About this blog
Okay, I think I finally need to do a pinned post because I’m terrible at social cues in certain contexts and I don’t want people to have to do guess work about me.
Hi! As it says in my bio, I’m a disabled queer nonbinary person in my thirties. I’m white (scots-irish descent) and live in the northeast of USAmerica. I have been on tumblr since 2009. I think I have about 30 followers. I don’t do this to be popular, I hang out here because unlike other social media this website mostly stresses me out less rather than more.
Blog title is pronounced “shee-skal” and means “fairytale” in Irish.
Personal posts: I have a public-facing identity IRL on a few different vectors, so while I mostly use this to reblog things I find cute, funny, or profound I will occasionally embrace the anonymity of the platform and make personal journaling posts. They are often about when I’m having a hard time because that’s the sensitive stuff I don’t want to share publicly.
Blogging: My other blogs are @lookheremylove which I use to collect stuff I want to show my spouse, and @softer-palette which is an aesthetic blog of stuff that’s a soothing shade of blue. I use the heart button a lot for posts I intend to come back to later. I don’t use the queue very often. I try to be polite by putting commentary in the tags rather than adding onto posts. I’m extremely shy about taking up space and will default to leaving replies if I have something to say.
I am not funny. My only original post that got a little bit popular was a four-word post that I smashed out at 12:30am while astoundingly drunk on Christmas eve. I’m told that my sense of humor works better in person.
Religion: Yes I am a for real ordained minister and that is my full-time job. I’m a non-Christian Unitarian Universalist and my theology is something to the effect of transcendental immanentism with a side of IFS thrown in. I grew up Catholic. I think trans people are holy. I am married to an agnostic/secular Jew and my seminary degree required me to engage in a bananas amount of study regarding the history and practice of worldwide faith traditions. I enjoy learning about people’s beliefs and will sometimes follow blogs which talk about religion for that reason.
Interaction disclaimers: My interaction patterns are greatly influenced by my chronic illnesses. I have to spend an absurd amount of time resting due to fatigue and pain, and my ADHD and other brain fog makes scrolling tumblr an easy go-to. A word of warning, I also have lifelong chronic insomnia. A combination of the meds which are supposed to make me sleep combined with being kind of deranged from lack of sleep means that I sometimes write things on the internet in the middle of the night and then I’ll wake up the next morning like “why tf did I say that?” so if I ever send you a 4am ask that was poorly thought out, I apologize in advance.
Minors: Another relevant piece of info is that as a teen I had some very hard Learning Experiences about interacting with adults on the internet, so I’m super sensitive to interacting with younger folks. Minors are welcome to follow this blog but I’m unlikely to follow back. I will give you advice if you ask me directly (including on anon!) but as a general rule, teens, internet strangers should not be reaching out to you with a vested interest in connecting. That there’s a red flag.
Tone: I generally mean everything I say in a genuine way. I don’t have any agenda, I’m just here to pass the time. Kindness is usually my MO but sometimes I get the tone-matching wrong. If something is ever a concern for you, ask. Also I remember the days from before capitalism ruined the internet and in my heart there’s still room for non-commercialized existence by media even though that’s mostly not true anymore. Be patient with me.
I think that’s enough of an intro that I’m not a perplexing unknowable entity, but let me reiterate that I’m a pretty open book so if you have other questions or are confused about anything, ask box is open.
