The fact that the mail bomber had his house improperly foreclosed on by the company of Steve Mnuchin, then-banker and now-Trumpâs Secretary of Treasury, is such a perfect encapsulation of how right-wing populism works. You provide cover for one segment of elites by scapegoating marginalized people and a competing segment of elites, who you claim are in cahoots with one another.Â
Right-wing populism a powerful enough ideological tool that you can literally get someone to join a cult of personality around a man even as he empowers someone who directly harmed them, simply by acknowledging the potential for the redirection of raw anger. The Trump administration literally, personally damaged the bomberâs life, but he likely never even knew it, never even knew that the man behind his foreclosure was now working with the man he idolized. Following the foreclosure, he was probably just angry at the prevailing system, but his anger had no structure, no ideology (it seems he wasnât even politically active before 2016). In absence of a popular leftist systemic critique, the hard right was able to monopolize the response to anger among many white people, redirect it, and mold it in the shape of producerism. Rather than being led to realize the way the construction of power in society actually functions to disadvantage him along the lines of class while keeping him invested in the system with compensatory privileges along lines of race, gender, etc. (see Du Boisâ âwages of whitenessâ argument [pg. 700-701 here]), he instead was led to follow the fraudulent right-wing alternative: that corrupt liberal elites were using their power to ruin his life through their promotion of âglobalism,â multiculturalism, cronyism, etc.Â
Things like this always make me think back to an anecdote from Chip Berletâs extremely insightful âRight-Wing Populism in America: Too Close For Comfortâ:
Posse [Commitatus] and [Christian] Identity organizers capitalized on the farm crisis of the 1980s. Rural America faced its worst economic slump in half a century, owing largely to unfair and inequitable policies by the federal government and private banks. While most of society ignored angry and desperate rural familiesâ legitimate grievances, far-right activists urged resistance and offered ready scapegoats, namely, the Jews who supposedly controlled the Internal Revenue Service and the Federal Reserve. In the early 1980âs, Posse activists helped to split the influential American Agricultural Movement, while Identity theology and antisemitic conspiracy theories gained an alarming level of acceptance in rural America. One poll in 1985 found that in the farm belt 27 percent of respondents felt that âinternational Jewish bankersâ were responsible for the farm crisis.
Right-wing populism is an ideological mechanism which mobilizes people who are are wronged by elites to fight in defense of certain factions of elites rather than against the system of elites as a whole by redirecting their anger towards scapegoats who are perceived to threaten privileges that they hold along other dimensions than the one they were wronged on.
this dude slyly throwing out the âpeople used to fear scandinaviansâ bullshit on this post about how big this one guy is is a good example of how white nationalists trick an unwitting audience into sharing their talking points unquestioned
Iâm so fucking tired of goyim ignoring antisemitism. They ignore everything until something so extreme happens, like the recent shooting. How about you start caring about us BEFORE WE FUCKING DIE. Just fucking LISTEN for ONCE when we say weâre angry or scared or sad about the injustices we as a people have faced OVER AND OVER AGAIN. I donât know one single Jewish person who hasnt been touched by antisemitism. Iâve been called a kike more times than I can count. I went to elementary school with a boy who told me he wished Hitler had won the war. I was shouted at and threatened by a stranger for wearing a Magen David. My grandpa has had to respond to bomb threats at our synagogue. My grandma had to switch roommates in college because her roommate was violently antisemitic. My fucking Jewish PRESCHOOL had to have ARMED GUARDS to keep people from fucking MURDERING PRESCHOOL AGED JEWISH CHILDREN. I thought all preschools had armed guards until I was like 12. Just fucking LISTEN when we say things. Here, Iâll give you a list of things you NEED to listen to us about.
Holocaust deniers are violent antisemites, no exceptions. They are dangerous and do not deserve a platform to speak.
Jewish people cannot be nazis, no matter how much you disagree with them. Ben Shapiro is a piece of transphobic racist shit, but heâs not and will never be a Nazi.
Trump and many people in his cabinet have repeatedly used antisemitic dog whistles, most recently calling himself a nationalist.
We. Are not. All. White. Stop being dicks to Jewish people of color.
And weâre not all ashkenazi!!! Google is your friend if you donât know what that means.
Donât do that âNazi puncherâ bullshit if you donât actively uplift and defend Jewish people. Punching nazis is a great thing but you need to uplift and support jews at the same time.
Stop pinning Israeli war crimes on random Jewish people. And stop demanding we tell you our opinions on Israel before you treat us with basic human decency.
GOY IS NOT A SLUR
Judaism is an ETHNORELIGION. I am both religiously AND ethnically Jewish. Itâs not that hard to understand.
Stop tone policing us
Just fucking listen when we speak
Goyim please reblog

