my silver lining

what's getting on my nerves the most about the recording academy ceo's lame response (and now one of the committee members having an absolute crash out on her instagram) is that they're seemingly choosing the route of accusing everyone ELSE of being obtuse about the goal and requirements of that new category instead of just doing the noble thing and admitting that no matter WHAT their "intentions" were when creating it, they missed the mark in doing so. they absolutely refuse to say "okay, we hear you loud and clear and we're gonna reverse the decision" and instead are doubling down on it with "you're all misunderstanding us for publicity and are just doing this to make us look bad...also no one said you can't submit for general categories lol" ....as if bts didn't know that? as if THAT was their main concern? i promise you they were not confused about that, but merely decided that the academy as a whole is not worth playing games with if they're gonna repeatedly create categories out of thin air in VERY SPECIFIC timely fashions to continue marginalizing artists of color, and in this case, a whole CONTINENT of artists. it's bigger than just the general awards. it's about their entire identity. you can't just gaslight the world by telling them their perception of your actions were wrong when you're THIS outnumbered. clearly it should be a sign that something isn't right about what you're doing when this many people and outlets are backing bts up in their decision and even recalling other similar incidents because this is a PATTERN, not an isolated moment of blatant racism and unfairness. if you do something that's met with THIS much disagreement, you need to acknowledge it instead of pointing the finger back at everyone else. it's actually offensive the more they open their mouths and try to insult everyone's intelligence in this way. we all SAW right through what you were doing. own the fuck up to it.
