I think I've hit the b1 plateau recently so it feels like I haven't gotten any better. But I just encountered a french meme that I've seen before a few months ago that felt like gibberish to me. but now I can understand it perfectly fine. So It looks like I am getting better. Studying languages (at least for me) is very slow and monotonous so it's good to know that I'm not completely wasting my time.

#My problem rn is that I couldn't find any channels that I liked and could understand well enough so I haven't been “consuming content” much #I've started to drift away from social media in general

The west acts like greek culture died with ancient greece. they're still here lol. It's similar to people calling assyrian spoken today "neo-assyrian". Assyrian people still exist. Why is the ancient language being treated as the default?

Idk, I think there are some cultural misunderstandings here also. People treat the odyssey like it's the lord of the rings. The odyssey may be fictional but it is not fantasy. The average english person doesn't care for beowulf much at all but is not like that in greece, iran, armenia etc etc

One time I couldn't think of the turkish word for "janissary" cuz I was reading about the ottoman empire in english a lot. That was probably the most embarrassing thing that happened to me in recent memory. It's a fucking loanword from the turkish "yeniçeri". it sounds the fucking same. How could i have possibly forgotten it

My uncle is saying like our culture is gonna die with them and that we're always making excuses for not being able to speak zazaki. How can i learn a language if you don't speak it to me 😭? And he said "I already learnt English" First of all YOU can't even speak it as your only foreign language also I didn't see zazaki in class for 10 years now did I? There are barely any resources and it's not gonna be the same as being a native speaker.

I plan to learn it once I get french to a decent level but then my parents are gonna be like "why don't you learn an useful language?" I don't blame my parents for not teaching me. tbh the real culprit there is the turkish goverment probably but it's not like I'm gonna be able to convince my uncle of that and I don't like them saying it's my fault. It's a sore point for me. Which is why I'm complaining here
