Throughout their meal, Keith gave shy glances and timid smiles at Jean through bites of food and sips of wine. It felt right. When dinner had ended, he folded his napkin on his side of the table and smiled over at Jean with tinted cheeks, partially from the alcohol, though most of it was due to the happiness that boiled under his skin. “Did you mention a walk before?”

Keith lifted his own glass and smiled at him, love twinkling in his eyes. “Cheers.” He said with a nod before bringing the glass to his lips and sipping the wine. “Jean, this truly is a lovely surprise. Thank you.”

“If you went to all the trouble to bring food out here then we should have even a little of it.” Keith said softly, letting out a sigh that was almost dreamy. He’d barely gotten there and he knew that he’d remember this night forever. “Then we can get on to our walk– we just shouldn’t let food spoil.”

“You have a point.” It did take him a while to convince the chefs to do it without telling them who it was for. He could have gotten away with it, but he recognized one of the cooks from back home and didn’t want to take the risk. “Oui” He grinned and went to hold a chair out for him.

Keith bit the inside of his mouth, trying to keep his smile as composed as he could, but he kept it small, though it was daring to spread across his face. “Merci beaucoup.” He said, gratefully, sitting down and looking up at Jean.
