(   *  💀  /  emre bey, cismale, he/him  )  —  is that castor atlas avery i just saw rushing down the corridor? i hear they’re a twenty-one year old slytherin, returning for their seventh school year, but their friends would tell you that they are loyal & sharp as well as scathing & devious. if you want to know more about them, i guess i could tell you that they’re pureblood, and from what i hear, they’re currently allying with the death eaters. when our divination professor looks into their crystal ball, they see: your vague reflection through shards of glass, a shit eating grin plastered on, laughter coursing through your veins as you take down your enemies with a flick of your wand, an unforgivable sea that could swallow you up at any given moment, a collection of houseplants, greek mythology lore.

   lucius was happy that he liked all of his dormmates - it was nice that the group of them hadn’t murdered each other by now and that they were all going through similar things. a lot of them marked by now. castor, as lame as he could be at times, was someone that lucius truly appreciated. he could keep it real with him at all times, so he’s glad that when he bursts through the door of their common room, that it is only him around. “only your mother, avery.” eyes roll, throwing down his bookbag with a heavy sigh, practically tossing his body against the sofa with all of his might too. “i wish i was shagging narcissa on the daily, forget about snogging. nothing’s happened there yet.” working slow? or struggling? castor wasn’t a stranger to his stories of all his hookups, he’d surely know it was the former. “i’m sick of all this escorting shit. i haven’t got a free moment to myself because that insufferable headmaster of ours doesn’t know how to run a fucking school.” it was nice that a lot of the students didn’t know how to defend themselves, but he was totally over it now. “you want my prefect role? please? i hate it.”

          no  one  can  argue  that  they’re  not  cut  from  the  exact  same  cloth  ,  equally  as  terrible  and  malicious  to  the  same  degree  ,  with  no  regard  or  sympathy  for  anyone  else  ,  no  less  a  house  elf  .  miserable  creatures  really  and  an  eye  sore  at  best  .  “  oh  ,  it  could  have  and  i  wish  it  had  .  the  sight  of  that  old  ,  wrinkly  ball  sack  was  enough  for  me  to  starve  myself  .  i  had  to  banish  it  from  the  room  every time  i  was  about  to  eat  a  meal  ,  ”  somehow  ,  he’s  the  one  hard  done  by  ,  the  one  that  was  suffering  ,  and  not  their  literal  slave  .  “  i  say  you  do  .  my  only  regret  is  not  doing  it  myself  ,  ”  truly  awful  people  ,  discussing  taking  a  life  like  one  would  talk  about  what  they  had  for  breakfast  ,  completely  detached  .  his  eyebrows  shoot  up  in  inquisition  and  his  body  leans  forward  ever  so  slightly  ,  lowering  his  voice  ,  “  why  just  almost  ?  couldn’t  go  through  with  it  ?  ”  teasing  ,  of  course  .  there  must  be  a  reason  and  it  isn’t  that  he  doesn’t  have  it  in  him  ,  demetrius  knows  that  all  too  well  .  his  laugh  isn’t  one  that  people  like  to  hear  ;  a  noise  only  associated  with  bad  things  and  now  it’s  loud  ,  the  worst  possible  sign  ,  “  see  ?  this  is  why  i  like  you  ,  you’re  an  ideas  man  .  i’ll  make  sure  to  sign  the  card  from  both  of  us  .  ” 

❛  i was interrupted by some guests. i’m pretty sure it would have happened though.  ❜  he chuckles darkly, discarding his quill to the side and stretching. castor knows he’ll eventually have to kill; it was practically in the contract when he signed up to be a devoted follower to the dark lord, and he was sure he wouldn’t have any qualms taking the life of a mudblood when the time calls for it. like his father, he had a legacy to protect and to continue. but for now he had to focus on getting the hell out of hogwarts. castor yawned once more, indicating that he was done dealing with his homework for the time being. to be fair he was almost done with the institute all together, however he had a reputation to uphold.  ❛  of course you do. i mean who wouldn’t ? aside from the very obvious people beneath us.  ❜  he snorts with a smug expression.  ❛  but the feeling is mutual, there’s never a dull moment when you’re around. and please, it would be an honor to have it signed on my behalf. but you wanna know what would take the biscuit in all this ? if we can charm it to make it talk.  ❜

The world seemed to have stopped just as her breathing became uneven, a breath stuck in her throat. Her lips became dry, her name had never sounds so good following his, a painful feeling she would pay for latter in the darkness of the night when her demons liked to come out to play with her in the most unkind of ways. That morning she had pulled a couple of cards for herself, it said there was something she wanted coming her way, something she had dreamed for a long time but it wouldn’t be anything she had dreamed it to be. Well, this sure looked like the omen of the cards. Cheeky little things, they hunted her most of the time rather than helped, it was a love hate relationship with her own skills. The only thing that ripped her away from such thought has been the pounding of her heart against her chest, she had felt like this for the last time two years ago, her heart always threaten to rip through her chest one beat at a time anytime he was near by. One would think two years was more than enough time to get over a broken heart, but her broken pieces had never stopped loving him. No matter how hard she tried. 

