Minnesota’s Island in the Sun
For three decades, from 1961 to 1991, the Ambassador Resort Motor Hotel at the cloverleaf of Hwy 12 and Hwy 100, was an oasis for visitors to Minneapolis. With a prize winning swimming pool, Finnish saunas, a sun lamp solarium, shuffleboard, putting greens, ping-pong, a therapeutic swirlpool, and 200 “charming Italian Provincial” guest rooms, the hotel was equipped for year-round fun in the sun, just five miles west of downtown Minneapolis. The lavish Kashmiri Room Restaurant, Shalimar Cocktail Lounge, and Mandalay Piano Bar also contributed to the charm. Read more about the hotel from the St. Louis Park Historical Society.
