Prompt 44: “I’ll drive you to the hospital.”
“What were you thinking?” Dark snarled the words, black blood bubbling at his lips. He clutched at the knife in his chest as he stumbled backward and fell against the wall, sliding down to the floor with a grimace. “What the fuck, Anti?”
“You scared me!” Anti spat, his form fuzzy and rippling. He blinked in and out of existence, searing the air with ozone as he hopped from Dark’s right side to his left several times before gathering himself enough to sink to a crouch. “Don’t barge in like that, and you won’t get stabbed!”
Dark coughed, spraying blood down the front of his once-immaculate, white suit jacket. “You knew I was coming!” He spluttered, palming clumsily at the knife. “Get the damn knife out.”
“You don’t wanna do that. You’ll bleed out.” Anti flicked the protruding handle, drawing a hiss of pain. “How ‘bout I drive you to the hospital instead? You can scare the nurses and tell ‘em how you were being an idiot.”
Dark didn’t grace him with a reply. Instead, he wrapped one hand around the handle of the knife and, with one jerky movement, ripped it from his body and tossed it aside, where it clattered to the floor and disappeared in a flash of green static. No blood gushed forth from the puckered hole, and he didn’t spontaneously die. Instead, Dark stood, wiping the gore from his mouth and chin, much to Anti’s shock and chagrin.
“What the fuck-- what the hell is wrong with you?” He demanded, rising to his feet, puffing out his chest, and jabbing Dark in the ribs with a well-aimed finger, as if doing so would cause answers to spew forth.
“I wish I knew,” Dark retorted, adjusting his ruined suit. “I only inhabit this body. I don’t know how it works.”
Anti barked out a laugh, short and skeptical. “I need some coffee to deal with this shit.”
Dark nodded sagely. “You and me, both.”
