The joke had not fallen on deaf ears, honestly under any other circumstances Grillby would have one hundred percent laughed at that, especially when he was younger as it was quite a funny yet dark-ish comment to make. But this was war, he couldnât allow moments of fleeting enjoyment cloud judgement of the things that were needed to be done, too much was at risk. Perhaps one day when this is all over, when they win or lose there could be a spark of a chuckle from him but not now.Â
Questions heâs asked himself multiple times, questions soldiers have posed many times prior. There was talk of a truce between a king towards the far off lands that they were currently heading towards, if there was any hope of a truce it was there. Of course Grillby had his doubts about this entire journey as why would a well off kingdom aid them in this war let alone give them respite over their own kind? Over all it was suspicious but then again his King, and Queen believed this so he shall as well. He didnât bother to answer the other as this wouldnât be the last time questions would rise from a soldier to him of this nature, and knowing this particular soldier it would be likely that they would speak like this again. .Â
When she seemed to turn so did the General as he wanted to make his way back into the inner camp to aid in whichever way he could, though he paused once he heard his soldier speak to him. He assumed this was a request for when they fell, what was to be done with them. Of course like he should thought this wasnât as simple as that, the human simply wanted to outline the obvious. Not that it didnât give the General pause before heâd offer a nod after he would start back up to leave once more. Grillby made his way through the camp giving orders where needed or paused to wrangle the smaller child monsters who were more than oblivious to the on going threat of this war. He plucked a few up before carrying them back to their parents before departing from there to aid his men in packing up. Within minutes most if not all of the tents were taken down and stowed away in the wagons. One by one the wagons loaded up with supplies, and monsters till it came time for them all to depart. He saw off the Kingâs cavalcade before returning to the Queenâs as to start leading it off to the right of the mountain. Every step was heavier than the last as he already plotted out his course of action in a âsurpriseâ raid if it were to occur. Thirteen scenarios played out in his mind as they started off, his attention up at the grassy road ahead of him as he focused on two conflicting interest at once.Â
Ah, she hopes to have is war would be over soon but...it could go or days..'s months or even years before it's over. Alyssa held a tiny smile at her attempt of humor finally coming around and relaxing some within the monsters camp. But it is war and this is her general and goofing off can wait. Al can cheer someone else up with out the bad humor, the thought of only being angry and covered in red for so long worried her..worried at the end of tearing into enough people with out any other emotion in it all would drive her into madness. Almost lost it when her son perished.
Or maybe she already has lost it. What fool cuts their hair and pretends to be a man? Renaming themselves and going off at humanity as a whole. Though she didn't change her name with the monsters she just... showed up realizing fighting for them sounded more... sane.
A truce did sound nice, another fleeting dream to hope and fight for.
Pausing her works she watched him picking up fleeting children believing this to be a game of some sort their cackles loud only to groan when returned to their parents.
Lame.
Al smiled to herself slowly the innocent grin turned to a more sorrowful one...she missed her son.
Rubbing her cheeks and watering eyes Alyssa gathered herself then geared up and got into line, muscles sore from arrow wounds trying to heal all this constant moving made it hard. Couldn't they go else where? Toward the mountains made her uneasy, her heart resting in her stomach. Why? It didn't matter where they went they will always face war. Thinking about Grilbys nod..
Would he really carry out such an unfair task? Burning a body that didn't need to be it wasn't his problem he didn't need the added trauma. She did hope he would...some how in some fucked up way it would be less human of her to become ashe. Her eyes traveled up to spot Grillby. It would also be nice to survive and make friends at the end of this ordeal it would be nice to live normally among the monsters.
What fleeting dreams...