Sybill couldn’t lie, she had stolen glances from him any chance she got, even being in the same classes was enough for her some days, peeping through her curtain of her to see his perfectly shaped face. And as destiny had it, one more time they would be intertwined with one another even if it was just for a class for a little while. She was in a way thankful for it, even if when it came to an end she would be just as devastated as she was two years ago. His voice was like a bucket of cold water in a hot summer day, chilling waking her up from her thoughts, but much appreciated. She lifted her head slowly as she looked up to him, her best dashing smiled spreading on her face as her blue hues met his. “So it seems,” her words were dripping with honey, she would never let him see how much it affected her to have him near her, she would kill with kindness, that was always her motto. “Come take a seat, we can start discussing how we want to divide this.” She said as she scooted over on the desk bench, her lingering gaze finally leaving him as she began to open the book on the assigned page. Pretending he was just another classmate was painful, but she was confident she could do it. 

how she could be so calm after all this time truly baffled him. then again, she could be putting up an act. a very good one. he wasn’t so sure anymore though. the line between pretense and authenticity was very much blurred. in fact his whole mind was a blur right now. he couldn’t even remember how he had approached her to begin with. for the first time in a long time, castor was met with a situation that was far out of his control. he wasn’t the one commanding the narrative now. it was very much different and he couldn’t shake the odd feeling balling up in the pit of his stomach. in his whole lifetime castor had rarely experienced nervous inducing situations. the strange and foreign feeling had imbued his whole being at the moment, and he was not liking it one bit. if it were up to him he’d run away in that instant but that was definitely out of the question. so what more could he do ? he was an avery and he had to get a grip on himself.

as in many occasions, it was easier said than done. through hidden clenched fists and tensions in every fiber of his muscles, castor managed to nerve himself. it was harder than he could ever imagine, sitting so close to her, taking in her familiar scent, the sweet cadence in her voice entrancing him. lulling him. it had always been that way and it still remains, her mere presence had such an effect on him. but just as quick he snapped out of it. he couldn’t, shouldn’t be taken on a whim like this. his family and friends would no doubt demonstrate their disapproval. marked as a betrayal and castor wasn’t disloyal. there was also his engagement; he couldn’t deny that his feelings for his betrothed were getting serious. his future path was carved out for him and he couldn’t go against the current. as much as it hurt him to admit it once again, it truly was a mistake, however beautiful it was.  ❛  i think it’s all settled then.  ❜  he spoke quietly, almost forced.

          ANY CONGENIALITY GRANTED TO CASTOR has vanished, and severus can no longer conceal his irritation underneath a veneer of impassivity just for propriety’s sake. it’s a tremendous labor of — well, he wouldn’t call it love, but it’s certainly laborious to reckon with castor’s remarkably short-fused focus alongside a subject that requires a delicate hand, perception and precision combined.  “  your attention is elsewhere.  ”  he shuts his copy of advanced potion-making pointedly, as if accusing castor of a much worse offense in the exaggerated thud of the hardcover.  “  if you’ve found i’m wasting your precious time, by all means, torment yourself in remedial potions among hogwarts’ finest collection of dimwitted morons.  ”  severus’ drawl is more flippant than contemptuous, his spidery fingers collapsing on top of each another as he scowls at castor through narrowed eyes.  “  i could do without the chronic headaches you cause me.  ” 

there was something about potion making that castor couldn’t stand. he wasn’t going to lie that potions in and of itself were remarkable substances that could lend you leverage in just about anything. it was the process of concocting that was just so tedious. it seemed easy at first sure, just mix a few ingredients here and there but there was much more to it and that’s where all interest took a nose dive. really castor admired the younger for his affinity in the subject though, it almost left him in awe with how much zeal and sheer concentration the other put forth. not to mention his expended energy in his attempt to tutor him.  ❛  sorry mate, i was thinking of how good your hair smells. did you make yourself a hair potion ? it looks shinier than before.  ❜  he flicked a few dark tendrils away from severus’ face, simpering as he winked at them.

rabastan !!  

