There are several scenes in which characters are in hyperrealistic simulations that they're unaware of, being tricked, having their loved ones and reality replaced with indistinguishable replicas, and a lot of other stuff along those lines. The whole movie has themes of illusions and reality control.

That the most imporant lessons are already contained deeply within oneself. That anything that is truly worth it involves pain and esoteric openness. That everything flows and is interconnected. That patience is a state of the soul and it should be practiced. That one should maintain a welcoming heart and never shut it down at will. That the universe is not to blame, nor is bad timing to be blamed, incapacity to accept and receive is usually to blame and coldness of heart. That we must allow ourselves to be constantly surprised and we must embody our individuality always and always. That we are on this earth to keep learning and growing and experiencing the privacy of whatever we value as sacred and beautiful and holy.
