Also, sorry, taking aside the fact that the status of the USA as both founded as a “colony” and in turn, being a “colonizer”–out of literally thousands of ways you could have described Canada is “like the US but with more immigrants”?
Never mind the sheer size of the US and its immigrant population, what in the world would you compel to say that. Say that to me, a Filipino? From the country of Philippines, the country who has a LARGE population of emigrants and Overseas Filipino Workers.
I’m not sorry but boy I sure can’t take that statement as anything but somehow implying that immigrants are Bad
If anybody is looking for a symphatizer of Immigrants Are Bad And Taking Are Jobs: not only are you fucking wrong and terrible I’m the last person you should be talking to
Ah, my mistake! I’m very sorry. I should have been clearer, and I should have been much more careful. In Canada, “immigrant” is not a bad word.
I meant that as a percentage of the overall population, Canada has many more immigrants than the United States. I believe the percentage of Canadians born outside of Canada is one of the highest in the world. Due to this and other factors, the “Immigrants Are Bad And Are Taking Our Jobs” narrative is much weaker here.
Canada has a very low birthrate. It’s something like 1.2 children per couple. But thanks to immigration, our population numbers are healthy and the country continues to grow every year. As you can see from the above graphic, Canada has a strong connection to the Philippines. Honestly, I was much more surprised to see how many people are moving here from the UK. I know plenty of Filipinos, but I’ve only ever met a few people who moved here from the UK.
In conclusion, I’m sorry for speaking so carelessly, and I’m sorry we live in a world where moving from one country to another is so widely regarded as a bad thing.
