A Kalim-centric fanfiction, featuring Riddle and Ruggie. (Slight KaliRuggie, but only a bit!)
This will also be crossposted on AO3!
The overcast sky hung heavy over Kalim as if resonating with his heart, reading his mind. Of course, realistically it is only a coincidence that he feels so awful at the same time the weather is dreary. Had it been a normal day, he would have felt happy in such weather. He throws a glance over his shoulder yet he sees no one. He sighs sullenly. Everyone had most likely entered the school, preferring to take shelter rather than to be drenched under heavy rain.
Kalim searches for a bench to sit on, and finds one in a perfect place under a lamplight. It will not shield him from the upcoming rain, but it is a good enough place for him to have some time to himself.
(But something inside of him yearns for someone to reach out at their own behest and not out of obligation.)
His headscarf is slightly skewered, and he can feel it slipping slowly. He feels like an outsider as it continues to undo itself, falling into his waiting arms. Itās dumb, out of everything he could cry about, is this what does it? An imperfect knot?
Kalim breathes out a small breath, gripping the headscarf tight in his palms. This is stupid, he has everything he could want for in this life. Why is he feeling like the world is crumbling around him? He had been perfectly fine before.
(He chooses to turn a blind eye to the cracks forming around him. Perhaps his world crumbling was to be expected, when all heās done is try to ignore it rather than face it.)
He pulls his knees to his chest and hides his face from the world. The breeze is picking up and the leaves are falling from trees, and he can smell the scent of rain carried by the wind. Even so, he stays put, his emotions brimming beneath his skin. He wonders if anyone will come for him, if even just to find him before class. Or will he spend some more time being berated by Jamil for his carelessness, the words cutting him now that he knows it does not come from the words of a concerned friend ā rather the worry of a servant that is not doing his job well.
His breathing is uneven, wavering. But he still has to keep it together, only until the rain comes. When it does, no one will be able to tell apart whether the wetness on his face came from the rain or his own eyes. All he has to do is hold it in. After all these years, it is the thing he does best.
But then he hears footsteps, slowing to a step when he can tell the person is directly across him. He stays put, not wanting this random person to gain the satisfaction of seeing the usually cheerful Asim heir on the brink of breaking down ā if thatās the personās goal, anyways.
āKalim, why are you still out? I donāt suppose youāre that blind to not notice the bleak weather,ā a familiar voice says, void of the usual disapproving tone.
Kalim pauses, before looking up and facing Riddleās concerned gaze.
And, oh, does he feel the tears well up some more.
Riddle blinks, before a slight look of panic washes over his face. Itās slightly funny, and made Kalim feel a tad bit better. He wipes his eyes, trying to muster a smile that he knows looks timid and small.
āHeya, Riddle!ā he says in a voice he hopes is good enough, though from the furrow of Riddleās eyebrows, it definitely isnāt. āYou didnāt have to bother finding me, ya know? And I like the cool weather!ā
Riddleās mouth is set in a taut frown the more Kalim speaks, which he decidedly thinks is not a good thing.
āRuggie was the one who asked where you were. I was under the impression that Jamil was with you, but then I saw him with the twins, no you in sight.ā
His eyes then soften.
āYouāreā¦ a dear friend, Kalim,ā he says, as if these words of confirmation didnāt make Kalimās breath hitch. āOf course I would, for I know youād do the same for me. Besides, Ruggie was the one who insisted that we find you. Something about how you owe him food.ā
A wet laugh escapes him, and Riddleās gaze feels lighter. He reaches a hand towards Kalim, who stares at it for a moment. He feels like a scared stray being coaxed, but Riddle is patient, and Kalim takes the offered hand. He can feel Riddle stop for a moment, before taking his other hand to place upon Kalimās.
Riddle gives Kalim a smile, and it is reassuring enough that it makes his hands stop trembling. Riddle gives a small squeeze, before he guides Kalim back into the cafeteria.
ā¦ . ćāŗ ć . ā¦ . ćāŗ ć . ā¦
Kalim does not feel any better, even though he is in the company of dear friends. He is sitting beside Riddle, and across him is Ruggie. The two are having a heated debate onā¦ something. Honestly, Kalim hadnāt been paying attention. When Riddle dragged him back to the cafeteria, Ruggie had practically hopped towards them, reminding Kalim of how he owed him food. Riddle had stared disapprovingly, ready to oppose, but Kalim had just laughed and agreed.
Now, he lays his head on the table as he watches the two continue on talking, with Riddle sending occasional glances towards him. It feels refreshing, if heās being honest. Not having to carry the conversation to get rid of any awkwardness. He didnāt feel left out, either. But he still feels awful, his body feeling weak and tired.
Unconsciously, Kalim lays his hand on the table, close enough to reach out to Ruggie. The beastman stops briefly from where he was talking, looking at the hand sprawled out and Kalimās exhausted face before resuming the conversation.
