You are sugar, ambition, and rain. You are a hot coffee on a cold day. You are a broadway musical. You are a crowded city street yet somehow a completely empty beach at sunset. And my love, you are everything good in this world.

The cities of the world are calling to me, and I want to live them all. I want to leave tiny pieces of myself in every corner of the world. A citizen of nowhere, but belonging everywhere.

She did not live, she survived. At least until she met the boy with the light in his eyes and the fire in his heart. When she met him, she did not just survive, she thrived.

Survival of the fittest is the name of the game No pain, no gain they say as they leave my speachless corpse behind in the dust. And as they slowly turn into we I decide, “me” is not good enough. So I leave different pieces behind Every hour, cutting apart who I was to make who I am.

I have scars you cannot see. To make them visible you would have to enter my head, undress my mind, make love to my soul. However, I’m hesitant on letting you in. After all, this is how the former scars began.

I’m waiting for you to get home So I decided to write And as I wrote I remembered how your soft mouth felt on mine, all full of fangs, And how your fingers traced patterns over my scaly hide like I was a piece of art. I thought back to how you laughed as you lay next to me, that starshine glowing on your bright eyes; Thought about how much I loved to be with you in every way. Life is hard, and monsters like me don’t often find treasures like you But I’m so happy in your arms It’s almost like you take the monster right out of me And make it tender to your touch. I’m still waiting for you to finish work So I can wrap my clawed hands around yours and find the talons don’t pierce the skin like I was scared they would. I’ll bury my muzzle against your neck and you’ll say: “I love you” But the magic is there’s no sourness, nor is there bitterness when I say: “And I love you” Tonight, we’ll curl up under the stars and I’ll remember what the days were like without you and I’ll count my blessings - Because I never thought I’d have my wings set free by a human like you For all too often I’ve been caged. But you see beyond the monster And for that, you’re more than worth the gentleness, the soft words, the whispers in the dark; the time spent, the work put in, the tears shed, the challenges faced- the wait. Finally, I’m happy to wait for my heart to come home.
