push yourself to get up before the rest of the world - start with 7am, then 6am, then 5:30am. go to the nearest hill with a big coat and a scarf and watch the sun rise.
push yourself to fall asleep earlier - start with 11pm, then 10pm, then 9pm. wake up in the morning feeling re-energized and comfortable.
get into the habit of cooking yourself a beautiful breakfast. fry tomatoes and mushrooms in real butter and garlic, fry an egg, slice up a fresh avocado and squirt way too much lemon on it. sit and eat it and do nothing else.
stretch. start by reaching for the sky as hard as you can, then trying to touch your toes. roll your head. stretch your fingers. stretch everything.
buy a 1L water bottle. start with pushing yourself to drink the whole thing in a day, then try drinking it twice.
buy a beautiful diary and a beautiful black pen. write down everything you do, including dinner dates, appointments, assignments, coffees, what you need to do that day. no detail is too small.
strip your bed of your sheets and empty your underwear draw into the washing machine. put a massive scoop of scented fabric softener in there and wash. make your bed in full.
organise your room. fold all your clothes (and bag what you donât want), clean your mirror, your laptop, vacuum the floor. light a beautiful candle.
have a luxurious shower with your favourite music playing. wash your hair, scrub your body, brush your teeth. lather your whole body in moisturiser, get familiar with the part between your toes, your inner thighs, the back of your neck.
push yourself to go for a walk. take your headphones, go to the beach and walk. smile at strangers walking the other way and be surprised how many smile back. bring your dog and observe the dogâs behaviour. realise you can learn from your dog.
message old friends with personal jokes. reminisce. suggest a catch up soon, even if you donât follow through. push yourself to follow through.
think long and hard about what interests you. crime? sex? boarding school? long-forgotten romance etiquette? find a book about it and read it. there is a book about literally everything.
become the person you would ideally fall in love with. let cars merge into your lane when driving. pay double for parking tickets and leave a second one in the machine. stick your tongue out at babies. compliment people on their cute clothes. challenge yourself to not ridicule anyone for a whole day. then two. then a week. walk with a straight posture. look people in the eye. ask people about their story. talk to acquaintances so they become friends.
lie in the sunshine. daydream about the life you would lead if failure wasnât a thing. open your eyes. take small steps to make it happen for you.
This is all really good advice for dealing with long term depression and anxiety. Itâs not gonna magically cure you, but Iâve pushed myself to incorporate a few of these things into my day to day routine and it helps
Habits of successful students
Discipline: âdiscipline is doing what needs to be done, even when you donât want toâ, which means that you have to force yourself to start doing things.Â
Concentration: when you make a real effort in your work (study, homeworks etcâŚ) you will be more likely to actually focus, understand and learn.Â
Organization: always set tasks and goals and organize a study-schedule. Maybe you donât really want to plan all the week, but if you just wake up and open your agenda/bullet journal/iphone calendar and write down all the things you have to do, setting due dates and deadlines, youâll feel more conscious and encouraged to stay on track.Â
Tasks-splitting: sometimes, you write down your tasks. Some of these tasks may be very hard and complicated, and it will take a long long time to complete them. So, you can split them in smaller tasks, so you will feel satisfied after a shorter period of time, instead of studying for hours and still seeing that chapter undone on your study-schedule.Â
Watch the sunrise: when I wake up late, I feel like I donât have enought time to do my work and lose my motivation. I literally panic and then I think âwhatever, I could not complete all the things anywayâ. So, if you wake up earlier you will feel more positive and  controlled.Â
Smart reading: try not to read your textbook just like a newspaper. For every paragraph you read, try to underline and write down key words and then your question about that subject. Literally, turn your textbook into questions. If you write down question - particularly whyâŚ? - and think about the answer, you will be more likely to remember that stuff later.Â
Healthy lifestile: if you donât drink enough water in the morning, you will be more likely to have a decrease of concentration in the afternoon/evening, so: stay hydrated. Try also to have some snaks every one-two hours: feed your brain.Â

it takes years to develop your craft. do not romanticize the idea of an âovernight successâ. be a student. grow organically. get really good. hate your work. start over. find new ways to express the same ideas. the student becomes the master. your time will come.
tag yourself~
tulip-Â broke af, unhealthy binge watching, study groups, laughs at their own jokes, stressed 24/7, just wants to have a good time
rose-Â very thoughtful, has a sweet tooth, gives a lot of compliments, messy room, forgets things easily, stares at strangersâ dogs
sunflower- takes too many naps, spontaneous personality, almost always listening to music, good at solving problems, too many apps
daisy-Â bad at time management, easy to get along with, cares about the environment, has unpopular opinions, types quickly
lavender-Â sarcastic voice, seems normal but is actually really weird, good at lightening the mood, bad eyesight, enjoys being alone
I am such an Autumn person. Give me a quiet, cozy spot with a view of the changing trees on a crisp, late September day with a warm drink and a good book and I will be in all my glory.
youâve gotta stat romanticizing your life. you gotta start believing that your morning commute is cute and fun, that every cup of coffee is the best youâve ever had, that even the smallest and most mundane things are exciting and new. you have to, because thatâs when you start truly living. thatâs when you look forward to every day.Â
A reminder for the girls with big plans
To all the girls with big dreams, who have been told that they are âtoo preoccupied with successâ, or that they are âtoo selfishâ or âtoo ambitiousâ - do not listen to the people who speak those words. If you love something that much, and will pursue it to the ends of the earth, do not give it up for anyone. Hold it close to your heart and understand that you are not obligated to dim your sparkle for anybody. In your life, there will always be people who tell you that you are too much or too little. They will say a woman is too assertive, or too reserved. They will say she feels too little or too much, that ambition is selfish. They may even be hurt or offended that you do not think the same. Yet at the end of the day, know in your heart that you are the only one who will ever know whether you are truly enough and that is whatâs important. Go out there and smash the glass ceiling to pieces.

âDestroy the idea that you have to be constantly working or grinding in order to be successful. Embrace the concept that rest, recovery, and reflection are essential parts of the progress towards a successful and ultimately happy life.â

Grad school hacks #009
Schedule one complete day off per week to recover. Grad school is a marathon, not a sprint.Â
tag your morning vibe
mornings things;
rosy sunlight: waking up unexpectedly early, enjoying the peaceful silent, laying in bed and just thinking, messy buns, the calm before the storm, deciphering your dreams, peach tones
hot coffee: productivity, writing in a journal or diary, planning out your day, a high ponytail, buying breakfast, newspapers, the smell of fresh coffee beans
cereal bowl: having something sweet for breakfast, walking your dog, morning shower, bubbly laughter, hopefulness, counting down to the weekend
alarm clock: waking up late, no makeup, coffee to wake you up, cold feet, falling back asleep when thereâs a moment, cloudy skies, heavy eyelids
breakfast pastry: the bustling of a large family, staying in your pyjamas, morning radio, grocery shopping, waiting for the post, no responsibilities
