What’s your favourite hc about each member of the gang?

Darry - He likes flowers and has his own garden hidden somewhere. Idk, to me it shows that he has hobbies other than parenting his brothers and the gang. It also shows that he’s capable of being soft and nurturing, plus I think it highlights a connection between him and his mom bc she used to garden. Yeah, he looks exactly like his dad, but he has his mom’s personality.

Soda - Him having auditory hallucinations from the extreme stress and grief he’s been put through, especially bc he’s always stuck between Darry and Pony, and because of this he ends up being very overlooked. He’d end up stressing so much that he hears things that aren’t there and literally thinks he’s going crazy. The hallucinations range from beeping and dogs barking to soft screams and whispers.

Pony - That he accidentally starts faking being sick so he can spend time with both his brothers, especially Darry bc he misses him ever since their parents died. He didn’t even do it on purpose the first few times, he was just miserable that they didn’t spend much time together and Darry and Soda just assumed he was sick and they all crawled into bed together bc that’s what they do when one of them is sick. After the first few times he realized what he was doing and felt a little guilty but still does it sometimes.

Dally - He wears a cross bc when he lived in New York he somehow became friends with a priest. He tried not to, absolutely hated the guys guts, but eventually he ended up liking him. Dally hated the idea of God bc his life was horrible and unfair, he always asked why the priest still believed in God when even his life was horrible too. To Dally God had to have tormented that priest personally bc his life was that bad, his wife and kids were killed, he literally lived in the church bc of poverty. The priest just said that one quote about God giving his hardest battles to his strongest soldiers and such. Dally obv thought that was bs but he stuck around. The priest is eventually murdered but before that he gives Dally his necklace. It also solidified his hate for God and really any authority figure. It’s like that one Lucifer episode, ik this is vague I’m so sorry 😭

Johnny - He’s completely unaware of social cues, cannot pick up on them in the slightest. He always thought that people didn’t like talking to him bc he was a greaser and came from a bad home, even other greasers avoided him, but it’s actually bc bro accidentally makes every convo awkward without realizing it. The gang have learned just to ignore it and stick with him bc it’s not like he can fix it, in other words they love him despite his flaws.

Two-Bit - He has curly hair, like really curly hair. He’s always hated it and it unironically makes him look like Ronald McDonald, which most people would assume he’d like bc he’s goofy enough to think that’s funny. He hates it bc it makes him look like his deadbeat dad who walked out on him and his mom before his sister was born. Ever since he was little he felt like that because he looked like his dad he was predestined to turn out like him, mean and unloving. So, as a solution, he slicks back his hair with so much gel no one can tell his hair was ever curly and makes jokes with every breath he takes. Being like his father haunts him, he does everything he can to prevent it.

His power is cryokinesis, which is literally just a cool way of saying he has the ability to manipulate and create ice. They manifested early, when he was about 14-15, and at first he thought his powers were super cool. He’d go around helping people out, and eventually people gave him a name, one that stuck, Hell Frost.

This continued up until his parents’ deaths, when he lost control of his powers for the first time. Tulsa was hit with the worst snowstorm it’d ever seen, listening to the tv drone about numerous injuries and, worse, a handful of casualties, and when the power went out, sitting with his brothers in his room and watching them shiver and shake, made him think that maybe his powers weren’t the kind that helped people, but the ones that hurt them instead. Truthfully, it scared him, and after that Hell Frost became a simple myth on the streets of Tulsa. He had more important things to do than stopping criminals anyways, that was the police’s job after all.

Covering up his powers was easy until the events of the book, where after Pony runs away, the emotional stress and the consequences of repressing his powers catch up to him. This leads to Soda getting hurt in a bit of an Elsa and Anna kind of situation, except it’s a spike of ice that ended up in his shoulder. After that, Darry knew he was what he’d feared, a monster.

Now, years later when everyone’s powers have manifested and they all work with the NHS (no, not the National Honors Society, the National Hero’s Society) in one way or another, Darry still doesn’t trust himself. He’s rarely seen, only going to help when the threat is big enough, despite his brothers always telling him it would help if he used his powers more often.

