“That’s… unfortunate, to say the least,” Philippe sighed. “Sounds like Slither Wing went through a lot before Ishi found him. Being taken from the distant past to the modern world, being stuck in a place with aggressive Pokémon… it’s amazing that he’s adapted to the modern world so well now that he’s with Ishi.”
A soft chuckle left him at that and he gazed back over at the still pleased Bug type purring on top of his trainer and snuggling his chest. While Slither Wing had been scared and clung to Ishimaru over everything at first that had changed to pure curiosity and wonder. It was honestly amusing watching him look at everything like that.
"He was uh... pretty scared when we first got here. But it's not surprising how well he's taken to it. You've seen how he is."
Colette let out a fearsome cry to challenge the figure, spreading her wings in a menacing stance.
“If you wanna get to Ishi, you’ll have to go through us!!” Colette called out threateningly.
“This figure doesn’t look like a Pokémon,” Philippe said with a furrowed brow. “Stuffy… are you sure about this? You really wanna take this thing on?”
It would turn at the sound and he growled as he prepared to defend them. There was a blurriness to the form but he could tell it was wearing some kind of robe. A robe that had some sort of symbol on it he couldn't make out. As it drifted closer he could make out something being whispered and he just managed to lift up a Shadow Claw as it suddenly lunged forward with incredible speed, the clank of metal against it making him swing himself around to knock it back with a fluidity he hadn't shown before.
It had been a long time since he'd battled but he still remembered all the dances he'd turned them into. This was no different. Even if it was a human ghost this time. So he nodded over at Colette and melted into the shadows to strike at it, launching himself up over it and letting a Shadow Ball loose before he twirled and sank out of sight again.
"I don't have a choice... I can't let it hurt him. Hah!! Colette! Cover me! It's time to dance!"
Colette and Philippe both faltered as they felt the chill in the air. It was about 21 degrees outside of the illusion, but within? It felt so much colder.
“Hm. Whatever this is, it doesn’t feel like a friendly presence,” Philippe remarked. “Keep your guard up, you two. Be prepared for whatever comes our way.”
Colette smirked at her trainer’s instructions. “I wish he could understand us. That’s literally what you just said, Stuffy.” She then shook her head, putting on a more serious face. “Got it, though. Protect Ishi and Philippe. Whatever this is, we’re gonna kick its ass.”
Stuffy would nod at that before making his way forward, grimacing as the air bit into him more and more. This had to be the worst one he'd dealt with. Some had been aggressive sure but never to this degree. This... This had to be dealt with as soon as possible. He wasn't going to let it... Wait... He paused as the whispers started up again and a looming figure came into view in the distance.
"You bet we are! I won't be letting it drag him here again. Gah... This one's bad... Hey...! What do you want with him?"
Philippe laughed softly. “He really is a great companion for Ishi. You are too, but in different ways. You’re more of a guide, and the big guy is emotional support. You guys make a great team.”
He paused. “Slither Wing has mentioned being in a place with scary Pokémon before Ishi found him and healed him up. Poor guy. It’s amazing that Ishi found him in time before he was… well. You know.”
He puffed up with pride at those words before nodding along. While he hadn't seen inside of that place from how the other Rangers had been talking about it he couldn't help but be glad to have found Slither Wing too. It couldn't have been safe in there and he dreaded what could have happened. It was for the best they got assigned to Kalos.
"Heh, you bet we are! Oh... He means that Area Zero place. There's... a lot of Pokemon like him in there. Not all of them are all that friendly either. I'm glad Ishi found the poor guy. He's better off with us."

“How am I supposed to go through a brick wall?” Colette asked, puzzled. “I’m not a ghost type like you!! I can’t phase through walls!!
Philippe frowned as the Pokémon came to a stop in front of what appeared to be a normal brick wall. “Hm. Is this wall an illusion, Stuffy?”