He should have known that an argument in the morning would affect his whole day. He didnāt blame Jamil for it ā not for anything, but he still feels like he went through the seven pits of the Underworld.
All of a sudden, he feels warmth on his fingers. Kalim blinks, and he sees that Ruggie has chosen to intertwine their fingers together. He blinks some more as he watches, as if one small movement would make Ruggie pull away.
But he didnāt do that. Ruggie notices Kalimās confused stare, and sends him a mischievous grin before casually turning back to Riddle.
Ruggieās fingers were warm as they tapped a pattern on Kalimās fingers. The touch is soft, more tender than he can imagine. Stupidly, Kalim feels like crying all over again. He can feel his hands tremble, but Ruggie doesnāt let go.
Instead, he chooses to trace around Kalimās palm, their fingers still joined. He does not mention it, nor does Riddle, and Kalim feels like heās being blanketed by a warmth long forgotten. It reminds him of times after a failed assassination attempt or kidnapping, where he was still young enough that his mother would still comfort him gently.
Silently, he buries his face in the crook of his other elbow, the tears springing out the corner of his eyes. His shoulders quiver, but the two do not bring it up. Ruggie still traces light patterns on his palm, and he can feel Riddle giving a small pat on his head, carding his fingers through his hair before taking away his hand.
Kalim is exhausted. But Ruggie doesnāt let go and Riddle doesnāt leave. Theyāre both staying, and he feels too exhausted to stay awake any longer.
For now, he will let their voices carry him to sleep, let himself bask in the warmth they provide.
And one day, he will be able to share the weight of his own world with others that are willing.
His eyes slowly shut, teardrops still escaping his eyes, but he feels lighter than ever.
Iāve always adored the Light Mage Trio! And I so dearly adore Alien Stage, no matter how much suffering it bringsā¦ so why not mix those two together!

just a silly little ramble, but i like the idea of luke ā despite everything, still being the least likely to fall
itās a totally different idea from the me fromā¦ what, four years ago? i havenāt the time to search for whatever headcanons or theories i made (which, by the way, i love my era of luke being lilithās son but that idea has to be revamped in more ways than one)
but imagine this.
luke, who has been shown of the betrayal of what he thought was holiness being rotten. of the principles that the celestial realm upholds being turned against them. seeing simeon, whoās no longer an angel, even though he was the best angel luke has ever known. the demon brothers ā falling for love, caught in the crossfire just to defend their sisterās honour. seeing raphael, harbouring doubts of the very things instilled in them the moment they were blessed to come to creation.
and luke?
heād rather damn himself then to let this cycle continue on. whatās the point of seeing angels fall, time and time again, without any change? what change can they do in the devildom? they can plot however much they like, but it doesnāt change the fact that the celestial realm is way out of their domain.
so heāll reform everything from behind-the-scenes.
i think a lot of people set this aside, but it has been mentioned multiple times that luke is a powerful angel, even though he is still considered āyoungā.
(even if heās older than satan?!?!?!?!)
i wonāt disregard the idea of lukeās own faith being broken. who wouldnāt, if all heās ever known was the Father who raised him? would anyone not feel even the tiniest bit of being forsaken, when he sees the flaws of the very one he held in the highest regard, whose words he listened to and whose teachings he followed blindly.
but, was it always like this? maybe so, maybe not. but there was once a time where they lacked such constrictions. there was a time when their wings meant something, to soar freely and to spread ā not the words, but the blessings bestowed upon them to guide humans. there was a time when the angels did not spend half their time repenting at the foot of a statue, knees raw and tender but never bleeding.
his guilt is heavy when he ponders, straying far away from the scriptures that heās been taught. but then he wonders some more. can the weight of his guilt really compare to the chains and shackles that the celestial realm was subjected to? was freedom not a fair price to pay?
he thinks and he thinks and he feels a sense resolve within him.
he has the power, he isnāt blind. heās adored by archangel michael (or, at the very least, held in high-esteem). he knows heās been blessed with a more potent ability, regardless of whether he was low-ranking or not.
he has felt his own mind crumble, back in the earlier days of the program, when he learns that the beliefs he had held on to had been wrong. that the demons heād been taught to held prejudice against were not all bad. he has even befriended so many in his time in rad. how could he still hate them?
how could he feel hatred, if he was an angel? he felt sick even thinking about his own contempt towards them.
so he makes a vow to himself.
he goes back to the celestial realm, after everything. he parts with simeon, no matter how much he dreads to. he parts with barbatos, with diavolo, with the rest of the brothers. yet he does not leave them, not really. he preseveres, even though the paradise he once placed his everything in is now crumbling at the seams. he carries their lessons, their memories alongside him, and swears to not let any others fall in the name of something that has been forbidden.
he is an angel. heāll be damned if he rids himself of that title without even rectifying it back to its true meaning. he pushes through his doubt clouding his mind, pushes through the thoughts of how he is undeserving of his wings.
