any of these rocks edible?
Actually, yes! Specifically the Halite specimens. Not that I would recommend attempting to eat it, despite it being literal rock salt. It definitely tastes exactly like regular salt. Not that I would know from experience. Nope, definitely never tried a little nibble of Halite before. Never happened.
(It should be noted that Halite isn’t edible in the sense that you should use it to season your food. It is, however, part of a geologist’s initiation to at least lick a piece of halite at some point.)
where do you get your minerals ???
Most of my gemstones come from local gem shows and online shops from Etsy. I’m the biggest fan of Structure Minerals!
I'm just getting into gemstones and crystals. I was wondering where I can buy pieces, either in person or online. I don't know where to start haha 🙃
I apologize for the late response! Tumblr doesn’t always show me when I have new messages, so I often forget to check!
To answer your question: I’d suggest looking into local gem shows in your area first. Sometimes vendors will have prices that a little too much, but less so than if you were to shop at metaphysical sellers (I’ve seen many sellers charge higher prices due to metaphysical properties If you’re willing to pay extra, then feel free!). Online shops are also a good resource! Choose a gemstone you like and check out what people normally sell things for. A seller I absolutely adore is Structure Minerals on Etsy. Their prices are fair in my opinion, and they post accurate descriptions so I know exactly what I’m buying. Many of the pieces I post on here were purchased from either Structure Minerals or a local gem show.
Another thing to take into account is learning what determines a stone’s price. Some sellers will charge less for stones with certain imperfections (personally, I love the weird outlier gems), and certain stones will have increased value based on where they were mined from (looking at you, Veracruz Amethyst!). In the end, however, a crystal is worth what you’re willing to pay for it. I have some pieces that I know I spent a little too much on, but I don’t regret a single purchase.
I hope this helps! It’s always exciting to see people eager to join the gem community!
Gorgeous little Rosasite with Hemimorphite crystals! I’d been in a slump for a while and hadn’t purchased many new minerals. Thankfully a gem show just happened (although this little one is from an online shop), so now I’ve got plenty of new gems to photograph for a while!

Finally found a new piece that caught my eye! Apopyhllite with Stilbite. Photos don't do it justice
It’s been a while since I’ve posted any rocks. This is mostly due to the fact that I currently work in jewelry, and my obsession has evolved to now be “rocks encased in shiny metal.”
Never been one for statement jewelry, but I knew this Labradorite ring was meant for me the second I saw it.
Hi there, how much do you generally pay for all your minerals? And what's your most expensive one and the cost of it if that's okay?
Hello! On average, most of my collection is between $20-$40. As for the most expensive, I’ve managed to stay under $100 (so far haha). I believe it was a nice celestite cluster for around $80. Unfortunately I don’t remember exactly which one it is since it was a while ago and I have A LOT of celestite haha
Stunning, glass-like piece of Tourmaline. I’m so incredibly in love with this piece
Absolutely love the deep blue color of this Lazulite cluster. Might photograph it again after washing some of the dust off.

Delicate Rhodochrosite crystals.
Going through more old pics and finding others I never posted. Here’s a lovely piece of Zincite (smelter growth)
Tiny Vivianite blades. So glad to have a piece of this in the collection!
Wonderfully colorful chalcopyrite! I was super fortunate to find a piece that shows so many vivid color variations.
Looks like I forgot to post some new crystals, whoops! Tourmaline is dangerously close to taking Celestite’s place as my favorite.

Gorgeous Mojave turquoise ring! A friend invited me to a local flea market today and it turned out to be the best idea (except for my poor wallet!)
Was going through old pictures and realized that I apparently never posted these! Gorgeous raw amber