A simple nod of his head was what she received for her apology, there neednât be a long discussion on her apology nor the content of it. War stirs up more than most are willing to give or even worse it brings out the worst in both sides. The latter half is always the most likely,  many wish for this war to end by whatever means necessary. After all it never is anyoneâs dream to have the general come to your encampment to hand off the shield, sword, or what remains of their loved one is left to remember, and mourn them by, Dreaming were for those who still have the ability to sleep, what he can do couldnât really be considered sleeping in the same regards. More often he tends to take over night watch by the magic-made fire in the camp, it often calms what turmoil he fights with in his soul. Though even without his dreams he still sees images of a better world in Asgoreâs speeches of peace, and a world where monsters and humans live together in harmony. Perhaps hearing otherâs dreams of the future could substitute sleepless nights. It wasnât spent alone, that dreaded feeling while gazing up upon the mountains lurking in the distance. Even when he was informed of the plan to traverse around it he couldnât help but have what he could only describe as a dropping feeling throughout his entire being. Of course he opposed it, but walking in mass around it only made an opportunity of attack that much more likely given an entire mass of monsters walking in unison could only be seen as a threat to any scouts or what have you that may lurk around there. So he separated his unit to give up most of the ranged soldierâs to Asgoreâs side for both suppressing fire, and to alert him to an attack with a flaming arrow to the sky. But that brings him back to the moment at hand,  Alyssa standing in front of him asking wide-eyed about horses. âWhat? Ah,  I suppose Iâve not explained it well enough. The queen is hidden among the wagon in case of a potential raid. It is protected by our healers, and a few hidden soldiers among their robes ready to fight to get the queen out of there at a momentâs notice. â He paused to let that information sink in before continuing onward, âYou, and I will be up front as horses pull the wagon, but if need me the horses can be mounted if the need arises for us to disengage  with the queen or move about the battlefield to aid in allowing others to escape.â.  Grillby looked towards Alyssa for a moment before shaking his head slightly. âIn the heat of the moment,  both options are not possible, and if it comes to that Soldier. You will not remain at the site with me, you and the others will be charged with looking after the queen to get her to the meeting spot.â By the time one of his arches on the Queenâs side shot their arrow the others would race to aid them, as others race to get the King away from battle. There would be a great loss in the end, but Grillby was prepared to ignite one of his more volatile attacks. There was always a higher risk than reward but he knew it would work to cover more ground quicker, but utterly leave him drained if not outright reduce him within an inch of his life. The other side would see the raging inferno across the mountains if not feel the intensity of his heat, it was the only warning they would receive if attempting to enter the fray. He blinked before again adjusting himself to stand tall, and focus on the moment at hand. Though another curve ball tossed itâs way into conversation as he was momentarily referred to as a âfriendâ then swiftly his title of âGeneralâ.  âDismissed Soldier, go assist the others in packing up camp. Report back to the line once you have finished aiding everyone.â
âwell, I do draw in the arrows very well so.. if someone attacks weâll know when Iâm covered in themâ Sheâs joking of course. Giving him a lazy sided grin her brows knitting together. Maybe a little worried. Itâs been rough but then again war is...rough, though that joke was so much worse then what theyâre currently talking about. She had the tendency to sleep like a log but a log with nightmares that gripped at her being tearing and tugging. âdo you think there could be a way to resolve this war? with a truce? Do you think their king would listen?â She would hope for it. readjusting herself listening to his words and commands. What he says goes and sheâll gladly follow. even if she does die or if they lose the one very thing she is afraid of is going down to hell with out seeing her son just for a moment. The thought of rottin away down below with only memories and knowing the very reason why she even joined was because she is... so blinded by anger.
