not my tweet or my fic (and thereβs a good chance of this comment being a bot) but yeah, donβt do this. sure, some writers wouldnβt mind having fanfics (or direct continuation) of their fanfics written by someone else. some may even be thrilled and happy. but the fandom etiquette is that if you want to write a fanfic or a continuation of someoneβs fanfic, YOU POLITELY ASK THE WRITER FOR THEIR PERMISSION. not their readers.
also 5 months isnβt long at all. 5 months is 5 minutes when it comes to fanfics. Iβve waited years for my favorite fics to get updated (one of my favorite fanfics was updated by the author after 13 years) and Iβve never said anything to them about βitβs been ___ years, I donβt think it will get updated anymoreβ. because another fandom / fanfic etiquette is that fanfic writers write for free in their free time, they donβt owe you anything. maybe they will update one day. maybe they wonβt. if you want your favorite fic to get updated, you comment something like βthis is good!! Iβm excited for what happens nextβ and maybe your positive comment will motivate the author to update. but you donβt say βitβs been ___ months or yearsβ. fanfics writers write for themselves and their own enjoyment. theyβre just kind enough to let you read their works for free. stop being rude and entitled to fanfic writers.
I agree 1000%. I'm convinced some of y'alls readers don't have patience or realize that authors have actual lives to live. They are volunteering their time and skill to make these stories. This is a passion project not a main job. I have waited YEARS for some fanfic writers to update. I'm going to wait because that is their work. That is their own creativity in word form of a story of their care deeply about. It is not up to the readers to the side whether it gets remade or continued is up to the author. Some authors just abandoned their work because they're not feeling the vibe or they just don't want to continue writing and that's fine. Y'all need to accept that. That's just it. I don't want to hear complaints. I don't want to hear this or that unless the author is being a genuine jackass. You leave them alone because it is THEIR STORY. They put their hard work into and passion into. YOU DON'T GET AN OPINION IN THIS. Like no. Y'all just need to have some patience they have things going on and if they don't continue the story you can ask them if you want to continue it on their behalf but that's not a decision for the readers. This is not a democracy. It is a dictatorship and they get to dictate how they want their work to be not you. keep it pushing.