Colette’s eyes widened in surprise. “Oh!! That’s right!! Ghosts can make fake walls!!” She put a foot to the wall to see if it was real, and she gasped as she stumbled through the illusion. “Ahh!! Oh, Arceus, that was weird!! Guess we have our answer!!”
Philippe couldn’t help but laugh as his loyal Skarmory stumbled through the “wall”.
“Oh, Colette… guess we just go through, huh?” Philippe chuckled fondly. He stepped through behind Colette, trying to keep quiet now that they were in the ghost’s territory.
“Alright, Stuffy,” Philippe murmured, “where to now?”
The Banette would point further down the path and carefully move forward, the sudden sharp cold air making him stay alert. It was hard not to feel the malice in the air after all and it was potent enough that both Colette and Philippe could probably feel it too. Whoever wanted his trainer to come here wasn't to be trusted. Why they held so much anger he didn't know but if they tried anything he'd make sure to put a stop to it.
"This way! Colette? Be ready to attack. This one... This one isn't going to play nice."
“I suppose,” Philippe replied with a shrug. “It’s still good to know how to battle so you can build up your strength… but if you say it’s not something you want, then that’s alright, I guess.”
He smiled gently at the description of Slither Wing. “The big guy really is just a marshmallow, huh? He’s a sweetheart. I quite enjoy interacting with him.”
He had to stifle a laugh when he brought up how gentle Slither Wing was, the sight of him curled up on top of Ishimaru making it harder to contain. He really was one of the most gentle Pokemon he'd ever met. He was stronger than he acted obviously but he only rarely showed that since he was more than happy just to be around them.
"Pfft, yeah. Soft as one too. He's tougher than he acts but most of the time he's either trying to hug somebody or wanting to show me or Ishi flowers. He's been really good to have around. He really helps Ishi out."
“Thanks!! I won’t let it hurt Ishi either, I promise!!” Colette swore, putting a wing over her heart in a way she had seen her trainer do. “Come on out, spooky, scary ghost!! We’re waiting for you!!”
A chuckle left the Ghost type at that but he frowned as he realized they had been walking for longer than they should have been. It wasn't the first time a ghost had tried to throw him off like that but he knew better than to ignore it. So he listened carefully and then pointed to what looked like a normal wall, peering through it to hear whispering before he motioned for them to follow him through.
"Heh yeah! Wait... We should have reached the end by now... Hmm... Oh! I found it! It's through here! Just keep close to me!"
Locked in a Room starters
“Well, this is just great. Locked in a room with you.” “Don’t look at me like that. I didn’t plan this.” “Could you stop pacing? You’re making me dizzy.” “I can’t believe I’m stuck here with you of all people.” “I never thought I’d say this, but I’d rather be anywhere else right now.” “Do you have any idea how long we’re going to be stuck here?” “Can we at least try to make the best of this situation?” “I suppose we could play a game to pass the time.” “I’m hungry. Did anyone remember to bring snacks?” “How did we even end up in this mess?” “I’m starting to feel a bit claustrophobic.” “Could you try to keep calm? Panicking won’t help.” “I think I saw something move over there. Do you hear that?” “I never realized how small this room actually is.” “Let’s just hope someone realizes we’re missing soon.” “I’m sorry for all the things I said before. Can we start over?” “It’s funny how being trapped together makes you see things differently.” “I never thought I’d say this, but I’m actually glad you’re here with me.” “We should probably figure out a plan for when someone finally lets us out.” “Well, at least we’ll have a good story to tell after this.”
[PACING] The sender walks back and forth across the room, unable to sit still. [SIGHING] The sender lets out an audible sigh, expressing their frustration. [WINDOW] The sender attempts to open a window, hoping for some fresh air. [DOOR] The sender inspects the door, searching for any signs of escape.
"...do you like not battling?" Philippe asked. "Most Pokémon love battling, so it makes me a bit sad to know that Ishi hasn't been using you guys to your full potential. I wouldn't mind helping train you guys to battle, even if it's just for fun, and even if Ishi isn't involved. It would help defend him if you and Slither Wing were at a higher level."