Though...truth be told sheâs calmed down a lot since, found the right reason to fight instead of ripping into someone. âYes, General I shall be on it immediatelyâ Rolling her shoulders trying to shake off the dread the mountain gave her. âsay, if I do fall...â She trailed off it was sappy and maybe childish to even think. âI am glad you didnât kill meâ With a soft laugh she walked away. unable to really say âI am glad we metâÂ
She aided the smaller monsters, lifting heavier objects and putting them into the carts. Loading the ill and harmed along side, all dreams of riding the horses unless an emergency, crushed. Her body still felt tender from the raid from being shot the lack of having the chance to stop and not be at deaths door. Forcing her pause for a moment when lifting something to big or to heavy. The healers done all they could for a human body. âI fucking hate arrowsâ the knight mumbled quietly straining against a box. what the fuck was in this? food? smaller monsters? weapons? Sheâll never know.Â

hell have no fury
Even before the war the humans began to turn on the monsters one by one, rallying in the streets standing on a box screaming out how monsters are just demons trying to take our trust and then devour the human soul. Shouting about all the âwrongâ deeds theyâve done or how they werenât like us. Lies and hateful spit would echo through the streets some humans kept quiet and would keep walking along with out a glance at the liars. Less and less monsters would show up into town, either afraid of conflict happening or being chased out from angry villagers. Less and less Alyssa saw her monstrous friends, sure there were few she knew but none the less she had called them friend and them the same. Then war began, the humans standing against something they didnât understand just because they wanted to be the bigger species the betterâŚto be on top of everything. The more dust the blew in the wind the more Alyssa grew angry. She tried to stand up against the humans calling out to them that this was wrong but in the end was out casted. Stealing her fatherâs armour from his days in war against other humans Al left before being noticed she could hear the distinct howl of her angered father in the distance but that didnât stop her as she pushed through the brush towards a monsters camp, night had fallen as she drew closer and closer she saw flakes crackle through the thick woods. Stepping closer she watched monsters bustle about or relax⌠what if they donât react kindly? She would not blame them of course. Inhaling slowly she kept her hands up as she stepped into the open. All chatter stopped as their heads snapped towards the new Comer. âPlease, friends I came to aid you in this unfair warâ she started feeling a lump form in her throat âI only wish to fight with you not against youâ She waited a moment before taking her blade and tossing it before them then settled her hands back up into view, shifting her weight very so often her eyes landing on the fire elemental beside the king before casting her gaze else where. Seeming uneasy, though who could blame her? She just tossed her only defense to the ground hoping the gain even some trust or at least give them some ease towards the 'Knightâ
Grillby would let the human speak till she were blue in the face if they had the time for it, but he hadnât the time to waste with everyone packing up ready to leave this land for the next. He did let her finish her completely thought though, there were a few times he moved to interject something yet remained quiet as to simply hear her out. The king had told him to try and listen more than simply bark an order, though the need for that never truly arose, perhaps this would be the one exception to it as currently they were safe in the moment. With the end left open for an opinion Grillby shifted slightly from one for to the other before standing tall once more. âFinding someone or something to blame for something is always a struggle for many, some tend to blame others while those others blame themselves. Sometimes there isnât anyone to blame at all or often there are a plethora of things to skirt the blame towards.â Shifting his attention around them he scanned the distant soldier walking past carrying a variety of items. â Humans did start this war, yes. But it was only a matter of time as tensions on both ends were climbing higher, and higher as time went on Soldier. Most monsters blame the humans for anything or everything currently, some blame the royals for not ending this war outright.  Then there is war, regardless of who started it or who ends it, everyone loses. There is always loss in a war, mentally physically or emotionally something is always âlostâ.â A quick sigh left the General as he readjusted himself once more into an upright, straight posture. âMost wish death wasnât the outcome at all, but life is death, as death is rebirth. Where there is fire that set a forest ablaze comes new life in the forms of plants, bugs, animals.â A pause before he resumed, âThe Kingâs approach is to find peace with the humans, to offer a peace treaty with kingdoms that will hear us out. Weâre traveling further from conflict as to approach a distant kingdom for support, and a means to an end of this war as peacefully as we can. I do not trust the kingdom but I remain loyal to the cause of my rulers, they have my trust in their decisions.â He wasnât blind to the naive nature that plagued his kingâs or Queenâs decisions from time to time, he was loyal and obedient under them as he was their servant, their judgement, their mercy. He did not see the end of the war ending in the monsterâs favor, the writing was on the wall when their fifth battle took place; battle that wiped out half of the monsterâs army and injured the king in the process. Barely enough time to retreat before they went on the run from the human invaders that chased them day, and night. Even now with their numbers growing on both sides the monsters were still at a disadvantage.  