“I’m working as an interpreter. I know what these people are going through. My family fled Afghanistan because the Taliban wanted to kill my father. I arrived in Greece fifteen years ago. We came across a river from Turkey. We tried to walk at night but we knew that we’d been caught because we kept seeing red lasers pointed at us. We saw the glow of night vision goggles through the trees. But nobody approached us, so we thought that maybe we had been mistaken, and we kept walking. Eventually we came upon a car along the road that had driven into a ditch. The lights were on and the doors were open. We thought somebody might be hurt inside, so everyone ran toward the car. But it was a trap. The police came swarming out of the trees. I’d been told many times that they’d beat us when they found us. But it was even worse than I imagined. They treated us like animals. They wore masks and gloves because they were afraid to even touch us. It was like we weren’t human.” (Kos, Greece)

According to UNICEF, 663 million people worldwide do not have access to clean drinking water. The book’s technology can successfully turn even diluted sewage into filtered water that’s comparable to the tap water in America.
How it works: Tear out a page, slide it into the filter box, pour in the contaminated water, and what comes out is safe to drink.
One book can provide someone with clean water for up to four years.
Each book costs pennies to produce, but funding is desperately needed to help bring it to the market.

“In my mind, I see a line. And over that line, I see green fields, and lovely flowers, and beautiful white women with their arms stretched out to me over that line, but I can’t seem to get there no how. I can’t seem to get over that line.’ That was Harriet Tubman in the 1800s. And let me tell you something. The only thing that separates women of color from anyone else is opportunity. You cannot win an Emmy for roles that are simply not there. So here’s to all the writers, the awesome people… People who have redefined what it means to be beautiful, to be sexy, to be a leading woman. To be black.”

Awwww, they are almost 18 months apart, just like my sister and I.
LOVE THEM
I told a White girl I thought she was Black today and her reaction did not disappoint.
I just did it to be smart. I knew she was White. But she seemed kinda boushie so I was gonna fuck with her. When she came to order I was like, “What are you mixed with? Your hair is so nice.” And she looked SO LOST. Like when I say lost I mean, like Alice in Wonderland, blindfolded. “What do you mean mixed??” And I was like “Are you mixed with White?” And she looked like I just threw fire at her, “I AM White!” And I was so serious and said “Really? Wow, I thought you were Black.” And she looked like she wanted to breakdown crying. “I look Black?? How?? I haven’t gone tanning or anything!” And I said “You could pass for a biracial Black girl, your hair doesn’t look like typical White hair, it’s nice.” And I swear watching her squirm was like physically watching her brain try and fail repeatedly to put together and understand the words I was saying to her before I swear she TWITCHED once and said “I’m not Black.” And walked away horrified. She made my day.

there’s a farmers market in everett (off the orange line, idk how often it is probably once a week or something) i have not actually been to it so i cant say how many of the vendors are black but i do know they’re all local.
Oh I know about that yeah it’s not that far it’s open on Friday & Saturday. I’ve only seen about one black vendor.
“if you want representation, just make your own video game!”
- someone who will never have to make a video game themselves in order to see characters who look like them
- also someone who has no idea how funding and distribution works
- also someone who complains about not being represented in said game if it actually did get made
^^^^
Yep. Those who are used to being seen always complain about the ONE TIME they didn’t get shown…
