Shay had ridden out with a small contingent of warriors with naught but saddlebags full of tools, and a heavy fur wrapped around her body to ward off what she viewed as a constant chill. Since Lexa had accepted the Skaikru into the coalitionâand their subsequent turning of the small blacksmith from Reaper back to Trikruâthings had been a little in flux. But one thing that everyone could agree on was that Skaikru werenât builders so much as they were reliant upon their tek. In a way that was just like the Mountain Men, enough that it sent chills down Shayâs spine when she thought about it for too long.
But that had been more than a week ago, and Shay had settled in with their people, building and creating a forge so they could have a level of security beyond a few metal ropes and tek. If nothing else, solid walls would do them good, but those required fitted pieces and working parts. Thus, why Shay had found herself living in a moderately sized tent at Arkadia instead of her small hut attached to her forge in Polis.
The ebon-haired blacksmith was observantâmaybe not as observant as a warrior, but all of their people were just as a survival precautionâand sheâd noticed that one of the perimeter guards seemed to have no time to sleep, considering she was almost constantly working. Something that Shay knew to be beyond dangerous if left alone for any length of time.
So sheâd walked herself up while the young woman was on what the blacksmith knew to be a redundant patrol (and having overheard one of the other guards actually relieve her) and reached out to grasp her shoulder, gently tugging her away from her route and toward her own tent home. Â
âYou can argue later, Skaigona, when you arenât a danger to everyone, but you will sleep tonight, sha,â she said simply, her considerable upper body strength similar to the steel she worked with as she practically frog-marched her toward her tent, âYou may use my furs if you are concerned with moving too far from the wall, but I will not be taking no for an answer.â