But if he can stop more deaths from happening on their end, Grillby would fight to his last breath, till his light were to flicker out of this realm. He was prepare to put his life on the line for his rulers, his soldiers, his kind if it meant they lived to fight another day. That was always the plan after all, and even now as he stood here looking to Alyssa he felt the familiar swell of pride in keeping everyone under him safe. The silence that grew likely only made the wait for his reply to her last query that much more anticipated, maybe. âNo, it is always better to have hope than to lose it. Even if thinking about potential peace comes with malice towards one or both sides. But we need to move forward, starting with aiding in packing things up and preparing for another venture forth. As of today weâre following the queenâs procession outward, weâll meet with the king on the other side of the mountainâs pass.â Grillby motioned upward with his hand as the distant mountain that shrouded itself in the morning fog stood ominously in wait for their passage. âYou will be by my side instead of stationed further back, weâre to ride along with the queen in the wagon, I have my more elite foot soldiers towards the back to protect the cargo..âÂ
He was right, he was right about everything. Her worries at thus point meant nothing, the anger however would burn in her green and red soul. But the best she could do now besides bitch and moan is to continue on and fight til she perishes. She refuses to die a human even if she is one. "I'm sorry for my out burst, sir"Â She wished things were better as do they all. No one here will sleep at night once it is over... once the war is done. No one here will be able to see the night sky with out hearing the wails of the damned. the nightmares and the clawing dread. Sheâs already struggling to sleep, seeing things that she already put to rest even if it was violently She sort of wondered about what Grillby dreamt about. Hopefully something better.. something far better.Â
But she held doubt on that. Her eyes followed to where he had pointed staring at the mountain for a long moment.. a strange feeling of dread settled in the pits of her stomach. Why? What awaited them there that made her so.... uneasy? âwait, ride along?â like on.. horses? Her eyes lit up at that. ON HORSES? That uneasy feeling continued to bubble in the pits of her very being but she.. had to get her mind off of. âOf course it would be best if your suicidal soldier who is also very good at being hit by arrows.. stay up frontâ She tried to grin but her eyes betrayed her.Â
Dropping her shoulders looking back at him. Never the less uneasy feeling or not sheâll follow him straight into hell if he had asked her. âI hope there is little issue along the way...because I am tired of being shot atâ Tired of watching them die. Humanity did not appease her like it once did. Alyssa didnât much care for humans anymore anyway.
Father dearest willing to kill her. Her son is gone...she doesnât have much but those she marches with now. âI am glad we have met, even if the times are not the bestâ Glad to call him her general. âShall we my friend?â huh, friend? She spoke so... outwardly and with out really thinking about it. âI mean ah, General!â Ah there we go
hell have no fury
As the rising if the sun, soon came the son of the sun as he emerged form his tent. Their flames merged with one another as light began to flood the land with colour from the suffocating darkness of night. So started the day of taking down his tent and personal items, the little he had anyway. He placed his items in one of the un-manned carts before moving to make his rounds around the camp to awaken any soldiers or to relieve those soldiers who guarded them through the darkness of nightfall.  Everything came in short bursts to Grillby before the encampment sprung to life with monsterkind, the young and old emerged from their tents to do their part in preparing their leave from the spot, on alert from the recent raid as they traveled together. Guards soon had canvas, clothes, blankets, materials, all of what they needed and could fit on the carts before retreating back to obtain more. Continuing his path, he made way to his king, and queen to meet with them in their chambers or in this case their private canvas as to discuss the routes theyâd each take, as well as where they would meet and what days if things proceeded without incident, would they settle once more. Grillby wasnât finite with any decision to settle anywhere close to the next for acres for some time as with the recent raids they could, and would be tracked before yet another raid follows them. Next time it could be magi, or even rangers firing hell from the skies. But nonetheless he went with the final words of his king and queen. Soon he departed their tent after tending to what else was needed of him. Grillby peered around the area as the activity of monsters continued around him, soon enough he even spotted their resident human soldier as well. With plans already in motion he started towards her as to give out her orders for the remainder of their time here. He needed to meet with the healers as to see about any injuries he wasnât aware of, that is if they even went to see said healers in the first place. A pause as that was a lack in judgement on his end for not having Alyssa seen by them, but there was always next time for such things to spring up. For now he stood just within arms reach behind her, ready to call her attention before a particularly interesting subject came from her mouth. To the untrained, and headstrong a statement like that could be misinterpreted to be directed at the monsters, yet Grillby knew better by now. Especially with coming into this aloud conversation with herself with a grain of salt. âWar comes from both sides soldier, both monsters and humans wanted this war. Humans are not the only soulless beings in this existance that wants to see the destruction of the other side.â A breif yet confident statement by the General came as did a pause before he continued, âWar isnât exclusively just human in nature. Itâs what defines the home we all live on, itâs what determines the outcomes of so many impossible possibilities. It starts and ends conversations, arguments, and civilizations. It is without a doubt something that will remain so as long as there are those living or not to fight.â
