What does this mean
Assuming the human race survives longer than, you know, next week, I like to imagine how future civilization will characterize the avocado toast trend/obsession/controversy of the late aughts-2010s. An epicurean delight? An embodiment of a hedonistic “live for the now” type of philosophy? Maybe someone will speculate on how the blink-and-you’ll-miss-it ripeness cycle of the avocado is symbolic of the millennial rejection of delayed gratification in favor of embracing the knowledge that the joys of life are fleeting and so you must eat the fruits whilst they are still ripe.
I feel like there’s already a lot of thematic meaning ascribed to this breakfast.

“Abbacchio’s heart leaps into his throat at the sight of Bruno there, slumped on the ground at the side of the toilet. Sagging so far down, like he’s trying to disappear into the tile, can’t hold himself upright.
His face is green-pale, much more so than usual, and that purplish scar on his cheek pulls tight at the skin around it. The only spot of real color is his mouth, settled a little bit open and stained red all over, as if Bruno had scrubbed a hand across it at one point, smearing what has to be blood across his cheek. Even the blue of his eyes is dull and dead.”
