"The Last of Us" Movie News from San Diego Comic-Con

A film based on the enormously popular video game, The Last of Us, was officially announced last March.

According to reports from the Screen Gems panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Maisie Williams, known for her role as Arya Stark on HBO’s Game of Thrones, is in talks to play Ellie, the female lead. Williams is yet to sign on to the role, but she has met with the film’s casting director.

The film is still very early in development. Sam Raimi is set to produce through his Ghost House Pictures production company. Naughty Dog’s creative director and writer Neil Druckmann will pen the script.

The script will have some changes from the game’s story. Initially Druckmann wanted the film to have a different ending, but Raimi convinced the writer to stick with the game’s original ending.

According to Druckmann, Naughty Dog has final approval on both the casting and directing of the film.
