do you have an advice on how to come out to your parents and also how to not care so much what others think. i currently have a girlfriend (we're both 14) and she's come out to her parents and i haven't come out to mine yet. i'm just so stressed about how they'll react :(
hiiii sweetheart. without knowing about your parents/living situation, i’ll just give a couple general things to keep in mind. firstly, and most importantly, don’t come out if it will put you in danger. don’t come out if your parents will compromise your living situation, financial situation, or any other responsibility they have for you. i think there can be a large focus on coming out (obviously a nuanced decision with many pros!!) but if coming out costs you your safety, your financial stability, or your life, wait. wait until you are out of that position.
moving on with the hope and assumption that your parents would be supportive but you are still nervous: i totally get you! my parents were vocal supporters of gay rights, with gay friends, but i was still really really scared. you know your parents better than i do, and maybe know how or when you feel most comfortable with them. i didn’t want to sit down and tell them together like it was a big scary thing-- that made me really nervous and didn’t feel authentic to our relationship. instead, i told them separately, in quiet, private moments. my mom, after dinner, my dad, in the car driving home from a friend’s house. the words feel horrible and paralyzing until they’re out. and then they’re out! and what a joy it is to be known and understood.
it took me a long time to feel comfortable telling people at my school, to be come facebook official, that kind of thing. it is a snowball effect though. when you tell one person, it becomes a lot easier to tell the next. it is natural, good even, to care to some degree about what people think. however, their varied opinions on you and your girlfriend are ultimately irrelevant. something i’m learning is that the only truly important thing in life is to be happy, and to ease other’s suffering. you are doing both, and you can feel so much joy in that. love to you and yours, and the happiest wishes for a beautiful and accepting 2019.
How can I find myself a girlfriend? I'm already 19 and I have never kissed anyone and I'm paranoid to the point that it's already to late for me to experience it properly idk, I'm such a mess.
i’ve noticed a lot of people expressing a similar sentiment in the notes of that post and i just want to say: 19 is so young! no age is too old to properly experience love! i’m definitely an outlier in terms of age, i promise that you don’t need to start at 13 for it to be worthwhile. you could be 30, or 40, or 60, or 75, and when love comes into your life it would feel like the perfect time. it is the ultimate unifer, the kind of experience that, when its right, fits where it is. there are also SO many experiences outside of relationships that are integral to life and that give us purpose and fullness and joy. your friendships, your favourite places, travelling, exploring... you are a 100% complete person, and you don’t need anyone to fulfill what is already full. you will find someone who loves you so much-- i’m so excited for you, whenever and however that may be.

i just read through your “b” tag and am now s o b b i n g. i started talking to this girl about a year ago, and i was so so so in love with her and we used to talk about getting married but never actually dated because she’s in germany and i’m in australia. we stopped talking because my grandfather died and i was in a bad place and it’s completely my fault and i miss her so so much. this just turned into a rant. sorry.

this is really sweet!! thank you soooo much. i live in toronto, canada... i love it so much and would recommend it to someone travelling. when i lived in the states i lived in miami which i really liked as well. i don’t know the states super well but i’ve visited california, oregon, and seattle and loved them all. i have to say that my most fervent recommendations would be in canada-- i took a trip to vancouver, BC and looooved it. i’ve never been but alberta is a beautiful, beautiful place to visit. i love montreal. toronto is one of my favourite cities in the world. come visit!! i’ll give you lots of recommendations :-)

hi there!! we were long distance for 2 years, and saw each other a few times each year. mainly for a weekend, except for the summer where we'd spend a month+ with each other. distance is so hard. what we found helped was being really present in each other's lives. we talked every day, sent letters and packages, read the same books and watched movies together... i don't know, we really prioritized each other's company, like i said before. i never felt like i didn't know what was going on with her. we were dating, still. pursuing each other and learning more. we also liked having a date we were seeing each other set. having something to look forward to makes a big difference. i hope everything goes well with you and yours. when it's good, it is so worth it. xo

that is very very kind of you (if you’re suggesting what i think you are suggesting) but there is absolutely no need!! we don’t have a registry yet and when we do we are keeping it small. thank you so so much for thinking of us so generously.
