Announcement
I know my Shiro blog has only just started a couple months ago, but I am quitting.
I haven’t lost my muse, nor is it because I don’t enjoy any of the RP’s I was doing. I loved them in fact. I still do, and feel terrible about abandoning them.
What I don’t love is Tumblr.
First, some back story;
My first experience with Tumblr was a group of nasty people who I thought were my best friends. I met them through the South Park fandom as rp partners.
We were super close. I even visited them where they lived. And it was fine as long as I was the “strong” one. The one that they could run to with their problems and be their crying shoulder and give advice. Except then I became super depressed. They decided I was attention seeking. Accusing me of attacking them every time I tried to communicate why I was upset because I wasn’t being empathetic enough to their anxiety and not thinking about how my concerns were affecting them. Emotionally manipulating me and gas lighting me.
The straw that broke the camels back was them telling me essentially to stop ruining their day when I admitted I was scared because I wanted to hurt myself.
They ran and talked smack about me to the chat of over 15 people, saying I was attacking and being mean to them, when I was at work and unable to defend myself, so when I came home and hopped online to get away from my stressful day and say hello to people I called my friends, I was attacked and chased out of the chat.
This was almost three years ago, and I’ve had this distaste with Tumblr ever since. It took 6 months of serious cognitive therapy to heal from those people who emotionally manipulated me, and it took me even longer to be able to get back on this website and rp. And there were times I struggled with it still.
I switched fandoms. I stayed in my lane. I avoided anyone negative like the plague for my own mental health. Turns out, that was just as bad.
Fast foreword to now;
I’ve learned in recent Voltron Interviews that the complete travesty of Season 8 is because of Tumblr.
I loved Voltron. I don’t care that it was just a cartoon show or that with ADHD I unhealthy hyper-fixated on it. I loved it. It was my escape. It made me happy. And even though I was sad to see it end, I was ready to let it go, until we got the rushed and half-hearted season 8. A show that started so strong deserved an epic ending and instead it felt like the fandom just got shit on. And though I know part of the blame goes to the executives who kept changing the story, I now know a good portion of Voltron’s tragic failure is because of Tumblr and the Antis.
They preached violence, attacked mutual fans and voice actors, and basically disheartened JDS and LM until they didn’t want to work on Voltron anymore.
I knew about the antis, of course. Who didn’t? But I ignored it because I didn’t want to be involved in that drama. Because I thought if we ignored it the antis would go away.
Because watching these antis was like being in that group of people again who had hurt me so much all those years ago.
That mob mentality, the preaching of actual violence, the group think, things that I see in such excess on this website, I never anticipated would lead to an actual real life consequence. And I’ve realized that staying in my lane and avoiding the antis isn’t and was never the answer.
I tried. I tried to be over what happened to me 3 years ago. I tried to believe in the good parts of this website, and the rare few precious gems of beautiful people who can be found here. I tried to change my perception of what this website meant to me. I tried to believe that the antis would never be given so much power as to actually ruin something that I loved.
And I know all websites have a measure of bad people/trolls/drama in it, but I feel like Tumblr’s ratio of good content vs human garbage is off the charts. I have been on many social media platforms, and RPing sites, for many years, and never have I seen so much disgusting behavior as I have since being here.
Tumblr is literally fucking evil.
I’ve decided that, not only is finding the rare gems of human decency not worth wading through the toxic sewer sludge that surrounds it, but the best way for me to show my dissatisfaction with this website and the violent mob mentality behavior it allows is by not supporting Tumblr and getting off of it permanently.
If anyone knows of a good place to Roleplay, let me know. I won’t be deleting this blog, and for a few days I’ll still be checking my messages, just in case. My muse isn’t dead, and I would love to establish him somewhere in an environment that isn’t as filthy.
For now though, I’m saying good bye. I wish I could just tolerate Tumblr long enough to finish the threads I have, but I can’t. Thank you to everyone who made me feel welcome and approached me for RP’s. I know it wasn’t a long run, but you guys were awesome. You were the rare few gems I was talking about.
