Hey goddess. How are you today? I got up really early today because I had to put some final touches on my new self-study program I'm offering in my home country (teaching women how to fall in love with themselves), then I had lots of coaching calls. Thursdays are the busiest on my calendar. :) Anyhow, I was thinking about something that I want to share with you today. You see, whenever youโre having that strong urge to eat something when youโre not hungry, to overeat or comfort eatโฆ That moment, right before you do it, is a huge blessing. Why? Because if you just pause for a few minutes and really think about your true desires in that moment... this can give you so much more pleasure than actually eating that food. Let me explain... In order to get pleasure from it is not to give in to the โtemptationโ but to pause. I always recommend my clients that they have a 5-minute ritual before eating. This allows them to pause and ask themselves a series of questions that help them understand what they are really craving in that moment. It's never about the food. There is always a reason why you want to eat something when youโre not physically hungry. So when you take the time to get in tune with what your real needs and desires, and you then giving yourself THAT instead of food, you are on your way to the life of your dreams. Next time, when youโll experience that, just set a timer on your phone for 5 minutes, and ask yourself: What is it that triggered me? What am I feeling right now? What do I really need? WANT TO LOSE WEIGHT? DO THIS! I had a conversation with one of my clients today about how hard it is to accept yourself when she still hasn't lost the weight... In her words: "I cannot accept myself with all the fat on my body, I look like a pig, and I'm full of crappy junk foods I just binged on, I cannot accept that!!" But here is the thing, though... >>> You will not be able to hate yourself slim. You cannot punish yourself slim. It just doesn't work! (Trust me, I tried.) You really need to love yourself first. --- I'd like to show you the differences between trying to love yourself slim or hate yourself slim. Imagine a woman that's trying to lose weight. She started a new diet again that will help her reach her goals. Everything is going as planned for a while until one day when she has a super stressful day and she misses her workout and in the evening she eats a huge portion of ice-cream... โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ ๐ SCENARIO #1 (self-hate) Here is how this continues if she reacts with SELF-HATE. THOUGHTS: "I blew it, again!! How could I eat that ice-cream?! I have no willpower, I'm never going to succeed. What's wrong with me?!" FEELINGS: Guilty. Ashamed. Hopeless. Angry. Inadequate. ACTIONS: Give up. Eat more sweets. Binge on all the "forbidden foods" until the next time she'll decide to start over. โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ ๐ SCENARIO #2 (self-love) Now let's look at this scenario when she reacts with SELF-LOVE. THOUGHTS: "Hmmm, I wonder why I wanted to eat that ice-cream so badly. What do I really need? Rest? Pleasure? Maybe my body just needed more carbs! Can I be okay with that? Yes. I want to trust my body. I want to be her friend. It's all okay. I've got this." FEELINGS: Compassion. Nurtured. Taken care of. Relieved. RESULTS: Connects with her body in a deeper way. Becomes friends with her body and starts to work with her and not against her. Feels happier. Usually loses weight in the most pleasurable way. โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ โ Can you now see how it's actually crucial to approach weight loss with self-love?? Do you have any idea how good your amazing body can actually feel when she is nourished, and loved? The problem is that we are focusing on the wrong thing. >>> We are focusing on how our body looks. (This usually leads to counting calories, restricting, and starving...) What if you would change your focus? I encourage you to try it, at least for one week. Put that reflection in the mirror aside, and start focusing on how you want to feel. Energized? Strong? Powerful? Free? Vibrant? Happy? Yesssss! Here's how you do this correctly. 1. Eat something. 2. Notice how your body feels after 1 hour. 3. Notice how your body feels after a few hours. 4. Notice how your body feels the next day. And notice without any judgment! You are now your own guru. You set your own rules. You decide. It's best if you do that in a notebook and do it for a few days or a week. Maybe something you'll eat will make your body feel lazy. Tired. Bloated. Sluggish. Or maybe not! Only you can test this out. Only you have the answers. I'm not here to tell you what to eat because YOU already have all the answers. You just have to become more mindful of how your body feels and then you have a choice. It's your choice! Do you keep want to feel lazy and tired or do you want to choose foods that bring you another step closer to how you *really* want to feel? Start eating now to activate that goddess inside of you. People always ask me: When is the best time to eat? How many meals per day do I need to eat? And here is my answer: Eat when your body tells you to eat!! :) Sometimes you'll want to eat your breakfast at 7am, and other times at 12pm! It really depends upon many different factors, like how much you ate yesterday, how late you ate yesterday, where in your menstrual cycle you are, when did you wake up... Sometimes you'll skip dinner because you just won't feel like eating it (yep, it will happen - even though it may seem impossible now ;)). Sometimes you'll eat only 500 calories per day (without you even realizing) because maybe your body will need to save it's precious energy that would usually go into digestion for healing... And other times you'll eat 3000 calories because you'll just be hungry. Who cares? Forget about the numbers. The truth is: your body knows best. Imagine this ... You've started a new diet. You are decided that THIS TIME things will be different. You're going to be really strict. You're going to do your best. At least not something that you could truly enjoy. Your friend, on the other hand, is excited about the food choices and orders the most delicious item on the menu (and a dessert!!). And you... I got one email that brought tears to my eyes and you'll soon learn why. ๐ It was from one of my past clients who has a special place in my heart for sure. THE LANGUAGE OF SELF-CRITICISM CUTS LIKE A KNIFE... AND IT HURTS โ๐ฅ When youโre judging yourself you then, of course, want to punish yourself as well and you do this by touching your own wounds and criticising yourself. Itโs important to become aware of our self-talk so we can change it. ๐ฎ ๐ญ ๐ซ Because your thoughts create your reality. And if you are constantly full of hate and negative beliefs... that will definitely not be helpful when trying to heal your relationship with food and your body. Your self-talk determines your self-image. Your self-image, in turn, determines your performance or behavior, which reinforces the performance OR behavior. This creates an endless self-reinforcing feedback loop which dooms you to fail if your self-talk is negative. Each time one of these cycles is completed the program becomes embedded even stronger in the subconscious mind. The first step is to realize that negative thoughts are a part of our consciousness and since you have created these thoughts you are the only person who can change this. Awareness is key. ๐ If you have awareness, you also have the opportunity to transform this self-talk and heal yourself, and finally, stop suffering. Without the awareness, there is nothing you can do.