  “  i  speak  to  snakes  every  day   ,   ”   he  replied   ,   a  slight  smirk  gracing  his  normally  impassive  features   .    despite  what  some  people  might  assume  about  the  boy   ,   rabastan  noticed  things   .   he  may  not  talk  about  it  often   ,   may  not  talk  about  many  things   ,   but  it  would  be  wrong  to  assume  he  was  blind  to  what  was  happening  around  him   .   several  years  around  the  same  people   ,   he  was  bound  to  spot  someone  new   .    “   her  name  is  nisha   .   ”    rab  wasn’t  completely  heartless   .   he  had   ,   after  all   ,   bothered  to  remember  her  name   .   “   you  might  think  standards  are  lacking   ,   but  i  can’t  imagine  you’d  be  disappointed  with  this  one   .    ”   he  wasn’t  aware  of  her  veela  background   .    wasn’t  aware  he  had  been  entranced    .    he  saw  a  successful  attempt  at  eugenics  .   a  beauty  to  be  possessed   .   luckily  for  him   ,   rab  wasn’t  allowed  pretty  jewels    .   it  was  one  of  the  reasons  he  kept  harper  a  secret   .   “   oi   !   bloody  hell   ,   cas   …  what   ?   is  he  supposed  to  follow  them  around   ?   watch  ‘em  piss  and  all   ?    …   you  can  blame  the  cunt  for  a  lot  of  shit   ,   but  m’afraid  that’s  out  of  his  hands   .  ”

❛  why of course, you’re speaking to one right now.  ❜  the stone walls echoed with the gaiety of his laughter. castor was anything but a saint. he is a serpent through and through and what was the point in denying it, if only to mess with someone’s head. there was no room for shame, only pride. and the kind that’s been running through his veins since birth is the greatest indicator yet.  ❛  you even remembered her name. maybe you’re the one coveting her and to that i say go for it. have some fun, forget about all your demons for the time being.  ❜  he shrugged. it wasn’t like he was blind and he was sure the other fellow slytherins had seen the state the other had been in. the pressures of their family name in tandem with personal issues, no doubt, were in play. this was out of his division of expertise. merlin knows that influential families weren't exemplary in family dynamics. the most castor could provide was company.  ❛  yeah ? well maybe he shouldn’t have fucking hired a mudblood for the job. but if you ask me i’m glad it turned out that way. i hope that maggot’s death haunts him for the rest of his miserable life, knowing it was technically his fault. either way i blame him for everything that goes astray in this bloody castle.  ❜

faking a fever wasn’t as easy as the previous years but castor always managed to pull through with his plans. if he had to be admired for one thing then it would be for his unwavering mind. so thanks to this flair of his he was now in the infirmary away from his wretched muggles study class. madam pomfrey had gone out to collect some inventory which meant he was all by himself. he laid there, eyes closed and in complete silence for a while, until footsteps interrupted his peaceful air.  ❛  well, well, well, look what the kneazle dragged in.  ❜  castor rested the back of his head atop interlaced fingers, giving ariel a once over, making it very obvious he was checking her out.  ❛  no one’s here. we might have a few minutes, if you know what i mean.  ❜  he boldly added as a smirk settled onto his lips.

it wasn't his first time getting down and dirty in there. it was a decent place for the deed considering that not many frequented the location. however it did have a downside, that being moaning myrtle’s obnoxious presence. if she weren’t a ghost castor would have surely hexed her. at least now she got the memo that whenever castor came in here with a girl she knew better than to stick around and witness their frivolous fun.  ❛  well that was some unwinding.  ❜  castor sat up from the large makeshift cushion with a satisfying sigh, feeling refreshed and in better spirits.  ❛  it was worth skipping class over. can’t stand that lecture either way.  ❜  he finished slipping on just his boxers and trousers when the bathroom’s resident ghost appeared again.  ❛  oh great. she couldn’t have stayed away just a little longer i haven’t even finished changing for merlin’s sake. ❜

there was nothing more satisfying to him than watching plants making progress. granted he did build up such an insouciant attitude towards many things, but when it came to the care of plants and herbology it was a whole different story. ever since he could remember castor had always had an aptitude for plants. why he even has his own greenhouse at home dating back to his preteen years. one could say that he was dedicated and if it weren't for his carved future in death eater crusades—and his family name—he would have probably pursued a career in it. but unfortunately life had other plans for him and, like a river's flow, it was much easier to permit it to take its course. yet the what ifs were often in his ruminations from time to time, especially in a place such as this one. and so he was fully unaware when mercy had entered until he heard a loud crash.  ❛  you’re lucky those were tools and not plants,  ❜  he chastised with a playful undertone.

there was an indisputable flutter in his stomach when the professor had called out both their names together. who would have thought that after two years that name would still have an impact on him in that manner ? it was castor, after all, that had unduly ended what they had, and what they had was akin to something pure. golden. it was also something that should have never occurred in the first place. those clandestine moments were ensconced somewhere in his heart and mind now. it was all that remained, all that they were, just beautiful memories. sometimes vividly. they start to come back in a deluge and he forgets how to breathe for a moment. she was like a burst of fresh air in the morning you’d eagerly wanted to get engulfed in. it took every fiber of his being to painfully cease any contact with her; to painfully pretend he hadn’t seen her in the halls  (  and in this classroom for that matter, but he definitely wasn’t counting on getting paired up  ). 

