Sif blog: fightandfury
[ For anyone who may be interested, I am moving to a new blog: fightandfury. My intention is to only write when I have the time and inclination and not to be pressured into it otherwise. Other than this, I won’t be promoting (at least for now).
Everyone is welcome to follow or not follow as they see fit. I may just be doing Pirate!AU there for awhile, so if anyone else besides Abilady and myself have been watching that thread, you know where to find us :]

"I think that when people look at me, and they look at my height and my voice and my coloring, they automatically think, ‘Tough.’"

He didn’t know what it was that hung in the air between them, but it was something that he thought he saw glimmering in her eyes. Something she clearly didn’t want to name. He decided he didn’t wish to dwell upon it either.
When her hand closed on his arm, he stiffened, his head snapping around to look down at her. His muscles coiled with all the practise of one used to combat as he looked down at her. It took him a long moment to realise what she presumed to ask of him and another long moment as he decided whether or not he would grant it to her. Unfortunately, she was correct. He was tired and it took only one more look into her face to convince him to relent.
Snuffing out the candles, he stretched himself out upon the bed, a wry smile twisting his lip. “Never let it be said I was not a magnanimous fellow when it suited me.”
Though she was admittedly inexperienced in the beds of men, she somehow understood the tension that she felt thrumming through his muscles. She knew, after a fashion, that she'd surprised him with her touch, and he had made ready to fight.
And then he remembered there was a harmless girl in his bed, and his eyes lost some of their hardness, the lines of his mouth softening as she watched. Careful as he must be to keep his expression under lock and key, Sioda didn't quite understand why she felt she knew what he was feeling.
It wasn't as though one joining had made a difference.
"I shall never let it be said," she replied, startled by the playfulness of her own voice, and relieved to find him laying down beside her after all. "Cruel and sneaky, but always magnanimous."
With minor effort, her body found a place against his, a comfortable fit in the blackness of the cabin. She could not see him as her cheek rested against his bare shoulder, but the scent of him (of them both) and the warmth of his body would escort her, happily, to her sleep.

"No," was his sharp answer, half turning from the window to cast a glance back at her, "they will not suspect. Remember what company you keep, girl. I am the Seasnake. The Seasnake is ruthless and cunning and cruel. The Seasnake is not one to take idle pleasures. The Seasnake whips boys bloody on a daily basis and laughs at their pain. No sounds of pleasure emanate from my door, only screams of pain and torment. Pleasure and pain are close enough that witless louts such as they will not be able to discern the difference. The only ones who will know are this room right now."
His green eyes raked over her, over the lithe lines of her legs and hips and breasts and over the striped of angry red pain upon her back. He shut the window firmly and snatched up his breeches, pulling them on but not bothering to lace them.
"But never mind that," he said, the steel gone from his voice as though it had never been there, replaced with velvet and silk as easily as the sea suddenly calms from a storm. "You must be tired, sweet. Sleep. If you expect to return to your duties, you will need your rest."
His finger tapped at her chin and he turned to make for his desk.
She thought he must know the contradiction of all that he said. Ruthless, cunning, cruel, he called himself. Incapable of doling out pleasure, or feeling anything so weak as affection or generosity or --
No. She wouldn't even think it, lest he see the word milling around in the honey-dregs of her eyes and accuse her.
This time, though, even the venom that laced his velvet voice did not provoke uncertainty in her. No anger or fear rose to meet him; she was too tired, too sore, and all together too content for any of that.
"No sounds of pleasure," she agreed at a murmur, her mouth taking on the hint of a wry smile. They both knew the falseness of that statement now, but he made to turn from her again. Her hand shot out before she had a chance to think, catching his forearm before he could flee completely.
"Even snakes need to rest," she stated plainly, unable to see how he could possibly be on the other end of the beating she'd withstood and the ensuing sexual encounter without being at least half as tired as she. And half as tired was plenty indeed. "I would share your bed, if you'll allow it."

