garfield is one of the all time character designs he doesnt need anything else. "his comic strip isnt funny" whatever u get to look at garfield, one of the finest art achievements of the 20th century. jim davis deserves to coast by on merchandising because he drew a cartoon animal that beats the snot out of fucking mickey mouse
obviously this is only true within the current capitalism-art dynamic, in the future garfield will be collectivized and jim davis will be preserved in a giant mason jar of vinegar out of respect for his legacy