Her body tensed before relaxing again and standing straight. "Maybe I shouldn't talk to myself so much" Alyssa joked setting down all she had In her arms carefully the human turned to him looking a little guilty at being caught with her thoughts like that. With a soft chuckle followed with a sigh Alyssa stood tall. "I'm aware, I just always lived with humans and trust me they aren't great...I mean you did meet my father- even before this war he's never been...right inside" digging the heel of her foot into the ground In some feeble attempt at calming her nerves. "I get monsters can be the same or feel the same as humans but they had not started this war. I-i...I'm just trying to find someone to blame I'm sorry" But she wasn't wrong, humans destroy things that they do not understand or fear. Do they fear the monsters? Or is it some sick way to put their cattle in the pen. Her brown orbs flickered from his eyes then back. "I just wish death wasn't the answer to an argument or disagreement" smoothing her hair back in distress and any means to settle down she put her hands beside her, hair stuck up in all odds and ends. She really needed a brush or something. From far and first glance someone would think she was a teenage boy. With another heavy sign she slumped her shoulders. Her lips drawn down in a worried frown. "I fear you will fall.. or the Queen...the king. So perhaps we should...find a more peaceful approach to this" she began to pace. "M-maybe the humans will find something good and finally make a treaty with us if we appease them somehow...no no.. that sounds like their gods when they're really mutts that dug themselves out of hell...and now making your life hell" she paused just stopping in her tracks her gaze finally returned to him. "Or maybe that's not something I should worry myself for?"
Far from home
sharpshooteralâ:
This ex mama looked around, she understood that yes they are in a fight but in the end player was young and lonesome. Her shoulders sagged as the other began to break under the pressure of it all. The constant failure their new found human buddy low key losing their shit over the new information about this world and theirs. Setting her sword to the side, Alyssa scooped up the smaller of the two and cradled them close to their armored torso. The whole once being a mom thing kicking in, natural need to nurture over taking the need to fight and slaughter.
The two probably looked out of place, Alyssa stepped over to the side and out of sight. âThis war can wait a momentâ well, not really but off they go to the side like this whole thing was a big game and they needed a time out. âMy past is what makes my future, it maybe a sad future or a happy one. The pain of what happened will always weight in my heart..but it molds a person to be better or worse and sometimes for the bestâ She brushed away any lingering tears her own welling in her brown hues, a very steady hand brushing through players iron red locks.
Alyssa inhaled nice and slow trying to be the grip between the two. Keep them steady before they broke. âIâm sorry Iâm talking nonsense about your friend, that is rude of me isnât it?â She hugged them tight enough not to crush themâŚtheyâre so smallâŚhurt and trying so hard. It almost broke the human but it was a relief to see someone so determined to protect the monsters, Even if in a way its for their own gain and sense of being needed fulfilled.Â
âThis is like a book to me. The way to explain it. Thereâs a start, middleâŚand end.. youâre currently at the beginning of this book.. rewriting it so that perhaps the ending would be better, I believe you will be able make it soâ Carefully Alyssa got onto one knee setting PLAYER back onto their feet, Alyssa cradling their shoulders in her hands âYouâre lasting here longer because each adventure has a slow start. The story yet to be told and so with you here in the beginning you might already be changing the ending of this tale.. or I think that is whats happening here⌠you just kept starting the book at the endingâ She rose to her full height giving Players head a pat.Â
The first thing she might note about PLAYER was just how incredibly light and frail they felt despite the power flowing through them. They hesitantly hug Alyssa back, hot tears still fresh in their eyes. This⌠this has been a long time coming.
âI⌠My life wasnât exactly the happiest before all this. I came here because I felt like I could actually make a difference. That I could fix things here rather than stew in a world where I felt powerless and would probably die before I was 20.â Given the trajectory that their life was headed on before all this, that was very likely as well.Â
If someone didnât put a hit on them for their hacking, they probably would have crossed a megacorp eventually. Not that any of that would mean much for someone like her. It would be tricky to put it into terms that would make sense for this world. Perhaps if she swapped megacorp with merchantâs guild?