Looking at them, knowing he drove Pony away and remembering the exact shape of the scar on Soda’s shoulder, Darry doesn’t think he’ll ever live comfortably with his powers.

Alright, now that that’s over, here’s some other tidbits of info, then I’ll be quiet I promise:

- Pony designed the suit bc every one the NHS sent to Darry was returned unopened.

^ The design on the suit is meant to mimic the cracks in ice, and with the help of some very clever engineers, the suit rearranges the cracks where Darry’s been hit so he can’t lie about being fine.

- His powers aren’t just dangerous to others, but also to Darry himself. If he uses them too long, his extremities get pseudo-frostbite, which can spread and lead to the loss of limbs or even his life.

- His body, as you would’ve guessed, is as cold as a block of ice sometimes.

- Darry can’t fly sadly, so he skates. He creates ice pathways and can get anywhere he needs quickly.

I’m honestly pretty happy with this, I’m sure there’s a lot I could’ve done better but at this point I want to stop looking at this for a little while 😭 Also here’s another version I’m partial too, I don’t like it that much but I spent way too much time on it

Darry - He’d like them but prob wouldn’t say much bc he’s too busy telling Soda he’s not getting eighteen piercings and a forehead tattoo. Would discreetly ask if there was anything specific they had to do after getting a tattoo or piercing bc he knows Sods will eventually get something done and he wants to be informed so his brother isn’t in pain.

Soda- Would love them sm, he’s the type of person that wants fifteen tattoos and piercings. Would be asking where they’d got them and how much it cost etcetera etcetera. He’d be fangirling HARD and the gang would be to sick of him picking out random tattoos he wants to get.

Pony- He ends up staring for a while before asking if they have any meaning behind them, he would over analyze so much. Bonus points if they do have a meaning bc then they’d really have his interest. He’d prob get one or two in discreet spots about literature and such.

Dally- Acts like he really didn’t care all that much, but def thinks they’re tuff. He’d also be the type of person to want a lot of tattoos and piercings but since you can’t steal either of those it’ll have to wait. Would listen when they’re talking about the pain bc he’s bad with needles.

Johnny- Also ends up quietly staring for a while before quietly asking how much they hurt to get bc he has sensitive skin. He’d love the idea of tattoos or piercings but wouldn’t love the idea of the pain or letting someone he didn’t know touch him for extended periods of time.

Two-Bit- Would def joke that they got them in prison or some shit and would accidentally create a rumor that they’d killed a guy with their pinky. Bro would easily get a Mickey Mouse tattoo or piercing if he had the money, like a tramp stamp tattoo or a septum with the classic ears.

- He really likes board games, like a lot. He’ll beg Tim or Angela to play battleship or guess who with him so often they play almost everyday. Monopoly is banned in their house bc literal blood is shed over those properties and fake money.

- He’s a bit like a magnet with his siblings, sometimes he’s super clingy with them, hovering around Tim no matter what he’s doing and always keeping an arm around Angela. Other times he can’t stand to be around them and does everything he can to repel and avoid them.

- (Modern) Curly would love those cheap helicopter drones from 7/11, would probably take one to school and terrorize people he didn’t like.

- Has a pet rat snake. It’s not really his pet, it just habitually goes to him bc he feeds it. He named it cheese because it usually eats mice.

- His favorite holiday is Halloween simply because he gets to put on a scary mask and scare any unsuspecting people out for the night. This included Pony, but only once bc Pony punched him in the nose.

- Whenever Angela goes outside to tan he goes with her, he claims it’s just because he likes tanning, which is true, but it’s also because he likes throwing rocks at anybody who stares too long.

- Always has his nails painted one color or another, courtesy of Angela.

- Learned how to braid hair solely for Angela when she was too young to do it, but now that she can do it on her own he sometimes braids his own hair.

- The messiest eater anyone’s ever seen, like he cannot keep the food in his mouth bc he never stops talking.

