It’s the famous “talking to a cabbage scene”, so let me point out that Vilgefortz’s acknowledgement of Geralt’s wits comes after this exchange:

When suspicious, Geralt is a man of few words. He prefers to let the person talk themselves out until they spill out their true intentions. He does that to Nivellen in A Grain of Truth and he is doing that to Vilgefortz here. It sometimes backfires when people assume he is stupid and isn’t following the conversation, but Geralt takes great offense in that, especially because of the stereotype that all witchers are monstrous animals.

And what else Geralt is, besides smart, educated, and impressive? Sarcastic as fuck 😂