That was besides the point. The both of them were having a bit of a moment here. They relaxed some at her words. âI⌠maybe I have.â They give a heavy sniff, wiping away their tears. âYou⌠remind me of someone who meant a lot to me. I almost forgot their words to me.â
âEven if this timeline should reject me⌠I can at least give you something. Hope. With what little power I have, I can do that much.â They open one of their coding windows. âMaybe youâre right. Iâm still a the start of my story and Iâve still got a ways to go on my path⌠But that doesnât mean I canât help you with yours.â
It seems theyâve accepted that this is a timeline they would be able to stay in⌠but⌠With some quick work, they code together an object which flickers into existence at their fingertips, and present it to Alyssa. It resembles a savepoint forged from crystallized light, but itâs something else entirely. âWhen the time is right, youâll know what to do with this⌠and remember these words a friend once told me⌠Thereâs no such thing as limits. Thereâs no such thing as absolutes.â With that done, being removed from this timeline is now a matter of when, not if. Yet PLAYER feels no regrets.
Alyssa grinned, realizing one of them needed to be the one to at least keep their cool. "I will make sure you find your end..it will be here with us...with the monsters..it is what you want...what you will! Your will is strong" Alyssa let them go carefully setting them back onto their feet giving their head one last comforting pat. Seemingly it seems the human knight has some new goals. Protect the hacker...they are apart of this now. âKnow I am willing to fall for you..I know its not what you want to hear but you are a monster...in your own rightâ Meaning one of us..Â
Seeing the gem before her Alyssa slowly reached out for it. âIf you trust me with something like this-â Â The moment her finger tips touched the new codding the world seemed to freeze. The Knights body shuddering like a program glitching and trying to reset. Her body fazing from a clean unharmed version of herself to a version where her armor was pierced by arrows a shattered green and red soul laying on the ground dying slowly as its life drained before them. Alyssas brown orbs cold and held death her body frozen shaking ever so slightly. The knights image changing from a living grinning Alyssa to the grim future of herself.Â
A dark creature sad behind her their skeletal fingers on her shoulders gripping the red cloth around her shoulders tightly, their long fingers curling and tugging gently -almost demanding not for her to reach and grab it.Â
"This...is..not- âĄâđâź đââźâšđ "  "Not theirs to cho-ooose- âââââź ââââ" "Not yours...." âââ âđ§ đââšđ âââźââ
The words were cut off the voice sounding distant and around them.Black thick ooze started to dribble from Alyssa mouth her cold eyes strained on PLAYER their free hand gripping onto their shirt, empty eyes glanced over her shoulder.Â
âââźâĄ ââ đ ââźâĄ ââ đ ââźâĄ ââ đ ââźâĄđŹđŹđŹâ âđ§ââđąâ âđ§âopâ âStopâ
The world went black for a moment almost as if the lights went off the only light being the save fragment before the light switch turned back on, the figure behind her fading away staring directly at PLAYER before coming nothing but a voice drifting along with the howling wind.
Alyssa shook and sputtered before that nasty version of returned to the smiling weepy version. âthen you must truly trust meâ She continued on with her original sentence before standing up holding it in her palms. âAmazingâ She let go of Players shirt giving their shoulder a pat almost like none of that happened. But her eyes darted away a moment shaking her head.Â
I gave up on this some where but heâs done-

Grillby paused momentarily at his young soldierâs inquiry, he knew he very well could have killed every last human there. His soul told him to burn them all alive for even being in his presence, and for all the suffering monsters have faced by their hands. Single handedly, he knew he could do it, humans were very fragile anyway. But he stilled his blade, his flames, his mind the moment he stepped foot in the human encampment. There werenât any civilians, no children, no need for this mercy. Yet he showed it, even bothered to offer it as a means to reclaim their stolen kind - yes he did include Alyssa in that count. So for the young soldier, he could not give a straight answer to that question, for he truly did not know why he showed such mercy to monsters. âItâs not wrong, soldier. War is never as black, and white as we would like it to be. We find ourselves doing or saying things that otherwise wouldnât reflect ourselves. Mercy is a double edged sword iâm afraid, up to this point Iâve sworn humans would never do the same. They would rather run their blades through us than to consider us alive, or full of anything but sheer hideous natures.