What do u think are the mbti types for Zuko, Aang, Katara, Sokka, Toph, Mai, Ty Lee, Azula, Suki and Iroh??
aang: INFP. letās just dispel the ENFP arguments early on: aangās Ne is far too all over the place, unrefined, and childish to be his dominant function. he uses Ne to AVOID solving his problems. why? because heās very bad at using Te. ENFPs have an Ne-Te loop, which enables them to buckle down and get things done; the very opposite of aang, whose instinct is an Fi-Si loop: nope, canāt look at this objectively, donāt want to, not dealing with it, if i canāt see it itās not there, itās my fault, i shouldāve been better, why am i like this? (aang is very prone to looping, actually: he wonāt learn firebending again because of hurting katara, he stews in misery about the monks and abandoning the monks a lot). aang is GOOD at Fi; so good, in fact, that he has learned to balance it out: he can compromise on his emotions, and does, in a way that works for him. & when aang falls into a grip after appa goes missing, it is a Te grip: a babyish, poorly executed attempt at viciously purging all emotion and aggressively dismissing everyone elseās feelings. but aangās story is primarily tailored to himself. it is about aang, learning to be the avatar. it is about aang, existing, rationalizing these parts of himself as the child who must save the world, the 100 year old kid, the chosen one who never wanted to be, and what he must sacrifice (or more tellingly, refuse to sacrifice) in order to get there. aang is not driven by a grand sense of humanitarianism nor does he strive for reform. he is driven by duty, morals, and tradition. his story begins and ends with aang, being uniquely aang, rejecting destiny and choosing his own path. he maintains his morals steadfastly, and bases them on his upbringing.
katara:Ā ESFJ. i once typed katara as an Fi; INFP, i think, but itās been awhile since i watched the show and i forgot one very key element: the moralizing. AT people. lecturing them. trying actively to influence their decisions. she is involved in other peopleās lives. it is natural for her to assume this role. she is traditional, often falling into caretaker roles, but she has a keen sense of justice that causes her to stand up for herself when she is wronged. katara DOES repeatedly disregard group consensus to do what she thinks is right, but ultimately that is because she is acting on a humanitarian need to help anyone and everyone. she is prone to mothering roles, and it takes her a long time to get over past wrongs.
sokka: ISTJ. sokka is a traditional personāhe aspires to be a man of his tribe, like his father before him, and takes the promise he made very seriously. sometimes to the detriment of his sister, who he just expects to do the housework because thatās what women do. sokka likes to form plans and stick to them. it grates on his nerves endlessly when heās around people who donāt use logicāsee the entire episode with the secret tunnel, and the whole episode he spends trying to convince people not to believe in psychics. he is a self stated believer in observable, testable science. but sometimes he falls back on trusting what he was taught over what is objectively a good idea: see, cactus juice. typically though, heās the voice of reason, which is a necessity because both aang and katara are prone to getting sidetracked and doing things like running up to glowing icebergs without heed for danger. heās wary of new people and it takes him a long time to get over past wrongs (jet, zuko). he can be rather dismissive about other peopleās emotions when he feels theyāre being irrational (katara usually gets the brunt of it) but heās so witty in his dismissals that it doesnāt read as coldness (heās a great ISTJ, the closest representation iāve ever seen to how they are irl). heās traditional, but also responsible and with enough balance that he realizes when itās time to leave his home in pursuit of a greater goal (again, EXCELLENT ISTJ: heās GOOD at using Si and knows how to keep it in check). heās exceptionally witty, which a lot of ISTJs actually are: itās inferior Ne Doing Itās Best.
