one day he overhears Will recommending The Clash to another costumer so he thinks bingo, that's it. the next day he picks up The Clash's most recent release and proudly takes it for Will to ring it up, making sure to casually remark it's his (Chance's) favorite.

the record is Cut The Crap, The Clash's deeply panned and widely loathed final album. Will looks at Chance as if he has two heads. this is no one's favorite album and if it is Chance's then his taste is the worst Will has ever seen.

Will can't even hide his disdain in a costumer service voice--he's like, "you like this? really?" Chance is flustered but also a bit annoyed because hey, he's entitled to an opinion, even if that's not even his actual opinion and just something he thought would impress Will. they bicker back and forth and Chance eventually lets his true motivation slip, like "yeah well I thought you liked it, but I guess you're a bigger music snob than I thought."

and Will goes. well first of all I'm not a snob I'm right. but also. "why do you care what I like?"

Chance freezes and blushes and stammers an excuse to leave and basically runs off before Will gets the chance to stop him.

a couple days later at school Will approaches Chance when he's alone and he apologizes for maybe coming across as too judgemental. Chance shrugs. then Will tentatively says if Chance wants recommendations, they could get together sometime and Will could play some of his favorites. they can even--it takes so much effort for Will to say this--listen to Cut the Crap together so Chance can form his own opinion about it.

Anyway. Here's bychance um... Doing whatever this bullshit (/affectionate) is.
