As the second eldest in the latest generation of Demirci's, Hira was a daughter raised for a position of power only to find herself traded for peace. Rather than stepping right up into the ranks of her family's narcotics empire she was married off to help strengthen an alliance in her early 20's and spent the next four years locked in a toxic, loveless nightmare.
That all came to a head ( and an end ) seven years ago when Aslan Durmaz wiped out their entire syndicate and Hira suddenly found herself without a husband. She's spent every moment since proving she's of far better use back at her family's side than shipped off as someone else's politically convenient wife, eventually earning herself the role of second in command.

Duty defined Hira Demirci's life long before she was old enough to understand what it truly meant. Born the second child of Ahmet Demirci, she was raised beneath the quiet weight of expectation and taught that the family came before all else. That every privilege afforded by their name would one day demand an equal sacrifice.
Unlike some less fortunate daughters born into the underworld, Hira was never kept at arm's length. She sat in on meetings, learned the art of negotiation alongside the inevitability of drawing blood, memorized routes for their narcotics distribution as easily as her babaanne's mantฤฑ recipe, and grew up believing she and her eldest sibling were being prepared to shoulder the future of the organization together.
No, leadership was never presented as a promise, but it became the future she quietly built her entire identity around... until it wasn't. Until an opportunity to cement one of the Demircis' most valuable alliances via marriage came across her father's desk and he didn't hesitate to put Hira's name in the running.
It didn't matter that she'd only met the guy a handful of times, or that she was already quietly in love with another. The decision was made without malice and without room for discussion whether she liked it or not.
Whatever heartbreak she carried was buried beneath grace and obedience, though, and Hira moved north to New York City at his side, trading all those certainties and dreams of hers for the hope that fulfilling her duty would make the loss of her home and her first love easier to bear. Instead, the union became a prison hidden behind tailored suits, a lavish high-rise overlooking Central Park, and carefully curated appearances.
See, the man she married valued power above partnership, turning any semblance of affection into control and that control into cruelty. It didn't take long for Hira ro realize her marriage would never be anything more than something she'd have to prettily and painstakingly endure.
And she did, for far longer than even she thought capable. Then, seven years ago, when Aslan Durmaz's violent destruction of the allied syndicate found Hira's husband among the dead, their marriage and the alliance it assured her family collapsed as swiftly as his corpse.
Newly widowed, she fled back to Miami carrying ghosts masquerading as a grief nobody questioned and the kind of invisible scars few could fully understand. To this day nobody truly knows what her life was like with him behind closed doorsโnot even her familyโbut whatever version of herself she left as on his arm never returned with her when she came back.
Rather than retreat into mourning, though, Hira buried herself in work. Instead of focusing on what had been lost Hira focused on what remained. She helped stabilize their fractured supply lines, rebuilt relationships that had survived the destruction in New York, and quietly proved herself to be of better use in at her family's side than, god forbid, sent as a sacrificial lamb to the end of another politically convenient altar.
Truth be told, Hira would've been happy to never see the likes of NYC again, but it's never been about outrunning her demons or indulging her own desires. At the end of the day, the only thing that matters is what the family wants and, as second in command, it's now her job to make sure they get it.
โNow and again her eyes dimmed with tears, but she did not let them escape down her cheeks. She pressed her lips fiercely together and the tears seemed to retreat back inside her, as if drawn by an inner fire.โ