â Another pause came to the general as he pondered his next words very breifly. âHumans, theyâve become more erratic during this war. Asgore wishes to strike a peace treaty with them rather than to terminate every last one of them, he still believes they reflect the same as us. Love, the ability to show mercy. Iâve always been against the idea ever since I joined Asgoreâs army, but then you stumbled into our encampment.â For a second, the quickest of one Grillby had breifly smiled if not fondly for that matter. âI was ready to eliminate you on the spot, had Asgore not interfered. He showed mercy, and I had to stand down. But Iâve found since that moment youâve been a type of influence on the monsters here, a better example of a human who is alive, full of love, full of  literal burning passion and angry but rightfully so indeed.â He went to speak, but by the time he found the words she was gone. Grillby didnât know how to comfort someone, well beyond a small pep talk about war that is. His focus was strictly on the war first and foremost, he couldnât be distracted with feelings of sympathy or empathy for those around him, his life was dedicated to his king, and his subjects to serve and protect. He found himself time to ponder those thoughts as he lay sleepless on his bedroll, his eyes tracing the lining of his tent as he attempted to sleep. That well he couldnât say night as the raid only happened hours ago, was no different as he finally made it back to his sleeping quarters. Climbing on top of the assorted furs and linens, his mind wondered to the events that transpired. His mind had wondered to Alyssa, to all the monsters held within the camp, and what horrors likely took place. His queen was unharmed surprisingly, a few of the other monsters were definitely roughed up. And Alyssaâs eyes betrayed what emotion she was feeling at the time, anger indeed but from what Grillby took from it all⌠fear. Closing his eyes he uttered a soft sigh, he really should attempt to get some sort of sleep, from the sky outside he only had a few hours before they would all need to move once again. He felt somewhat secure in the extra guards he had stationed around the entire camp, yet still there was always a weak chain that would end up with catastrophic consequences. For now, though sleep.Â
Alyssa gave him a look when he echoed her words back onto her. Snorting as she kept on but her cheeks reddened against her facial features. That wasn't fair to throw her own words back nor was it fair for her to walk off like a child during a temper tantrum. It was rude of her to do so she even almost came back to apologize but seeing as be began to walk away she didn't bother. Alyssa can always talk him in the morning.
Once she reached where she would lay she kept her metal close and sword closer. So much as to keep her sword in bed with her..sheathed of course. At first she lay there thinking of each event that's taken place since she's joined the monsters and their will, how many times have Alyssa come close to perishing now? Three? Arrows in her body, almost throwing herself off a cliff with the enemy just so the fire monster would not fall to the attack or get hurt. . Although the sword would of surely melted before causing any real damage, but honestly she didn't know if that was the case. ..she still dove and saved him. Then being tied up... And how many times has her general come to her aid? Perhaps to many and each time she was thankful but she really needed to step up her game.Â
With a heavy sigh Alyssa allowed her eyes to flutter shut. The last day and a half tiring her out and immediately sleep took her. The moment any monster stirred she would wake and wait before falling asleep again. The day had come she was the first to rise before many. Throwing her wears on and strutting outside, helping smaller monsters move armory or supplies about. For someone who slept so little the human moved with a quick pace looking over her shoulder and at the trees for long periods of time. Each little noise and snap of a twig made her pause. A deer that had run past almost slain the moment it burst from the bushes, lucky the human realized what it was and let it go. Alyssa even kept close, usually keeping off to the side letting the monsters do their own thing with out her or feel comfortable that she wasnât so close.. now she stayed near as she could with out causing trouble or bothering anyone. Grillby mentioning the peace treaty the king wanted to have between human and monsters did how ever keep on her mind. How? How the hell would that work? Humans started this. âIf they wanted peace, they wouldnât of started this whole fucking warâ she grumbled to no one. Her thoughts becoming uncontrolled words.Â
Far from home
sharpshooteralâ:
She listened taking in what they had to say. Games? Players? Different realities? It didnât make much sense to Alyssa. But what did she expect? They poured their heart and truth to her and that was all she needed to hear. With a low chuckle âAlright good enough forâ she stepped forward glancing back at them a brow raising at them.