He'd smirk at that and seem amused at his words as he kept an ear out for any tell of their target's approach. While he understood his concern he also hadn't seen him or Slither Wing on the job before either. He was more than happy to show him how differently he used moves and how good of a team they were.
"Eh, You'll see when it shows up. I don't mind not battling. What I do is way more fun. Slither Wing is uh... not the kind to do that either. I've seen him cry over a flower before so... not for him. Heh but he still helps when me and Ishi have to go on missions. There's other ways to handle Pokemon besides battling."

Colette nodded affirmatively. "I guess that Ishi's the ghost bait, huh? It might disappear if Philippe leaves with him. It's a shame that we have to put our trainers in danger in order to figure out what this thing wants with Ishi."
Philippe followed along behind the Pokémon, chuckling softly as he listened to them chatter on. They really were adorable...
Stuffy would wave his arms as he spoke and point out that it was better to deal with it now. If it was able to make him come there, how he still didn't know, then just leaving wouldn't do anything. He was going to find out what it wanted and then make it leave him alone. Just dealing with ghost types was more than enough.
"If it made him come here it would just do it again. So I have to make sure it can't. Oh and it's not gonna hurt them! Not while I'm here! I'll let you know where it is so you can help!"
"Got it," Philippe agreed. "I don't really know how to battle, but... I'll try and figure it out. I don't want to be useless in this situation. Hopefully it'll come naturally to me once we get into a situation where I'll have to battle."
Skiddo would glance back at Ishimaru before giving him a smile at his words. Battling wasn't something he was used to either but that didn't mean he hadn't been trained to use his moves. It was just different how he did it. So Philippe should hopefully be able to see that and apply it in his own way too.
"Heh, just do what I do. Get creative with it. I don't battle either. I just know how to use them when Ishi needs me too."
Philippe looked down as Ishi suddenly began to breathe so heavily, and he gasped softly as he saw Ishi's eyes seeming to glow. He then looked over as he heard Stuffy attacking whatever he saw. The Banette then seemed to gesture for him to go towards the noise whatever was made, which made Philippe rather nervous. Whatever it was, it did not sound like a Pokémon.
"You want me to go down there?" Philippe clarified, trying not to let the fear show through in his voice. "If you say so, Stuffy..." He began to walk down the alleyway, calling Colette out of her Pokéball just in case he needed backup.
"There's something otherworldly here, Colette," Philippe briefed the Skarmory. "We're trying to figure out what it is." He offered her a couple of Hyper Potions to heal her up before they encountered whatever mysterious force awaited them down that alleyway. "Here... I'm sorry we didn't get a chance to stop by the Pokémon Center first."
Colette accepted the Potions, healing herself with the help of her trainer. She then looked at Stuffy as they walked further down the alleyway.
"What's going on?" Colette asked Stuffy. "I mean, I know Philippe's side of things, but what's your perspective?"
To Philippe, however, all that was heard is the chatter of a Pokémon.
The ghost type would move ahead of him and make sure nothing tried to come near him or Ishimaru as they went along, hearing him continuing to be caught in whatever hold it had on him fueling him. Though as Colette came out he would gesture at Ishimaru and then down the alley before miming what was going on to her as he spoke.
The air would get colder as they moved along and he could sense the spirit that wanted him there getting closer. Why a human ghost had dragged him all the way down here he didn't know but there had to be a reason. And if it was a malicious one he'd just make sure it couldn't bother him again.
"There's a ghost trying to do something to him. He just got up and started walking here. Then I ran into Philippe. So I'm gonna get it to leave him alone! I've never dealt with a human ghost before but... I'm gonna try!"
Philippe was quite concerned by that.
"He really does need to see a medium, then," Philippe decided. "It's not fair to him that he keeps getting haunted like this."
He paused. "Do we stay here, then? Just wait for the ghost types to come to us? It feels unfair for them to wake Ishi, but... I don't know how else we're going to hunt the ghost or whatever it is down, since it's pretty dark out here."