as if that weren’t enough he also willed himself to believe he had never felt anything for her. how foolish he was to think they’d never cross paths again, the castle just wasn’t big enough. but he had done a superb job—for two whole years—until now. everything all of sudden came crashing down on him. the buried emotions were beginning to painfully claw their way up in whatever void he had stuffed them in. castor faltered for just a moment. regaining his composure was a challenge but eventually he mustered up enough courage to be the first to speak.  ❛  i guess we’re gonna be working on this project together.  ❜  the last word came out a bit awkward and slightly hitched. as bizarre as it felt on his tongue, the racing of his heart was now preoccupying his unsettled mind. the onset twitching of his fingers prompted him to shove his hands into his pockets, balling them up in tense fists there. castor avery was flustered.

one of his least favorite places in the castle would have to be the library. not only was it dreadfully boring but the librarian was beyond the most obnoxious being, always so strict and unpleasant.  ❛  miserable old bat.  ❜  castor whispered loudly, glowering towards the librarian’s direction. it wasn’t like he dropped the stack of books on purpose. the severe condemning he received subsequently was unwarranted.  ❛  one day i’ll give her a bloody scare you just watch.  ❜  he turned towards alexander with an indignant flare of his nostrils, practically shoving a book onto their chest.  ❛  i think this was what we were looking for.  ❜  he did a double take on the piece of paper in his hand.  ❛  yup, the divination thing of the thing blah blah.  ❜  he flipped the note around.  ❛  now we need the other bloody one—merlin, tessomancy is so fucking annoying. let me guess, i see lumps of rotten tea leaves in your future.  ❜  he gestured in an exaggerated approach before snickering.

          already  so  wickedly  cruel  on  their  own  ,  it  was  almost  bad  news  for  everyone  when  they  became  friends  ;  a  force  to  be  reckoned  with  and  people  would  not  try  willingly  .  it’s  no  surprise  that  they  get  on  so  well  ,  until  one  remembers  what  gigantic  ,  egotistical  narcissists  they  are  ,  a  shock  that  there  is  enough  room  for  both  of  their  egos  .  “  no  ,  it  took  this  long  for  my  father  to  finally  kill  it  ,  ”  he  can’t  know  that  for  certain  but  he  chooses  to  read  between  the  lines  ,  not  like  his  mother  to  tell  the  truth  ,  not  in  a  letter  that  could  be  intercepted  anyway  .  the  joke  causes  it’s  intended  reaction  ,  for  demetrius  to  laugh  ,  and  boy  ,  does  he  .  what  was  it  about  the  misfortune  of  others  that  caused  so  much  enjoyment  ?  “  my  worst  enemy  ?  now  ,  you  know  i  can’t  pick  just  one  .  i  could  always  just  mail  everyone  an  individual  body  part  ,  starting  with  mary  .  what  do  you  think  ?  ”

❛  oh ? it couldn’t have been any sooner. at least ours is tolerable but even then i have moments where i want to end its miserable life.  ❜  there was only one occasion where he had attempted it, that of which involved water. it wouldn’t have happened if it weren’t for the squib of his brother perseus. then again castor had a penchant for blaming everything on perseus whenever anything turned awry.  ❛  i almost drowned ours,  ❜  he added nonchalantly, tapping his quill successively against his notebook. he wondered now whether it would have made any difference if he had gone through with it. would mr. avery have shown any reaction ? regardless though, he did receive some form of approval when he got marked over the summer. it was enough to satiate castor’s hunger for parental attention for now. he shifted so that he was now resting his chin on his palm, smiling devilishly before laughing heartily.  ❛  you better do it though. but give her the taxidermied head. even better if her birthday comes up.  ❜  his laughter only became more vigorous after that. how they can be so insensitive was beyond anyone.

❛    if  you  didn’t  play  so  violently  ,  you  wouldn’t  be  here  .    ❜  penelope  replies  with  an  eye  roll  .  it’s  odd  for  her  to  think  that  quidditch  ,  while  not  the  safest  of  sports  -  is  far  from  the  most  danger  castor  might  put  himself  in  .  ❛    and  do  i  ?  i’ll  have  to  tell  cassandra  you  said  that  ,  she’ll  be  ever  so  pleased  .    ❜  she  teases  ,  glancing  back  to  the  game  momentarily  as  a  flash  of  emerald  drifts  by  .  ❛    as  long  as  she  doesn’t  know  it  comes  from  me  ,  i  suppose  .  i  doubt  she  cares  what  you  think  .    ❜
