Bones frowned.  That wasn’t good if one of the crew had done this. “Well, I’m pretty sure you know not to go off with strangers, even one in a uniform, but we’ll get to that later.”  He took a breath. “What color uniform was he wearin’ Darlin’?”

The little girl frowned up to him, tilting her head a little. “But why? Aren’t we all a team?”, she asked quietly and pulled a face as she tried to remember what the man had been wearing. “Um — it was a red shirt and black trousers.”

Bones sighed, hating to be the one to introduce duplicity to Jamie,  but he'd rather she be safe. "Sometimes a person that doesn't want to play buy the rules anymore will cheat."  At the red shirt he inwardly groaned:  That was only half the crew.  "Well that rules out quite a bit of people.  D'you remember if there was anything around the cuff of his sleeve?"  A rank would help too, unless the bastard wasn't a crew member to begin with, then they were out of luck.

He snorted, then chuckled shaking his head. “Ain’t that th’ truth.”  He glanced at the system. “Well, other than your endorphins being off the chart, I’m not seeing anything in the initial that would indicate an endocrine change, but the deeper analysis takes about an hour.  It might be a change in cerebral physiology.”  He shrugged, leaning on the bed next to Kahn.  He was still on guard, he’d been an idiot to not be.  Bones figured that at this point Kahn wouldn’t kill him though.  He mentally snorted, too useful alive he guessed.

Khan hummed as he listened to the doctor’s diagnosis, wondering at what metaphorical switch could have been flipped that would cause such a profound change. That it wasn’t endocrine wasn’t surprising, nor had it been a bad guess to begin with. Noting the man’s snort, he glanced at the other curiously. “Find something amusing?” he asked.

"Just the entire damned year, t' be honest."  He shook his head, clearing the thoughts away. "considering the energy needed to move all that came from somewhere, I wouldn't be surprised if you were half-starved right now.  You feel like bravin' the mess or d'you want to just use the replicator here as a stopgap?"  First concern would always be his patients, and maybe that's where his prosaic outlook on the whole situation was coming from.

He met her eyes, his own a mix of frank surprise and anticipation.  He’d never had a clue that she’d even been interested until she came to him, a box with the collar in hand.  Hell, he’d never done anything like this at all before, but she’d seemed serious, wanting, and the kiss….well that had made it damned clear that she was a sight more than interested.  ”Southern boys can be a little dense?”  He quirked one side of his mouth up, wondering where she’d take this since he was clearly not in charge.

Saria laced her fingers through his hair, careful not to pull it “You humans are a bit odd, you know…” she mused “My kind simply tells one another their feelings… But the captain said that humans do this if they want to make advances in their relationship.” she was ninety-nine percent sure that he had been lying, but…she wanted to trust the man, so she ignored her better judgement. 

Bones' eye twitched.  Jim was so  very dead after this one. He coughed, scrubbing a hand over his face. "The captain was exaggeratin' a bit.  But,"  He couldn't help the shiver of anticipation that worked over him.  "I don't think I mind this all that much."  Part of his brain was screaming at him that it was too soon, hell he hadn't a clue before she handed him the box, but the rest of him?  That's what answered.

He narrowed his eyes slightly, eyeing the large bird, finally relenting.  ”I’m checking your wounds from yesterday when you get back.”  He told himself more than her, knowing there was likely no way in hell he could stop her.  And less of a chance of him not fretting about his patient the entire time she was gone   “Hell,”  He grumbled, settling back, though he was still tense. “Just be careful.”

She tilted her head slightly, thinking it over “If…you want, you can come along. You and Kovu can keep watch and I’ll do the fishing. It’ll be faster if I have two set of eyes watching my back.” she offered with a small smile “It’ll be nice to have someone to talk to anyway. I mean, Kovu is great and all, but he isn’t really one for conversations” 

Bones snorted a soft laugh at that, getting up as quiet as he could. "You've got a point there." Seeing as they all slept in their uniforms, he was ready to go, raking a hand through his short hair and making it spike up. "Lead the way."

Jamie wouldn’t usually go off with someone she didn’t know.  With all the different planets they visited, and all the different people that they met constantly it had been one of the first things that the entire crew taught her from the time she could toddle around.  ”Was it one of the kids in your class?”  He checked the readouts on the bed’s panel, satisfied that she was out of danger and turned the biobed off.

She looked up at him expecting, continuing to eat the sandwich and staying quiet. The young Kirk swallowed down well behaved so she could answer his question and shook her head. “No.”, she replied and knew she was probably getting into trouble for going with a stranger. She wouldn’t have done usually, but for some reason she had. “It was a man. He was wearing an uniform like you and he said he would want to show me something and then he’d bring me back to Daddy.”

Bones snorted, turning to get the appropriate hypo. “I’m not sayin’ you’re sane.”  He cast a sidelong glance at Khan. “After what you did, I’m fairly certain you’re not.”  There was slight humor in his eyes as he took the sample, so different from when he took the initial one, the one that ultimately ended up saving Jim’s life. “But what happened in there isn’t bein’ insane.”  He shook his head. “After what you likely went through before in your life, I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t be very sane either.”  He nodded as he finished, immediately setting up the sample for analysis.

Shrugging, Khan weathered the man’s statement in good humor. He was well aware that his actions could always keep him one step soundly beyond what was an acceptable level of delusional. There was no point in denying the truth of the matter, though he spared the Doctor a faint smile. It was at least ingratiating that the man was encompassing all aspects of the circumstance. “Sanity is a cozy lie,” he quoted with as much tired humor as he could manage.

He chuckled, taking a plain old paring knife from the block, settling at the sink, a long curl of peel winding down from the first tuber. “I think I can handle that.  You want ‘em chunked up too or left whole?”

she looked at him,’ cut up Leonard. ’ she said smiling softly. She relaxed a bit as she started up the cabbage and a pie.

He nodded, continuing to peel the spuds.  They worked in silence for a little bit, then he looked up, seeing Joanna watching him intently.  "Want t' learn?"  At the girls enthusiastic not he pulled the bowl around, , standing behind his daughter where she sat, guiding her hands as she held the knife and slowly peeled the rest of the potatoes.

Bones shook his head. “I know damned well I don’t have t’ say yes.  But Khan,”  He looked at her. “There’s punishin’ someone for things they did, then there’s torturin’ people.  I won’t see the latter happen.  I’ll help that your crew, once it’s cleared to do that.”  He nodded finishing his own food, pausing when she got up.  He blinked, trying not to stare.  For some reason he’d never imagined her doing something so mundane as the dishes.

Such mundane things were the ideal things for living. Even if they were an intellectually gimped waste of time, it had to be done. She scrubbed in silence, looking over, “Are you finished?” She inquired to the bowl, with a slight amused quirk of her lip.

He glanced down quick at his bowl. "Huh, I guess I am."  If he was slightly dazed when he handed his dishes over.  "Thank you."  He shook his head a little, then went to the closet, pulling an extra blanket and pillow out and setting up on the couch, taking a moment to duck into the closet to change out of his uniform and into a worn, comfortable shirt and jeans. "That, is a hell of a lot better."  He sighed, half a smile on his face, then it faded. "Please tell me they had the common decency to give you yer own clothes at least."

Bones started, then snorted, "Here I am naggin' you when I've the same damn problem."  He glanced at Spock and grimaced; if he couldn't trust the man at this point. "Nightmares aren't something I look forward to."  He left it at that.  If he was right about Spock's lack of sleep and eating, then the Vulcan would figure it out.