He cleaned her carefully and softly, but efficiently. He had opened himself up to her, he knew, and he was cautious, wondering what she would make of his gentleness. With every moment that he considered the way he had made himself vulnerable to her, the line of his mouth hardened and his eyed closed off.
"My men will think whatever they wish," he said, "but will say nothing. They will not dare to. Many have been called to my quarters to be punished for misdeeds, but never overnight. They might wonder if you are my new form of entertainment. They whisper of my cruelty and taste for pain. Why not give them something more to whisper about? But if they ask of you what transpired in here or what you have done to warrant such a punishment, I trust you know to say nothing. Better if you told them I had forbidden you to speak of it."
He dipped the rag once more into the water, resuming his task after a moment’s pause, “But they will think many things. They will have heard your cries tonight as well as they heard your screams before. They will think me cruel and cold and merciless. As they should. They will fear me, they will whisper my name and my reputation will grow. But I care not.”
He scoffed, a tiny noise in the back of his throat and got to his feet, opening the cabin window to toss the water out. He placed the bowl on the rough table and stood for a moment, framed by the open window, the sea-breeze toying idly with his dark hair.
Sioda didn't consider that he was vulnerable -- perhaps it was a mark of her naivete that she did not, but instead considered how much he might have guessed of her past. That he should consider her at all was still a novelty, still sent an unfamiliar thrill through her.
She did not say a word while he spoke, but she felt the moment when he'd finished cleaning her many wounds. As he made to stand, she maneuvered herself onto her side, leaning up on one elbow with her head in her hand as her eyes followed his shadow over to the window. Her back was alive with pain again, but she stubbornly pressed it to the back of her mind and turned her focus to their conversation.
There was a pause between when he finished and she began, a pause in which she seemed to be studying him, scrutinizing in the darkness. To herself, she thought that he was indeed cold and merciless, and the men were wise to fear him.
But there was more than that. What more there was beneath the surface, Sioda did not yet know. Perhaps she would not be so lucky as to ever know him completely, but some intrigue in this time of secrecy and loneliness would not go amiss. She sought the answers.
"They will," she agreed, this statement serving as her acquiescence; she would do as he said, should anyone ask. But he did care, she thought, eyes narrowing slightly, tracing the shape of him in the starlight. They would not have the right of it, not entirely.
"But..." she began, and the shift in the conversation led doubt back into her breath. "If they heard, as you suspect -- " Frustrated, she sighed. Her words were so unpolished when she gave them so much thought. If he had a tongue of silver, she thought hers more akin to lead. "Will they suspect?"

Her hand reached for him and flopped onto the sheets of his bed, and he caught the glimmer of something unacceptable in her amber eyes. He set the bowl down harder than he originally intended, but this needed to be fixed.
Her movements were slow and sluggish and his hand snapped out to take her chin in his grip, forcing her face upwards so he could look at her. There was the faintest glimmer in the depths of her eyes of doubt and uncertainty. That would never do. He held her gaze for a long moment. A long moment in which the silence spun between them like a skein of wool being twisted into thread. His eyes stared deeply into hers, reading the hesitation in her heart. And then, slowly, sweetly, tenderly, he leaned in to press his lips to her forehead. He kissed her brow for a long moment, his hand smoothing her chopped hair, soothing her.
He was not one for emotion. He was not one for sentiment. He loathed it. But what he loathed even more was someone who did not appreciate the gifts that had been given them. He had awarded this woman a noble place in his bed and she doubted him, she doubted her worthiness. He would not have chosen her had she not been appealing to him.
He drew back and let her situate herself on her stomach, dipping the cloth into the water. Tenderly, he cleaned her wounds, being as gentle as he knew how to be, knowing she would hurt, but also knowing that if he did not clean them, they would become infested and cause her more pain. Every now and then, he paused to touch her hair or run his finger down her arm, little gestured every now and then to reassure her.
Fire returned itself to her gaze, rising to meet his demand of it. She was curious when he caught her chin; curious, not afraid, nor secretive, as she might have been some hours ago. Dark amber-brown searched the barely-green of his eyes, and the tension that had accumulated in her spine in the few moments since every muscle had seemed to unmake itself with her orgasm with the press of his lips to her brow.
Though neither of them had spoken a word to the other in quite some time, they were distinctly communicating. So it continued, their quiet understanding, as he gradually reawakened the stripes of fire that painted her back. She'd have fallen asleep beneath his gentle hands, had it not been for the sting.
You are not all hard edges, she thought, using her arms to pillow her cheek. He was a puzzle, one she was not sure she would ever be able to solve, but she had begun to try. She had set her sights now, and there was no going back.
"What will they think, Captain?" she ventured after countless moments had passed. "Your men?"