There are many, many jobs that are much worse than working at Netflix. But based on an extensive profile of the companyâs culture, the str
A former marketing vice president described to the Journal how she was working over the weekend to promote the second season of Orange Is the New Black in New York City, and received word that her boss wanted to have an early meeting on Monday. When she arrived to the meeting, she was told that she was fired because she wasnât a âcultural fit.â
Chief Talent Officer Tawni Nazario-Cranz later told the former executive that she should have fired one of the people she supervised faster. She had failed the âKeeper Test.â Nazario-Cranz was subsequently fired last year. Several managers said they feel they have to make sure to fire people or theyâll look soft.
Firings can be abrupt but Netflix maintains that its radically transparent culture should give everyone a good idea of where they stand. Executives regularly hold roundtables in which they criticize each other and all employees are encouraged to give each other no-holds-barred feedback. When a person screws up they are expected to pay public penance and explain to others what they did wrong in a process called âsunshining.â When someone is fired, an email is sent to employees explaining in detail why they were fired. Often times the details of firings are outlined at length in-person at all-hands meetings.

I know with all my heart that over half of these people are taking anti stress pills on a daily.
hm rethinking pitching at netflix
Is this there content creators or their internal employees
By the sounds of it internal employees
Iâve made many posts about this but rn Iâm exhausted and scared so I thought Iâd communicate in memes. My donation goal and progress is in my description. Reblogs would be met with my eternal gratitude.

The right loves cruel actions like what the Trump is doing to trans folks not because the majority of them (especially the ones in power) actually care one way or another. Cruelty is an easy way to exert power over someone with less power, and itâs largely an exertion of power for powerâs sake. The authoritarian rightâs philosophy centers around the triumph of the will (hence, you know, the title of that film), whether it be the will of the individual as a stand-in for the in-group/nation/ethnostate or the in-group/nation/ethnostate itself. The successful imposition of oneâs will over anotherâs is a pure expression of power. The left asks, begs, requests, negotiates, demands; the right imposes.
The right will do things it doesnât care about or which seem trivial to the agenda which most of them most genuinely and deeply believe in because they are expressions of power and will. Which is not to say that there isnât a significant undercurrent of genuine bigotry that drives the majority of the right which goes beyond a thirst for power, especially when it comes to things and people and ideas they fear. But core beyond all else to their ideology is a pathological craving for power in as pure a form and as great a volume as they can get.
[Urgent] Moving Out Help 10/23/18
Hey everyone itâs Mod F. As you have all probably heard by now my gf and I were hoping to move into our own apartment on 10/29/18. Since most of the wages from my our primary jobs go to maintaing our current living situation (which includes ridiculously long/expensive commutes that moving would allow us to shorten drastically) weâve had to save up for this move over the past few months by working extra hours doing odd jobs. However, the last two jobs we had scheduled to cover the costs have both suddenly cancelled on us over the past three days. This leaves us $450 ($300 on the last half of our security deposit and $150 on rent) short with only six days to cover it. Weâre both scrambling for other jobs but any help is deeply appreciated.
My gfâs family is struggling and food insecure. Understandably they have no financial help they can give at the moment. Mine are abusive and have at this point basically disowned me for leaving them to live my life as an out lesbian.
I hate to ask for help again but Iâm desperate not to lose this opportunity for our own place to live after a lifetime of turmoil involving my controlling abusive family. Iâm especially desperate for it due to the heightened problems with them over the past few months after I finally cut them off completely. This is the closest Iâve been in my life to attaining a space thatâs both physically comfortable and non-abusive to live in. Iâm incredibly grateful to anyone willing to lend a hand.
[Current Living Arrangement: Why weâre moving]
Currently we live in a cramped converted dining room that has a blanket tacked up instead of a real door which opens directly onto the common area of the house and is positioned right next to the front door. This means we have very little privacy and limited sleep when anyone else is coming and going. The house itself is very small and crowded with four other adults and two toddlers spread between two tiny bedrooms. We all share one bathroom, the fridge barley works, and we cook on a hot plate because the stove doesnât function either.
Tldr: We need to come up with $450 in six days after the sudden cancellation of two odd jobs we were supposed to use to cover the last of our moving expenses.

if youâre living in the united states and have a formal disability diagnosisâincluding autism spectrum disorder and maybe even ptsdâyouâre likely eligible to open an ABLE Account.
itâs a tax-advantaged savings account that is also exempt from means-testing, meaning that anything you put in there canât be counted against you for medicaid, SNAP, SSI, or SSDI.
you can pay for a lot out of an ABLE account, including basic living expenses (rent, utilities, transportation), medical expenses (whether or not theyâre related to your disability), and education expenses. this account is likely going to enable me to pay for my own grs. please look into it!