"life isnât meant to be easy..trust me, I-I know. But you must remember⌠What you change here In the past could change someone elseâs future and it might not even be the person youâre trying to protect that youâre chang-â she stopped mid sentence staring quietly at them her heart picking up with new thoughtsâŚgreedy thoughts. Squeezing her eyes shut as she turned away from Player. âSorry I.. lost my thought thereâ Clearing her throat the soldier straighten out gripping her the handle of her blade tight. âI canât speak for youâŚor for who this person you wish to save it.. but i wish I could do the sameâŚ.go back, change my past and hope for a better futureâ Inhaling a shuttering breath Alyssa squared her shoulders before giving a snort.
âFrom what you say, itâs me who isnât even real, soâŚI guess it gives me a really fucked up sense of reliefâŚthat my son isnât really dead because he never existedâ That sounded crazy, Sheâs had to be going crazy she has to be.Or she must already be dead and this being, this PLAYER. Must be just a lost soul themselves leading a broken knight around a familiar battle field. Or it is all real either way all Alyssa could do now is accept this. âHave you, ever decided to stay with them? Perhaps forcing their freedom might be the reason this greater thing keeps pushing you awayâ
âI know⌠and I know I probably canât save everyone. I couldnât live with myself if I didnât try though.â PLAYER was given pause at considering her own desire to change her past laid out. âYou know, where iâm from thereâs a tale of a weapon that can give itâs wielder the chance to kill their past. If we make it through this, might not be a bad idea to seek your own âblade that can kill the pastâ. Your worldâs full of so many amazing things, something like thatâs bound to exist.â
PLAYER wasnât sure if they were giving her false hope or not, but hope is still hope. And if she succeeded⌠all the better. In a few words, the world and fate could kiss PLAYERâs ass. They were sick of those two things hurting the people the young hacker found themselves caring about. That in mind, they froze up entirely at her next words.
âAlyssa, between the two of us I could argue that you are undoubtedly the most real one here. You have actual stakes that matter. The consequences of your actions hold real weight. Me? I canât even die properly even if I wanted to.â They understandably donât deign to elaborate on how they know that âlovelyâ detail.Â
âWhat I am or am not doesnât invalidate your existence or your struggles. You matter. In the grand scheme of things, you matter. So donât talk that way about yourself, because thatâs my friend youâre talking about.â Tears well up in their eyes at that. âReal⌠not real⌠who the hell even CARES?!â They honestly want to throw something right now or scream until their lungs burst. If they werenât in the middle of a battlefield, theyâd even settle for hugging the human warrior until they cried themself to sleep.
âS-shit. Now iâm crying. Fuck.â They mentally slap themself for swearing so freely. Toriel would be judging them so damn hard for it. After a bit they manage to get a hold of themself, sniffing deeply as they wipe away the trailing tears and finally process Alyssaâs question. âI tried that a few times⌠just sitting back and letting Frisk fall and do all the stuff that would lead to the barrier breaking eventually anyways. It all went well enough for a time. Even got to see the surface⌠for all of 5 minutes. The world still rejected me. This is honestly the longest Iâve ever been up here.â
"This war can wait a moment" well, not really but off they go to the side like this whole thing was a big game and they needed a time out. "My past is what makes my future, it maybe a sad future or a happy one. The pain of what happened will always weight in my heart..but it molds a person to be better or worse and sometimes for the best" She brushed away any lingering tears her own welling in her brown hues, a very steady hand brushing through players iron red locks.
Alyssa inhaled nice and slow trying to be the grip between the two. Keep them steady before they broke. "I'm sorry I'm talking nonsense about your friend, that is rude of me isn't it?" She hugged them tight enough not to crush them...they're so small...hurt and trying so hard. It almost broke the human but it was a relief to see someone so determined to protect the monsters, Even if in a way its for their own gain and sense of being needed fulfilled.Â
"This is like a book to me. The way to explain it. There's a start, middle...and end.. you're currently at the beginning of this book.. rewriting it so that perhaps the ending would be better, I believe you will be able make it soâ Carefully Alyssa got onto one knee setting PLAYER back onto their feet, Alyssa cradling their shoulders in her hands âYouâre lasting here longer because each adventure has a slow start. The story yet to be told and so with you here in the beginning you might already be changing the ending of this tale.. or I think that is whats happening here... you just kept starting the book at the endingâ She rose to her full height giving Players head a pat.Â