Her eyes watched him, hazy and unfocused with pleasure, but still bright and beautiful. He met her gaze equally, the corner of his mouth twisting upwards in a victorious smirk as his gaze raked over her, pleased at how she reached so earnestly for him. But he turned his back on her and crossed to the basin of water, dipping a cloth in and swiping it across his brow before picking the basin up and bringing it back to the bed, caring not a whit for his nakedness.
"On your stomach, my sweet," he said, "let me clean your back. Must keep those wounds clean or they’ll never heal."
Sioda longed to touch him, to run her hands over him and explore, now that her mind might find some focus. He denied her, the soft sound of her wrist falling to the sheets, hands empty, resembling defeat.
Perhaps he did not care for sentimentality. She ought to be more careful with emotion, but he had demanded her trust and she had given it. Did he not like the way it looked?
There was not the first inkling of defiance in her now that she felt so thoroughly sated, and she obeyed him slowly. She didn't want him to tend to her back again -- he would reawaken the pain, when all she truly desired now was to succumb to the deep darkness and sleep with him beside her.
Slow your breath; unclench your fist. Even in sleep you are ready for war.

She writhed in his arms, twisting like a cat as her muscles clenched around him. She trembled against him and he felt her release course through her. so closely were their bodies pressed, even without the sudden bite at his throat which drew a sharp hiss from between his clenched teeth. She shuddered against him, her muscles tightening and relaxing as the waves of her pleasure coursed through her lovely limbs.
With great effort, he pushed her away, rolling her onto her side and stumbling to his feet, catching a hold of the bedpost with one hand, his shoulders hunching and his own muscles tensing as he stroked himself firmly, his seed dripping from his cock onto the roughened floorboards of his cabin as he let out a soft exhale, like he had been struck in his gut, the air forced past his lips as he spilled into his own hand.
He leaned his shoulder heavily against the bedpost, his lashes fluttering closed as he let himself enjoy his pleasure for a moment before straightening and observing the slender siren sprawled across his bed, trembling with pleasure, her back striped with pain. A sharp smile spread across his lips.
"How lovely you look," he murmured, flicking his dark hair out of his face, "How lovely and how precious. My little treasure. My sparkling jewel of the sea. My sweet siren." His eyes narrowed ever so slightly, the smile victorious on his lips, "My Sioda.”
Her world was unsteady, one moment full of him and basking in the sudden and powerful bliss of it, the next moment empty. He had gone from her, parting their bodies abruptly (or so it felt to Sioda). The euphoria and release that her physical form had found did not fade as quickly, and she lay there watching him dazedly, her limbs settling to lead, pain creeping into the void he had left.
She did not feel abandoned for long, her desire finding itself as confused as everything else, the part of her that was undoubtedly woman honing in on the sight of a tall, beautifully built man seeking his release with her. Never before had she been so intimate with another person, and she watched each drop of his desire fall with hunger in her eyes.
Sioda could not form words to reply to him. Not yet.
Were she a cat, however, she might have been purring.
Her hands sought him, her mind departed, for now, from her body and the actions it took. There was no self-consciousness now, no fear, no worry for her secret or concern for herself. She had given herself over to him and this was the manifestation of her trust, this simplicity of being. Her hands tugged him back to her, tongue darting out to wet her drying lips.
