“I don’t mind it… getting cold. It’s fine. This is…” Sky didn’t really have words for what this was beyond having already called it “perfect.” It just was. He thought about what his life had been like before Sam, and he couldn’t remember much about it except the feeling that it hadn’t been nearly as happy. Their life together was the best part of his universe, and that Sam had taken this step was a big deal. Even if Sky had discouraged him from doing it, and he decided not to mention his own plans to propose to Sam that were cancelled out by this. He wondered if he should give Sam the ring he’d bought, but he wasn’t sure if Sam had a ring for himself. “Do you have a ring? Like mine, I mean…”

Sam shook his head. “I didn’t know I was supposed to buy a ring for myself. Not sure how these things work really.” Sam didn’t know anything about proposing, only that you need a ring. The ring for Sky was the most important thing in his proposal. It made every thing more real. “I honestly was scared to propose to you. I thought you would have said no, since we just moved in together, and since you kind of shot the idea down when we were talking about it online. Gavin kinda encouraged me to go through with it.” He smiled slightly, eyes looking over the ring he gave Sky. “If you don’t like the ring, we can exchange it for something more traditional if you want.”

Looking down at his finger for a moment, it was hard to believe there was actually a ring on it. Sky was engaged. Sky and Sam were actually engaged. They were actually going to be married, and his parents didn’t even know they’d moved in together. He kissed Sam firmly, resting their foreheads together and closing his eyes, enjoy the moment as Sam said he loved him again. “I love you… I can’t believe this is happening.” Opening his eyes, he pulled back to look at him and laughed. “I mean… I can. We’ve talked about this, but… it’s still so…” He searched for a word to describe what life with Sam felt like for him, and finally managed to say, “Perfect.” It wasn’t a stretch to call it that. No one and nothing had ever made Skylar so happy. “This is… you’re amazing. This is amazing. I love you.” Kissing him again, he sighed happily against his lips, not minding that his breakfast was probably getting cold.

Sam loved that Skylar was just as excited about them being engaged as he was. He didn’t know what to do with himself. Sky was by far the best person he ever dated and the last person he ever wanted to be with. Sam wasn’t scared about that at all. He loved Sky, more than words could describe. “Perfect is the best word babe. This is all just so perfect.” Sam didn’t know what was going to happen after this, but as long as Sky was by his side, he didn’t care. Sam smiled into the second kiss, cupping Sky’s face and kissing him with all the love and passion he felt for him. He pulled away gently, foreheads still touching. “This is the start of our life together... well not yet, but it feels like it.” Sam pulled back and looked at their breakfast. “I knew I should have did it after you ate. I can warm everything up for us if you want.”

Sky blushed at the compliment to his cooking, happy that he could do something Sam appreciated like that. He just liked to cook, and that he could do it for the man he loved made him even happier. Moving the tray off to the side, he turned toward Sam to listen as he explained what the box was about. His surprise in the moment made his chest ache a little, but that ache was mostly good. It was hilarious to him that Sam was proposing now, after Sky had deterred him from doing it recently. He’d panicked a little when Sam was talking about it online, worried his boyfriend would beat him to the punch then. Sky had been thinking about proposing since their four month anniversary, looking at rings and making dinner plans for the proposal he’d planned to do on the night of their fifth. But with this breakfast, Sam had beaten him by twelve hours. It was hilarious, and Sky had to admit to loving it. Staring down at the ring, he started to grin, overwhelmed in the best possible way, and as he reached out a hand to take Sam’s free one, he nodded and said, “Yes… definitely. Yes.”

Sam was so nervous about Sky’s answer. He didn’t know why though. He knew Sky loved him and that Sky wanted a future with him, but he also knew that Sky was practical and would probably tell him no, they have to slow down or something to that affect. But Sam was banking on Sky’s romantic side to accept his proposal. Sky was just as impulsive and romantic like Sam, and he was looking to that for Sky to accept his proposal. When Sky said yes, The biggest smile appeared on Sam’s face. He didn’t even know what to say, so he took the ring out of the box and placed it on Sky’s left ring finger. “I realized I probably should have gotten down on one knee, and I’m sorry about that... but oh my god... you’re my fiance. I’m engaged, and this is surreal. Like you just said yes... oh my god, we’re getting married.” Sam couldn’t stop talking. He was just really happy about the whole thing. He finally stopped his rambling and planted a big kiss on Sky’s lips. “Thank you for accepting my proposal babe. I love you so much.”

“Happy Anniversary… I love you too.” Rubbing his eyes again, everything started to focus for Sky, and he reached for a fork, stabbing a piece of pancake with it to give it a taste. He was certain Sam had made everything perfectly, and the bite he took confirmed that the pancakes were amazing. “So good,” he murmured, not waiting to finish chewing before speaking. He was enthusiastic about this - Sam had cooked for him! It was wonderful, and knowing that he’d taken lessons from Mercy made it even more touching. That Sam wanted to try that just for him made him feel incredibly loved. Finishing the bite, he set the fork down, preparing to move the tray out of the way for just a moment, intending to turn toward Sam to kiss him. As he took the tray in his hands, he noticed a small black box sitting on it and frowned slightly, unsure of what he was looking at. “What’s the box, babe?”

Sam was glad that Sky seemed to love the pancakes and the thought that went behind the cooking. That was a relief. He leaned how to put something together just for Sky. “You’re an awesome cook and you are always cooking for me, so I thought I cook for you.” When the moment came from the box, Sam didn’t even know how to answer it or what to say. Should he open it or let Sky open it. He took a breath before turning more to him. “Sky, my life changed the day I met you." He let out a shaky breath. Just say it Sam! "I want to wake up to you every day for the rest of my life, love you until my heart stops beating." He slid his hand down to the box, picked it up, and slowly opened it, showing Sky the ring "Skylar Cole, will you marry me?”

It had been a long few days. Sky was exhausted from work, and that combined with all the work he’d been doing in his new training program had made it easy to sleep Sunday night. And he’d slept straight through Sam getting out of bed the next morning, straight through him cooking. It wasn’t until Sam came in with the tray that he stirred, rubbing his bleary eyes as he tried to focus on what Sam was placing in front of him. He steadied the tray as he sat up, adjusting to get more comfortable and running a hand through his messy hair as he yawned a “Good morning.” His vision wasn’t focused just yet, and he could tell there was food on the tray, but didn’t see much else. “Did you cook, babe? This is amazing. Thank you.” Smiling at Sam, he said, “This smells really good. I’ll eat it as soon as I can see it.”

Sam was really nervous about this whole thing. He began second guessing himself about the when to propose. Should it be after they eat or should it be before? Sam decided to get out of his head. It was too late, the ring was already on the tray. He would propose to Sky as soon as he saw it. He knew he should have planned better, and he began regretting his plan. He moved to his side of the bed and settled next to Sky and took a breath. “I cooked everything myself. Mercy gave me some private lessons though. I hope it taste as good as it smells though.” Sam bit his lips. “I just want to say happy 5 month anniversary. I love you so much and I’m so glad that I’ve met you.” He smiled tensely as he waited for Sky to see the meal and the black box.