- He’s on the school soccer team, he rarely goes to practice due to suspension and detentions but he always shows up for games. Which is a great thing for the team bc he’s one of their best players

^ He gets a lot of yellow and red cards bc he ‘accidentally’ tackles some people when they get in his way.

- Darry’s a slightly taller and a little more lanky compared to Paul who’s broader and a little shorter than Darry.

- Darry and Paul were always doing something equivalent to a Jackass episode in high school. They’ll both have ungodly dad lore.

- Johnny sometimes goes to the Curtis house really late, like 3 or 4 in the morning and scares the shit out of whoever’s unlucky enough to find him first. Pony goes to get a glass of water and just sees 👁️👁️ in the darkness and screams.

- Steve and Evie are the most disgustingly affectionate couple to be around. Soda and Sandy were fine but those two are always staring lovingly into each others eyes and it makes the gang sick.

- Dally pronounces marry, merry, and Mary differently bc of his accent (yes I’m projecting with this one but I think it’s cool, I only noticed that I do it bc my friends kept pointing it out). He says meh-rry, mah-rry, and may-rry.

- Two-Bit sometimes brings his little sister around and she absolutely loves the gang. They host a big game of hide and seek or tag with as many people as they can find (they usually drag the Shepard’s into it) and just go for it.

- Angela and Evie are best friends, they’re always doing each others makeup and hair and just wandering around together bc they’re some of the only girl greasers around.

- Darry actually has a lot of fun at his roofing job. He likes his coworkers and considers them all good friends. When he gets home he’s just overstimulated from a long day of social interaction and usually he’s sore from actually doing work.

- Pony can never get jars open by himself so he has to ask someone else to do it, he swears that someone super glues the tops when he’s not looking (he’d be correct, but only once or twice. Soda was bored.)

- Johnny seems completely unaffected by the weather, like it doesn’t occur to him that it’s 98 degrees outside and he’s wearing jeans and a jacket.

- Curly’s the emotionally intelligent one in his family, it’s just something with the middle kid.

- Steve will randomly trip people for no reason other than shits and giggles.

- Soda’s really good at taking photos, like he knows how to get good angle, good at lighting, everything. He’s usually the one who takes any photos of whatever’s going on and they’re always good.

- Angela’s has really unsteady hands so she either gets Curly or Evie to help her paint her nails.

- Two-Bit isn’t very good at keeping secrets. He’s always talking and something he wasn’t supposed to say just slips out and he’s like ‘oops’.

- All of the Curtis’ cry laugh for some reason, so obviously it must be genetic.

- Soda was really fascinated by rocks when he was a kid, he still is but he’s a little more secretive about it now. Pony and Darry know and try to give him sometime cool every once in a while, like moss agate or tourmaline.

I mentioned this in my headcanon post but Darry and Paul have matching tattoos in my head so 🤷 Also here’s the full tattoo, I’m actually really happy with it bc I had no idea what I was doing when I made it 😭

- As well as matching earrings they also have matching tattoos, although it’s in most stereotypical place possible (iykyk). Darry doesn’t know if he regrets the tattoo or the person he shares it with (it’s neither.)

- Out of the two of them, Darry’s typically the calmer one, although not by much. His temper just got a lot worse after his parents died.

- Idk if I said this before but I like to think Paul didn’t want to stop being friends with Darry, his step-father forced him to bc he thought Darry ruined their reputation.

- Swapped letterman jackets often enough that they forgot whose was whose. Darry strongly suspects he has Paul’s original one bc of the awful cologne that sticks to it.

- They had prank wars against each other. Darry replaced Paul’s bougie hair product with grease, Paul ‘gifted’ Darry a pair of dissolving swim trunks, and numerous pranks concerning glitter.

- On Valentines they’d write each other the most vile ‘love’ letters. Basically an excuse to give each other hate mail.

- Consistently competing about everything. Who can lift the most, who’s the faster runner, who gets better grades, etc etc.

- Always did matching costumes for Halloween. Darry usually did something with his brothers but he also did something with Paul. Slashers, Scooby Doo, things like that.
