One day, there was this girl named Blu. She had this thing about her that nobody knew: she had a disability. Her and her mom were talking and her mom said, “the summer is coming so I signed you up for summer camp. You can meet some friends and stop being around me so much”. Blu was open to that idea and said, “Okay I will try it out”.
Blu never thought that she would meet her first boyfriend at summer camp. His name was JB and he had this thing about him; he had the same disability as Blu. Blu said, “Wow that’s amazing! I finally found someone who understands what it is like to be me!”. But his disability wasn’t as bad as Blu’s.
At camp they couldn’t have boyfriends and girlfriends, even though everybody was dating each other anyway. JB thought that Blu couldn’t talk at all; Blu thought that he was gay. One day he heard her talking and was surprised; he said, “Wow you really can talk!”. I guess they were both surprised that day.
JB had had a hard life; his mom died when he was nine years old. At that time, Blu’s dad had died that year before and she was getting ready to start at a new school that fall. She was feeling nervous and anxious. She was 18 years old and JB was living with his foster mother at that time.
They had to wait till the end of summer camp to exchange numbers. As the end of summer was approaching, they were able to get each other’s information.
Everything started from there. They started talking on the phone and having deep conversations. At first, Blue was off put that JB was so into Jesus. It made her want to stop talking to him for a year.
As they started talking again, he encouraged her to go to his church. Blu was open to going; and as time passed, she began to actually enjoy going to church. She was able to meet some friends, and was even able to get baptized. JB was crying like a baby during her baptism because he was so happy that she got saved. During Blu’s baptism, the emotion was so high that not only was JB crying, but the entire church as well could feel the energy and everyone was brought to tears.
As time passed, JB had moved to a group home. Blu went to the house and visited him every now and then. He would come to Blu’s house and visit her from time to time as well. JB was supporting Blu at her family parties as their bond continued to grow.
Blu never thought that she would ever have a boyfriend in her life. Blu admired JB; she thought that he was the strongest person in the whole world. He shared things that happened between him and his sister when he was only eight years old. Blu admired that not only was JB very independent, but he also gave the best hugs.
Blu felt comfortable sharing her life with someone who understood what she experienced on a daily basis. Blu said, “I will always love him; he will always be my first love and my best friend forever”.