I love when the âomg GO VOTE!!!â braindead crowd starts yelling at foreigners and children for being critical of the government bc itâs always really funny to like see some1 tell a random guy somewhere in like India âtrump wouldnât have won if you just voted!!!â Or come into the inbox of a 13 yr old and demand they register to vote
this was on a post about a cat who didnt want to vote
itâs crazy and downright scary how good women are at pretending that theyâre happy. you could have a woman living in an emotional pit that she doesnât even believe thereâs a way out of but to you and all around her, sheâs a ball of sunshine. itâs terrifying.
currently trying to raise the money to pay the court fees to get my name and gender marker legally changed, if anyone can help out at all my cash app is $kacollins32
all adults have a responsibility toward the safety+well-being of all children theyâre around, irl and online. i canât believe this #hot take is controversial like. at all
regardless of real life or the internet the health and well being is only ever the responsibility of:
A.)The childâs parent/guardian/caretaker.
B.)Themselves.
Itâs called doing the right thing and not being a tool about it.
being a good parent means keeping an eye on your own damn kids or having them taken care of by someone who can. While i would certainly take steps to keep a child from danger it is most certainly NOT my responsibility.
there will always be some kids whose parents donât do that. there will always be situations where kids are vulnerable to the other adults in their lives -family members, friends of the family, teachers, the world at large. children donât just stay inside doing only what their parents allow them to do even when they do have good and responsible parents, and if they did it would be genuinely bad for their brain development anyways.Â
what about gay and trans kids with homophobic parents who send their kids to conversion therapy, resulting in lifetimes of higher mental illness and suicide rates for those kids? what about young children of color who are treated as automatically criminally suspicious by racist white adults? what about autistic kids whose parents try to âcureâ them with abusive, unscientific bullshit that passes as âtherapyâ? what about the children of parents who are âanti vaxxersâ? what about children in any kind of abusive household? should we all just fucking ignore them because since weâre not those kidsâ parents, itâs not our responsibility?
the idea that you are in no way obligated to take care of children that arenât directly related to you is fucking insane, period. (not to mention the idea that your responsibility only extends as far as the children who literally came out of you, jesus christ.) read anything about basic anthropology or how human beings existed together in societies before modern industrialization happened and youâll be confronted with hard evidence that is not how human beings naturally behave. you arenât just arguing for you personally to have the least personal obligation to anyone or anything and damn the consequences, youâre arguing that against nature we should normalize not giving a shit about the most vulnerable human beings there are as much as possible.Â
everyone knows if you see a kid in danger, you do what you can to help them. a baby is in a locked car on a hot day, you break the window and get the kid out. you see a kid being groomed by a predator, you step in. thatâs not being a hero or an especially good person, thatâs being a regular ass, bare minimum human.
if you take this stance, whether itâs because youâre one of these âlibertarianâ/âclassical liberalâ âIndividual Rights means I get to treat others like shitâ people, or one of these âtelling me to be nice to children who annoy me is ableistâ people, or one of these âtelling me to stop circulating and normalizing incest, child porn, and ânon-conâ content online in the name of Fandom is sexistâ types who always get on posts like this to claim theyâre being oppressed, fuck you. there is no possible reason other than your own unbelievable immaturity and selfishness that you wouldnât automatically be responsible to do whatever you can do to make this world safer for children.
idk i feel like its NOT your responsability but its definitely the Right Thing To Do. Like i dont Have to take care of others but im still gonna cause im not an awful person especially if its a kid. idk
yeah, and im arguing that you have a responsibility to do the right thing by being willing to change your own environment and actions in order to protect kids
Really mystified by people who get genuinely upset by statements that boil down to donât be a total dick
Like I cannot express how unstable a situation has become when some (Eight now?) bombs all show up in one day, and the mainstream right-wing voices are shouting about false flags. The situation has deteriorated so far that I wouldnât be surprised at a proper coup following the midterm elections.Â
My concern here is how far the strategy of not disagreeing with some political point, but outright denying the existence of anything which would go against your narrative. The USA has a small army of individuals who have been effectively taught to outright deny the existence of anything which goes against the party line. Itâs a degree of brainwashing which would seem laughable in some dystopian novel, and yet itâs become an everyday event here. There is absolutely nothing which will sway the minds of these people.Â

A couple's date night was ruined when security tried to kick a lesbian out of a bowling alley because she used the womens' restrooms
Anti trans hysteria hurts cis women too, especially gay/gnc cis women
Protip: most people who are âbathroom vigilantesâ are conservative straight folks who probably canât tell a butch lesbian from a trans woman (or a trans man, for that matter). I do want radfems, especially the butch/GNC ones, to ask themselves if theyâd be comfortable being forced into the menâs room by a straight soccer mom if they got to force trans women out of the womenâs restroom.
The comments on the article are basically a bunch of people going âwell she dressed like a man so it was her faultâ like I thought we moved on from the âgirls canât wear pantsâ mentality??
wow look itâs exactly what we knew was going to happen
Ah yes leftists âtrickedâ people into not voting, it wasnât that your candidate was likeâŚa war criminal and a racist and campaigned like she already won, it was all our fault she didnât win even though she won the popular vote
She literally said on NPR that she started supporting gay marriage because it was politically convenient l
also important to note that looking at the breakdown of majority trump areas, gerrymandering and voter suppression played a larger role in people not voting because they couldnât than people in majority blue states (that went blue anyway) not voting by choice
and the democratic establishment hasnât really done shit about it
And even still she won the popular vote. But itâs still people who are in any way critical of the system that are at fault, and not the system itself. I wonder why that is and who it may be convenient for.
