i think being proud of where you come from is one of those things that becomes fun the more specific you get. like "proud to be english" bad rancid vibes. makes you sound like the kind of person who rants about immigrants. "proud to be from yorkshire" better vibes. i cannot deny the yorkshire cultural heritage. "proud to be from pocklington" absolutely fucking hilarious please never let anybody kill your pocklington pride.

The one and only time I posted something negative about Taylor Swift, I got more anon hate than I have collectively gotten from TERFs in two years of this blog existing

it is funny when people who don’t draw tell people who do “i can’t even draw a circle”. a shape that is notoriously difficult for artists to get right on the first try. or “i can’t even draw a straight line,” something many artists literally have to practice drawing over and over again as a warmup exercise

“i can barely draw a stick figure” so that’s like step 1 of learning to draw people. you are at the same stage and level of skill that every other artist started out with 👍

i think some of you are missing the point. people who don’t draw need to stop using self deprecation as a way to compliment artists and stop discounting the effort people put into their art. stop dismissing the work they put into learning, the time and labor it took to master the basics and anything beyond. art is a skill that you must refine and practice, no one starts out automatically great at art, and tbh i don’t even want to entertain the theoretical concept of innate talent and ability simply because people who don’t have a desire or who think themselves too untalented or dumb to learn will use that as an excuse to not even try, to alienate themselves from certain creative elements that anyone could attempt and enjoy, on the basis that they are just inherently inept and have no ability to improve. so many of the “naturally gifted” artists you look up to once thought the same about other artists, but lamenting about your ineptitude only motivates you to stand still and never progress. if you want to learn to draw, you can. but you have to try and be willing to admit that it is something you can get better at, even if you think you’re terrible now

So imagine you go to a brothel and when you get there it’s full of beautiful women but then also there’s this dog. And when you ask “hey what’s with the dog” they’re like oh the dog, we love the dog, everybody loves the dog, the dog collects rocks from the yard. And you’re like “okay” but later you find the dog gathering piles of rocks and cementing them into a beautiful river-stone wall to protect the building. And you’re like “I didn’t even know dogs could do that”. And they’re like “that’s nothing, check this out” and then the dog starts doing multiplication with the rocks. You’re like “what the fuck” and they go “nahh she’s just getting started”. And they start giving the dog complex mathematical formulas that the dog answers by laying out the rocks. And you go “holy shit that’s the smartest dog I’ve ever seen”. And they go “it’s the smartest dog in the world” and you’re like “wow that’s amazing”. And then you look outside and the dog is eating the rocks. And you’re like “can the dog eat rocks?”. And they’re like “no”

One day you find out the dog went missing. “We don’t know where the dog went but we miss the dog”, the beautiful women tell you. A year later the dog comes back. The dog is accompanied by the Duke of wales. “My gardener stole this dog but now I would like to buy it”, he says. “The dog has built me a beautiful castle and solved the viscount’s mysterious murder.” You aren’t sure how the dog did that by stacking rocks but you’re still incredibly impressed. The beautiful women are so happy to see the dog again. “Did you know that the dog can ride a bike?” The Duke asks. You look at the dog. The dog is obviously concealing a mouth full of gravel

This is the post that enticed me to watch apothecary diaries and now that I am watching apothecary diaries I am constantly pointing at the very deliberately cat-coded character, whose name is 'cat-cat', and shouting 'this dog can EAT ROCKS?'.

I usually have limited tolerance for shows that feature too much of the drama that exists within palaces and/or high society, but I'm starting to think I should give this one a shot.

Apothecary Diaries is so funny. The ladies in waiting look at Maomao and are like ohmigosh a poor adorable abused puppy we must smother her in love and teach her our ways 😍 and the concubines are all like she saved my life and she saved my baby and she's so brave and smart and we love her so much and jinshi and everyone else is heart eyes about her and meanwhile Maomao is like el chupacabra in the corner barfing up goat bones

Despite being an actual cat she’s like a dog that scarfed down a brownie with all of her poisons, and poor Jinshi and Gaoshun are just there like “SPIT IT OUT. SPIT IT OUT. SPIT IT OUT.”

Thank-you to all of my new Internet stranger friends for being so gracious about having my post shoved onto your dashboards. I loved reading all of your kind tags and comments! Both Martin and Bosco have been gone for several years now but for 24 hours, they felt very present in my life. I greatly appreciate this gift. ❤️
