Carlos and the accidental cat acquisition

“Mate! I didn’t know you got a cat!” Lando exclaims one afternoon as he proceeds to rub his fingers between El Gato’s ears and then under his chin.

“Hmm? No. That is just El Gato.” Carlos waves his hand as if it is a sufficient explanation, ignoring Lando when he splutters into a giggle.

“El Gato?” Lando repeats awkwardly, “Cat?”

“Sí, is a Cat, No?” Carlos watches as the cat stretches and then extends upwards, letting his front paws rest on Lando’s legs, as if he’s asking to be picked up.

“Yeah—course it’s a cat, but that’s not a proper name.” El Gato is now allowing Lando to lift him up and Lando catches a small silver tag between his fingers. “Mr Papaya!” Lando practically screeches in excitement, “It’s perfect! Of course you are Mr Papaya!”
