what i mean: we know beth deified her father, but that season finale really hammered home how much. she gave her father complete control over her life. she would have left her husband and kids if HE wanted her to, but really what she wanted from him was honesty and vulnerability. rather than recognize her emotional needs, rick did the rick thing and took the coward’s tone deaf way out by using science to have his cake and eat it too. it’s like what beth was saying that she asked him to make her all those gadgets as a kid because she wanted him to spend time with her. she left her life up to him because ultimately she wanted him to tell her to stay because HE wanted her to stay. she wanted him to need her, and rick COMPLETELY missed the point yet again lmao. if you keep saying you don’t need anyone, they’re eventually going to stop needing you. rick is constantly contradicting himself between caring/not caring, but no one is going to tolerate that hot-and-cold attitude forever, and now he’s finally reaping what he’s sowed.
