What I can say without going too deep into the subject, is that in the 18th century, Armand as an Indian man would've been subjected to racist ignorance, perceiving him as "effeminate" yet desirable, and likely a mix of objectification/fetishization (orientalism), as well as perceiving him as Romani, like Nicki has, as he calls him the g-slur. I wouldn't be surprised if Armand got frequently taken for Romani, as Romani people are a diasporic community more present in 18th century Europe than Indians were.