(because habits cannot be broken overnight. he knows it will take a while for the shame to pass.)
heāll be the best fucking angel there was. heāll make sure to break the cycle, even if heās seen as a heretic. heāll make sure no other angels fall due to the shortcomings of seraphims, of their Father, of everything as a whole.
for if he doesnāt make then change, then who will?

im going to be so honest though im so sad johnlock isnāt even a large part of mtp ueueueueā¦.. iāve always loved sherlock holmes, all renditions of the story, but mtp ā as interesting as it is (louis!!!!!!!!), JUST DOESNāT FEEL RIGHT WITHOUT JOHNLOCK
sherliam and alcroft/mybert (i have no clue what their ship name is??) who are married, and louis whoās the only single one, which of course, he doesnāt mind at all. but his brothers do worry, and that extends to his brother-in-laws. they try their best to keep louis company, but he just waves them off and tells them to leave him be and enjoy themselves.
(after all, louis has never seen his brothers this happy, as if their puzzle had been solved with just the holmesā company. how disgusting, he thinks to himself petulantly.)
but william and albert just dote on louis, because letās be for real, thatās their BABY BRO and they do feel bad for leaving him alone, which just has louis exasperated. and he justā¦ shoos them off for their honeymoon, for them to not worry over him because theyāre married now! and william and albert are just like ( ;Ā“ - `;) (because, again, you cannot convince me otherwise that these two would not tear down the world for louis)
even mycroft and sherlock feel SLIGHTLY bad, only because of william and albertās own worries.
(sherlock tries to find men and women for louis, and he assumes that his type is somewhat similar to his brothers. that action has louis threatening to castrate him, so he immediately scurries off to a chuckling william)
but louis insists that the two couples go on, not needing to be hung up over him. itās not like heās going to wither away without their company. heāll make do with what he has.
so thatās what they do. they leave him be, and sherliam and alcroft go on with their respective lives.
and before they knew it, months had passed with their only form of communication was through letters (sans mycroft and louis, who see each other occasionally cause of work). every time louis sends a letter, it is long and full of warmth and love. but with his own work as āMā and his schedule packed, the letters are scarce.
and william and albert is like, āhey, itās been too long. i miss my baby bro :( !ā and they decide to visit him, dragging their husbands along with them.
(mycroft will be like ādo i really have to?ā and albert slow turns, giving him a smile that doesnāt reach his eyes, and mycroft shuts up immediately)
sherliam boards the train to head to london, and they meet up with alcroft whoās waiting for them. they decide to sneakily head to louisā house, hoping to catch him off-guard, if they were lucky enough. they stroll through london, calmer than theyāve ever been, in no rush whatsoever. when suddenly sherlock pauses, his eyes widen, and a hand goes to run through his own hair in shock. the other three are confused, their gaze following where sherlockās was focused on, and they too, are filled with shock.
now, this can go both ways. either SEBASTIAN!!! or john!!! iām going for john, now, because that was the original route i was heading to, but sebalouis has a special place in my heart. BUT!!! FOR THIS!!! IāM GOING FOR JOHN WATSON!!
surprise is all they can feel as their eyes land on louis, who looked slightly flustered, sitting across a grinning john at a cafe. louis seems to mumble something, looking away bashfully, while john ā instead of laughing, seem to soften, completely enamoured by the man in front of him. he says something back, inaudible to the quartet, and a small smille appears on louisā face. they paint the perfect of infatuation and ā gods above, love! though not bursting at the seams, visible for everyone to see. it is hesitant, from louisā side, but also patient, from john.
sherlock breaks the silent moment between the four of them, whisper-shouting, āthatāsā¦ thatās my best friend!? heās into men?!?!?!ā
the other three shushes him, and william drags sherlock away as they (not so subtly) run away from the cafe.
once theyāre far enough, they catch their breath. william and albertās minds are still reeling at the fact that louis, they baby brother, was clearly on a date with someone? scratch that, the fact that louis was clearly besotted with the doctor was enough shock!
āi guess his type really isnāt dark-haired folk at all. couldāve saved me some time searching for people ā ā
william just glances at sherlock, who immediately shuts up.
william and albert look at each other, and they think, āwas this how it was like when we were together with the holmesā?ā
(no, you both! to louis, it was a nightmare, because you both decided to drop the news at the same time! poor guy probably had a heart attack. one holmes was enough! not that he meant any disrespect to mycroftā¦)
āā¦at least he has better taste in men. iāve heard john is a charming lad,ā albert snorts, and the holmes brothers guffaw at the statement. william only smiles in agreement.
(inside, theyāre just A LITTLE peeved. they shouldāve been told! thatās their baby brother! they donāt even know EVERYTHING about dr. watson!)
