its me again, i said this in a rb but ty for all the love on dynah! This next character is a bit harder for me to do. I said previously (kinda, didn't finish rhe sentence) that this universe is a mesh of Alicd in Wonderland and Wizard of Oz, and I came up with this concept for the Cheshire Cat.
(This is partly bc i struggle at drawing animals) but the idea is that they can go from being fully cat -> anthro cat (like.. think i guess how they do jax from tadc? Or how "cats look in cats don't dance") -> human with minimal cat features (ears, nose, eyes). And for this character i want them to have a female and male form because...why not! This isnt the issue, the issue is that well.. i want them to be Black but it's hard to figure out thier look in a way that lets it be known they're the Cheshire Cat. I looked up other peoples interpretations but they're...well a skinny anime guy.
I don't have a set fashion style for either of the worlds, just for characters alone. (Like my version of Glinda for example, i looked at 80s fantasy cartoons specifically.) And for this character i want them to have a female and male form because...why not!
I normally start with hair that could be for them both, so I contemplated giving them twists but it felt like.. a cop out? Like it didn't fit them. ⬇️ (this is from like...4 months ago as a concept ignore the dullness)
So i then focused on making the fem form, and came up with my attempt at a stylized finger wave bob? Because i decided to try to go with 1920s fashion and hair for them.(im not good at drawing finger waves so i need to lock on that, which is why its a bob for her.)(left is more my style, right is when i was looking at a ref.)
And the thing is, im not sure how to convey that this is supposed to be the Cheshire Cat? Like duh they have other forms, but i guess im so used to how people typically give hair to human versions of him. I gave her a suit, which i guess can give it away but i fear i wrote/drew myself into a corner with this one! Maybe i should just say screw that and be bold and focus on my own version, but im not sure if im even able to do that.
also if you see an issue with the concept in itself please let me know! Even tho im Black i can unknowingly play into something negatively unintentionally and wanna be aware of that lol.
So, is this a cute design? Yes! Can I tell this is supposed to be the Cheshire Cat? No 😭. This might be the time that you go find the Professional Furries and start studying what they do lmao because I'd be lying if I said I had any advice on how to draw anthropomorphic creatures 😭 I would absolutely recommend being bold and focusing on your own vision- but I also recognize that that means we need color or context to know "oh, okay, this is the Cheshire Cat". Sorry I can't be of more help, here!
