood what to do, what they wanted in the end for their 'work'. "Good, that is all you can do. Real fans know how valuable you are."
Xander wondered if in the past he would have had people to back him up on teams he had been in. Tottenham he had and also here. And with England. Even more so since he became the captain. But when he was starting out, people didn't really know him. They didn't really know what he was like when playing. At one point, people would saying he would be a one season wonder. He proved them wrong. "Exactly. But it isn't like they could do a better job." Xander said. "They do."
Jo wasn't surprised to hear the other speak up on that, another chuckle leaving him as arms crossed over his chest. "I can do that, I'd be happy to. I know what it is like to have them attack you with little to nothing to back it up outside of the best effort on the pitch." He'd experienced it far too often in the past to know how that felt. "The media, in the end, are just someone you have to ignore. They look for anything to bother you." A shrug leaves the midfielder. "It is what I do, they love to make up anything to get to you."
"At least if something was said by someone I play with, it shows the fans that the media don't know what they are talking about." Xander told him. "I do ignore them. Its just really annoying how they something like that, yet when you score in a big games, they have all kinds of praise. They just want the views, or comments." Xander looked at him. "I don't let them see if it gets to me or not though. I just prove them wrong."

"I can't deny that." Jo answered, knowing full well what Xander was saying. He's seen it in the news but thankfully it was less so an issue here, it was elsewhere he couldn't entirely speak on. His other comment made the blond's brow arch before letting out a chuckle. "I know that, trust me, but it is very helpful when you do. But we are a team, anything we can all do to help score, the better."
Xander hated it when people did ruin it for others and took it too far. He noticed the other's eyebrow raise and then chuckle. He gave him a look. "I should have known you would say that." He laughed. "Can you tell the media that, please? I seem to keep hearing that when I don't score in a game, its because I am declining with how I play." He said. Xander didn't really let what was written about him et to him. But he couldn't understand how they were saying this when he was doing really well.

❝ you're welcome. ❞ her grin grew as he took the bottle from her. she wasn't being subtle at all with the way she looked at him. he was incredibly good looking – and to actually have him interest? she wasn't expecting it. mostly because her luck with men hadn't been so great in the past. she sure the hell didn't want to mess this up nor move too fast. reaching for a beer , opening it and turning towards him , she blushed a bit. ❝ so . . . ummm , I guess a tour ? ❞ she glanced down , biting her bottom lip before stepping closer . ❝ unless you want to do something else? ❞
Xander could see the way she was looking at him. He was looking at her in a certain way but he wasn't sure if she had noticed that. Xander looked down at the bottle for a moment before taking another sip before he looked back at Lena again. "Mmm, tour." He said, although his eyes were staying on her as she stepped closer. "Something else?" He repeated, distracted. He hadn't realized that she was actually asking if he wanted to do something else.
