The Hindu Newspaper contradicts itself about India’s Temple Flower recycling program
Recently, the Hindu wrote an article that sought to establish some “pioneers” in temple flower waste recycling in the year 2018, whereas one of their own reporters in 2014 had written about the “Society for Child Development though its livelihood program Trash to Cash” doing this work since 2002. For the uninitiated - here are the links in chronological order published by The Hindu. 1. Waste effort - by Preeti MehraFEBRUARY 05, 2014 19:53 ISThttps://www.thehindu.com/features/metroplus/society/waste-effort/article5657209.ece 2. Recycling temple waste along the Ganges with Help Us Green - Nidhi AdlakhaSEPTEMBER 22, 2018 11:26 ISThttps://www.thehindu.com/life-and-style/the-worlds-first-biodegradable-thermocol-and-flower-leather-by-ankit-agarwals-kanpur-based-organisation-help-us-green/article25013953.ece Recycling waste temple flowers to clean our rivers while also creating organic products is one of many programs that Society for Child Development initiated to create equal opportunities for people with disabilities. Many other agencies have also reported this work!
In a country like India, all efforts in keeping the enviornment clean is to be lauded, but Dear Nidhi Adlakha, to use a term like “pioneer” in a Nationally circulated newspaper requires you to be very very careful. What does this term really mean? Type “pioneer” in google and in 0.48 seconds you will get the answer. Really, I checked … on google.
Right here and now, as stated a couple of lines earlier, India needs all hands on board to clean the environment, my truck is with trying to place the creative onus on untruthful shoulders. Your article Madam Nidhi reports alternative facts. You write (Quote … unquote) so confidently “…he has pioneered the flowercycling technology…”
Yet, in 2014, Preeti Mehra wrote “Today Trash to Cash collects flowers from 60 temples and 11 hotels across the city and teams up with six NGOs in the disability sector to produce packet after packet of eco-friendly colour.” …
Apart from the reporter, Nidhi Adlakha, my comments are also directed at the current Editor of The Hindu, who, I assume, is finally responsible for the authenticity of all articles and news reports published.
As a last point ….. I would like to take a moment more to reflect with my dear Readers, the citizens who depend on news to keep them informed and close to the truth. Who are we? Who are these people? Whether it is a politician, a policeman, a NGO or a journalist; why is truth regularly contorted for personal benefit? Is this the crux of our culture, our nation? Also read … https://www.uschamberfoundation.org/bio/madhumita-puri A piece by the U.S Chambers of Commerce. Here is a paragraph from this article …“Madhumita’s flagship program of using waste flowers from temples to make colors for Holi and incense sticks earned her the UN-ESCAP Disability-inclusive Entrepreneurial Business in the Asia-Pacific region in 2013; and the National Award for Best Institution from the Government of India in 2009.” …