zuko: INFP. zuko is clearly an Fi dominant, whose journey is about rationalizing his own view of himself with his worldview. he is introspective to the point of being chronically insecure, lives his life by contradicting opinions of right and wrong which agonize him all the while making sense to him personally. he is singular in his belief systems and never fails to have a unique and distinct worldview from those around him, whether it be aang or ozai or iroh. i think i originally said ISFP and thatās primarily because his fight style is so combative and he tends to have explosive reactions to things, but thatās not enough. zuko falls into an Fi-Si loop in which he obsesses over past failures and bases his self worth on this traumatizing moment, becoming increasingly destructive and angry the more he dwells on it. heās wrapped up in the feelings, loses perspective, and the key to breaking out is to reevaluate his worldview: in other words, he activates Ne. classic unhealthy Fi, zuko has promoted himself judge, jury, and executioner over right and wrong. as he soul searches and pursues new ways of framing his thinking with Ne, however, zuko is finally able to reconcile the war within himself.
toph: ESFP.Ā i have seen toph frequently typed as a thinker (ISTP, to be exact), and to this i must say: HILARIOUS. at what point do you think tophās stubborn temper tantrums, acting out, disagreeing with the group out of spite and stubbornness, and running away from home was a LOGIC driven thing? she is pure feeling, pure independence, pure going after what she wants. and tophās default state is clearly to push back; physically, and emotionally. she rebels, she pushes her limits, she goes above and beyond whatās expected of her. she has no issue with provoking conflict, and seems to actively enjoy it. sheās prone to always being in trouble, and yet sheās always askingĀ āwell, what next?ā bc the thrill of it excites her. she DEFINITELY has an Se-Te loop: confront things head on, stand your ground,Ā āif you werenāt going to block it, you couldāve at least stood there and let it crush you!ā
uncle iroh: INFJ.Ā (u have to have at LEAST one INFJ mentor in any piece of fantasy fiction worth its salt). iroh is exceptionally good at giving out advice; he is highly emotionally attuned to other peopleās needs, and often knows precisely what they need. he is gently and lovingly assisting zuko on the right path, sometimes so subtly zuko doesnāt even realize he is guiding him. he clearly always knew zuko would do the right thing, in the end. iroh knows a lot more in general than he lets on; the game of the white lotus is a good example. he is comfortable making progress behind the scenes.
azula: ENTJ.Ā she is a predisposed leader; she fits the bill of royalty better than zuko could ever hope to. giving out orders and taking command comes naturally to her, and she is very good at it. azula spends very little time self reflecting; she has formed her moral code based on what she was taught as a child, and feels no need to revise it. sheās devilishly clever and excellent at putting plans in motion and playing the long gameāher takeover of ba sing sae was planned in detail and flawlessly executed. she is comfortable always looking towards what the fire nation could be, will be, should be. she has a brutal ability to quickly assess peopleās weaknesses and exploit them. she takes instinctively to firebending and is virtually a prodigy who relies on instinct. consistent with the downfall of most NTJ antagonists, she fails in the end because she underestimates the value of how much people care, and how much those feelings canāt just be stamped out and brushed asideāĀ āi love zuko more than i fear youā is by far the most explicit and the most chilling example
ty lee: ESFJ. sheās chatty, friendly, even apologizes to people for hitting them. she loves flirting and is good at it. she harbors a lot of hurt from her past. she ultimately craves inclusion as part of a group: she runs away from home and joins the circus To Be Different, but then eventually goes back to being part of a matched set and appears happier than ever.
mai: ESFP. mai gets bored very easily. she hates being inactive, waiting around. sheās highly in tune with her emotions but doesnāt express them; she shows incredible restraint and gets angry when zuko calls her unfeeling just because sheās not hotheaded.
suki: ESTP. suki is another fighter who has excellent surveillance of her surroundings. sheās always motivated to action: notice her jumping in at boiling rock without any plan. sheās clever, resourceful, and generally pretty friendly and good at reading people and getting them to like her.
bonus: avatar roku: ISFJ.Ā doesnāt see his own avatar reveal coming, first instinct is to reflect on how his life will change, deep respect for past friendship to the point of clouded judgement, treasures his gift from sozin even after their friendship ends, returns to his old flame, believes friendships can transcend lifetimes, struggles most with the element most opposite his native element (which is not just an avatar thing, though it affects aang too, another Si type. korra and kyoshi, both ESFPs, have no such hindrance), objects to sozinās plan because it contradicts what he knows to be true (āthe four nations are meant to be just that: four!ā)