Since they were in a Wild Zone, there weren't many street lights around so the Pokémon could live in a more natural microenvironment. There was light around the edges from the streets that surrounded the Wild Zone, but nothing within.
He'd nod at that and huff, the gentle sound of Slither Wing purring along with the sounds of nature making him worry. He'd done night missions like this before and he'd never liked not knowing when an attack might happen. It had always been harder to prepare for so as much as he didn't want his trainer getting put in danger he'd be in way more if they didn't stay put.
"Yeah... Stuffy's been having to drive them off every night. We need to do something. That might be our only option. They can hit us way easier out there so it's better to let them come to us. Even if Ishi's gonna be in trouble. We just need to be ready to protect him."
Philippe faltered at Stuffy's growl, quirking a brow curiously. The Pokémon appeared to ready an attack, and Philippe looked around, wondering what Stuffy was sensing.
"You're a ghost Pokémon, don't you have some sort of telepathic abilities?" Philippe asked, getting frustrated with his lack of ability to understand the Pokémon. "Or is that only a thing that psychic types can do?" He wasn't frustrated at Stuffy, far from it, but just that he couldn't know what the Pokémon sensed that he himself couldn't.
Ishimaru's eyes would suddenly open and he would mumble something incoherent as he struggled more, his eyes a bright yellow as he breathed heavily. That was even more proof that something was there and the Banette wasted no time in firing a Shadow Ball down the alley that Ishimaru had been trying to go down, a ghostly shriek echoing from within as he pointed at his trainer and gestured towards the noise with another growl.
"Banette!! Bay... Bay bay Bayette!"

"...right," Philippe agreed, standing up and stretching. "What do we know so far? I'd assume you'd know more about this situation than me since I haven't been around Ishi as much as you have."
Skiddo would motion for him to come join him and keep his voice low so Ishimaru could fall asleep more easily, frowning as he kept an eye out for anything out of the ordinary. Whatever Pokemon had scared so many trainers and the Pokemon living there had to be dangerous and cunning. Why else had no one else managed to even spot it yet?
"As far as I overheard something keeps appearing here late at night and bothering trainers that might come in here. Several of them got spooked by it and even worse they didn't see it because fog always shows up before it tried to get at them. As much as Ishi doesn't want it to be... It's probably a Ghost type. Only way it could blend in like that."
"And Ishi's afraid of ghost types," Philippe said with a sigh. "Why would they send him out on a mission like this? That's just not fair."
He looked around with a pensive frown. "I'm not a Pokémon that can see exceptionally well in the dark. I don't think you are either. So whatever Pokémon's out here has the advantage up on us."
A deep sigh would leave the Grass type as well and he'd glance back at his trainer before letting him in on their secret advantage. If it was a ghost type they'd know immediately. Ishimaru would react instantly. And with how they were with him it was going to go straight for him. As long as they caught it off guard while it was focused on him then maybe they stood a better chance.
"Because he agreed to it even if he is afraid. He always takes these kind of missions even when he shouldn't... But... If it is a ghost type... We'll know when it shows up. Ishi... He can tell one's close by. It'll probably come our way too. Ghosts... They uh... They get really aggressive with him. So we need to hit it as fast as possible. I can hit it with Sleep Powder. That should slow it down. Enough for us to handle at least."
Philippe sighed softly. "I don't know what's going on, but this is weird. I can see his breath, but it's about 21 degrees out tonight. Way too warm to see his breath under normal circumstances right now."
He began to walk towards his own apartment. "I hope Draven doesn't mind having company over... but I can't just bring Ishi home and let this happen all over again. He needs supervision, at least for tonight."
Ishimaru would struggle more as he was taken away from the alley and Stuffy would growl as he sensed something present. It wasn't a ghost type. Not the kind he was used to anyway. That much he could tell. But it was still trying to get at his trainer and he was going to do what he always did. Which is why he readied an attack as he kept a lookout for the offending spirit.
"Bayette... Bay! Bayette Bay!"
