learco /  freedomjudge:
the task for the day had been to scrounge for more seeds. it did seem a bit random, and he supposed that others have probably sought the same goal, but it wasnât that high a priority in many othersâ lists. thatâs what he told himself. make it feel like he had a chance. because, honestly, it was surprisingly difficult to acquire enough seeds to make produce of them.
but he underestimated it all, and now found himself seeking refuge for the moment. he had only brought BONES with him, his german shepherd seeing-eye dog, and his only duty was to watch out for learco. he couldnât sniff out the supplies he wanted, could only do so well at alerting him to the dead, and never thought much of those were alive unless it was learco who told him to attack. which, learco himself couldnât easily do if he hadnât known they were there. it made him vulnerable.
and he was. because walking through town had awoken quite a few shackling walkers, and he didnât think he could take that many on at once. sure, he had his spiked bat, but his aim wasnât true due to his sight, and he couldnât fend them all off at once while making sure his one and only best friend didnât go down as well. he had seen some of his other trained dogs lose the fight to walkers, but didnât think he could live another day if he lost bones.
cue punching random codes into a warehouse he thought he could hide in. that was, until he heard a voice. the kennel master spun about, wide eyes trying to focus on the source. it was some guy, who didnât seem to be holding a gun to his face, so that was good news. still, he held his weapon in both hands for a moment longer, then slowly lowered it. bones brushed his leg.
â sorry, â he panted. he moved his head about, peripheral vision even worse, to make sure that no walkers had shown up around them yet. â i was just trying to find someplace safe. i canât fight too many biters at once. i hate to ask you of this but ââ can i please come inside? at least until the dead are gone. then iâll be on my way. i donât like to be a BURDEN. â never has, never will.
animals donât scare him, which is why the dog doesnât make sint run the other way. he probably should have, but he doesnât because he figures this intruder must be harmless if the dog hasnât attacked just yet. perhaps sint is too trusting, too easily tricked into doing what others want, but he doesnât care. if he dies because of trusting someone he shouldnât, then so be it. itâs not like living in the world after an apocalypse is something worth fighting for.
another dead giveaway of harmlessness was the lowering of the weapon. he doesnât carry one of his own, so heâs completely defenseless. after all, the boy doesnât stray far from his home at all ââ thatâs his weapon, his warehouse. itâs wired so intricately and carefully that it serves as an actual safe house. a panic room, as one might call it. but, itâs just a panic ... building ?Â
eyes scan the stranger for just another moment before his attention shifts to their surroundings. as far as he can see, there arenât any of the infected dragging around, which could have been a sign the guy was lying, but sint just assumes that most people can outrun them to a certain extent. â  ââ sure. â shrug lifts weighted shoulders, body pulling forward before heâs brushing past the stranger and punching in the code heâd memorized the second he came up with it. pushing the door open, sint just tossed his bag aside. heâs seemingly unbothered by the potential threat of an approaching zombie infestation. his warehouse is safe. itâs protected. Â
â  what are you doinâ out here ? â small talk is essential to him, feeding into his poor sociability and proving that heâs capable of at least some conversation. hand pushes the metal door shut again, eyes scanning the system against the wall before he arms it again. several loud clicks and a decently long beep later, he backs away and makes himself at home, slouching into one of the rolling chairs set up in front of one of his desks.  â  youâre not gonna kill me or anything, right ? â
