tucked behind a large floral arrangement, with penelope by her side, and not one droll suitor in sight, billie was of the mind that this was the most fun she ever had in a ball. no risk of her stepping on a gentleman's foot -- it didn't happen often, once, or twice every fortnight, but it did happen often enough that her approach caused eyebrows to twitch, and feet to scurry away, or to be stuck in a conversation where a suitor's virtues were praised to the skies. no, she much preferred conversations where the man were dissected, their lines mocked, and if possible, where their names did not even come up.

the only tiring thing about being a wallflower, was that this ballroom had no available seats.

[ important context: she married the family that neighboured the bridgerton estate, only three miles between their houses and she ran aubrey hall before edmund so i assume she often visited so the two of them can talk business, ontop of her visiting just because she wants to hang out with her family. the rokesbys and bridgertons often meet for dinner, and it is always considered family dinner ]

therefore, i think she was probably very close to all the kids until eloise. that is -- a-e have lots of memories of staying at crake house for an afternoon of play, of her visiting with presents, reading to them at night ( she does voices! )

she is very fond of francesca, gregory and hyacinth, but as the bridgertons spent most of their time in london after edmund's passing, she didn't get to see them grow up as the did the other kids.

if aunt winnie is the aunt you send kids who want to learn piano, aunt billie is the aunt violet sends her kids when they are being impossible.

she is very similar in disposition to hyacinth. prone to hijinks, adventures, cheeky humor and going around in breaches.

when the kids are visiting, they aren't shut off in the nursery (did this tradition start with the rokesbys? with the bridgertons? hard to know). they eat their meals with the family.

violet expressly forbid her from telling eloise about what happened in her presentation to the queen (... someone may have caught on fire). she didn't want to give her any ideas.

"traitor," she hissed under her breath, looking up at her husband through narrowed eyes, the parcel on her lap shifting nervously. she always thought dogs were sensitive creatures, most animals were, only she was reluctant to extend this observation towards the squirming, ten-pound brown fluff, as a dog.

she is in a very unique position. she was older enough, that when she came of age, the heir was still in school, there was a vacuum of power, as her father was not that interested anymore and she took it. she took the reigns of the family, of running the estate, taking care of the farmers and through that, her hard-work, she gained freedom and respect. it is a fluke. if it not for the fact there were two stillbirths between them, edmund would be much closer to her age, and she would not have had the opportunity to prove herself.

in a way, she is a queen regent, waiting for the prince to become of age and take everything that is rightfully his. when her brother -- whom she loves -- fulfills his duties, she will lose her reason for existing. because, as i mentioned before, she has no interest in what has been allotted to women in this era. she wants to run the estate, she enjoys it. reads about agriculture for fun, finds it fascinating and is always looking for new solutions, since she was a little girl.

billie too had passed the age of majority, but she was still billie, still romping around her father's property, still riding her too-spirited mount like her bones were forged of steel and flashing her wide smile around the village that adored her.

but how was it possible he was the only person in england who seemed to realize what a danger she was to humanity.

eldest of the bridgerton clan, she is the firstborn. not that it matters, as the title, and the lands will pass on to her brother edmund but for a few years, between her brother becoming of age, and her father losing interest in running the estate, sybilla 'billie' bridgerton was the de facto head of aubrey hall.

it was something she earned. and something she fought for. billie was never going to be a debutante; neither her personality, or the way she was bred, would have made her comfortable in london, among the ton. too headstrong, independent, her frank way of speaking would have made her a target. perhaps... perhaps if her sister wasn't born with a sickly constitution, her mother might have paid more mind to the fact her daughter was running wild with the boys next door and shown her the way, but it wasn't meant to be.

miss billie bridgerton was born half-wild, smiling and with a disposition to work. it took time, patience, and some concessions, but by the time she was twenty-three -- almost an old-maid, in the eyes of her worried mother, she could shoot, ride a horse and talk about agricultural treatises as well as any man. and the fact she never took anything of that for granted, and worked tirelessly from her tenants allowed her a limited amount of freedom. within the confines of her estate, and of crake house, billie bridgerton was never forced to be anything she was not.

viscountess kennard, future countess of mantson, billie married the eldest rokesby brother, an annoying, know-it-all, whom she wants to strangle half the time. the other half... well, she can't talk about that in polite company.

happily married, she continues watching over the bridgerton estates well until the end of her first pregnancy before giving the reins over back to her father and his steward. she remains involved until edmund finds his footing and kicks her out of his studies, mumbling something about meddling sisters.

but this was billie bridgerton, and she didn't do embarrassment. she just did as she pleased, and damn the consequences. she had done so her entire life, generally dragging half the rokesby clan down with her.

and somehow everyone always forgave her. she had that way about her - it wasn't charm exactly - it was that crazy, reckless confidence that made people flock to her side. her family, his family, the entire bloody village - they all adored her. her smile was wide, and her laugh was infectious.
